Kate Tsui Still Up In the Air About TVB Contract Renewal
Kate Tsui (徐子珊), who made her debut in the industry after winning the crown in the 2004 Miss Hong Kong Pageant, is unsure if she wants to renew her TVB contract when it ends at the end of the year. Currently taking a break from acting, Kate has enrolled in jewelry design classes and is looking forward to share some of her own designs in the future.
At a recent public event, Kate admitted that she is still up in the air about her TVB contract renewal. “I’ve been in discussion with the company all this time,” shared Kate. “Aside from filming movies, the company has also thought about arranging other work for me.” Asked if it was true that her TVB contract will be ending this October, Kate clarified, “It’s not in October, but it is sometime soon.”
With a love for jewelry design, Kate expressed her intentions to work in the jewelry industry in the future. She is currently unsure if she wants to continue her management under TVB or switch to a different agency.
Rumors say that Kate is upset with TVB for cutting her screen time and offering her drama productions that give her little chance to enter the TV Queen race. Kate denied, “That’s not true, but I did tell the company that I want to lessen the workload. I find filming one movie and one drama a year to be a good pace. I want to have time for other things.”

@jayne I used to be negative towards stars leaving but now I see it may do them some good. Exposure is good if not forever stagnant.

Almost every major star is leaving TVB. More money to earn in Mainland and the current stars in TVB know that the TV landscape in HK is changing soon. The other TV stations in HK are poaching them with big money, because they are needing famous leading TVB stars in their TV drama’s.
For example, a couple of days ago, I have read that HKTV Entertainment got one third of the TV spectrum of ATV, they say they can start 2 TV channels with that spectrum next year. I am guessing they are preparing for TV drama’s, so they need famous TVB actors and actresses.
Didn’t she win some new comer award for movies? Why didn’t or couldn’t she peruse that? Why did she come back for small screen? I’m just curious. I never liked her acting. She was okay when she debuted but now she’s plain annoying to me.
