Kate Tsui’s One-Second Rape Scene Disappoints Male Viewers

Prior to the broadcast of TVB drama, Highs and Lows <雷霆掃毒>, Kate Tsui’s (徐子珊) gang rape scene was widely discussed. After waiting for 22 nights, the controversial scene was finally aired this week. Male viewers expected the content to be more revealing, but to their disappointment, the gang rape scene was over in one second.

The tragic fate of Kate Tsui’s character in Highs and Lows, who encountered gang rape, later becoming a drug addict and dealer, has shocked the public since plot spoilers were revealed. The challenging role was a breakthrough for Kate, generating hot buzz for this year’s TV Queen award.

“It’s a very terrifying and pitiful situation,” Kate spoke of the gang rape scene earlier, in which veteran actor, Lee Ka Ding (李家鼎) portrayed one of the rapists.

However, the terror in the gang rape scene was over in one second. Kate was surrounded by several men in the controversial scene, who exclaimed, “When is it our turn?” before the screen blacked out and the audience was spared the visual terror. Kate was only seen crying uncontrollably in the aftermath.

Due to earlier media coverage on the rape scene, this created a sordid anticipation among Hong Kong male viewers who eagerly followed the drama. After the one-second scene failed to “deliver the goods,” male viewers felt that TVB had cheated them, angrily demanding for a more authentic rape scene.

  1. The scene with Happy and Sandy in the alleyway chasing her and Kate’s acting made me cry, i really felt for the character. I’m sure Kate has really wowed her critics with that scene, her crying and pain was real. She portrayed the character quite well. She’s improved a lot! Maybe this might win her a Favourite Character award?

  2. Why the hell are they hyping a rape scene? Disgusting and immoral.

  3. What is wrong with people now a days? They were disappointed that the rape scene didn’t display enough and wasn’t long enough??? It’s disgusting men with horrible fantasies like this that the world is such a terrible and scary place.

    1. I think is because the publicity of Kate being gang raped were highly publicised thus make the audience anticipated into the rape scene to see how good Kate was acting in such scene…. Maybe not as you thought that guys fantasizing about the rape scene and etc.. although I do believe that guys having fantasies of their idol getting “***” are more often in their minds rather than in women’s minds.

      1. If no publicity who will watch avidly? Knowing TVB I Knew it wouldn’t amount to much.

      2. it’s one thing fantasizing about your female idol but a rape scene it totally different. Rape is a very sensitive and hurtful topic and it is very traumatic to hear about it never mind see (even though it is acted out). I understand that it was highly anticipated due the the publicity it received but I think it was a more tasteful decision to keep it short and as less graphic as possible.

  4. not even final countdown was as disappointing. you dont build hype then dont deliver
