Kenneth Ma Sacrificed for Bosco Wong in TV King Race?

Kenneth Ma Sacrificed for Bosco Wong in TV King Race? thumbnail

In usual fashion, this year’s TVB Anniversary Awards is no stranger to rumors and controversy of who will ultimately awarded the TV King and TV Queen title. To create a bigger buzz around the awards, TVB is utilizing the one vote per person system.

In order to avoid the server crash fiasco during the live voting at the 2012 Miss Hong Kong pageant, TVB executive, Sandy Yu (余詠珊) explained that they will open up voting to 2 hours and announce the winner live. An insider claims, “Last time TVB only allotted 10 minutes for voting, causing the servers to crash. Yu, not wanting to lose face again, is carefully planning how to do this successfully without the embarrassment of last time. Most likely they will allow 2 hours for viewers to vote starting at the beginning of the show, so they can announce the winners at the end.”

The insider continues, “For promotional purposes, TVB is going to arrange for the top 5 contenders for the TV King and Queen award to be on stage while they announce the number of votes live. Unfortunately it can be very embarrassing for the artist with the lowest number of votes, so they are all very nervous and trying very hard to get support from their fans and relatives.”

Sources reveal that the artists with the most chances of winning are, in no particular order:

TV Queen

Kate Tsui (徐子珊)– Highs and Lows <雷霆掃毒>
Fala Chen (陳法拉)   – Queens of Diamonds and Hearts <東西宮略>

TV King

Bosco Wong (黃宗澤)– Witness Insecurity <護花危情>
Raymond Lam (林峯)– Highs and Lows <雷霆掃毒>
Wayne Lai (黎耀祥)– The Confidant <大太監>
Kevin Cheng – Ghetto Justice II  <怒火街頭 II>
Moses Chan (陳豪)– The Last Steep Ascent <天梯>

Kenneth Ma Sacrificed in TV King Race

Bosco Wong and Linda Chung’s award chances have been greatly improved due to the their drama, Witness Insecurity, topping as the number one drama in ratings year-to-date. Witness Insecurity also salvaged Bosco’s earlier negative image since breaking up with Myolie Wu earlier this year. Avoiding each other since splitting, the ex-lovers will share the stage at the TVB Anniversary Awards.

It is rumored that in order to promote Bosco Wong, TVB Executive, Virginia Lok (樂易玲) will sacrifice Kenneth Ma (馬國明) as the Top 5 in the TV King awards race. Despite 2012 being a spectacular breakout year for Kenneth with his highly rated, The Hippocratic Crush <On Call 36小時>, the 38-year-old professed he preferred cash over winning awards.

    1. TVBaddict says:

wait i thought myolie wont be at the anniversary awards this year….

      • Gar says:

She won’t be at the Anniversary Gala show.

      • nemesis says:

Triumph2 cast will only be back for the awards

      • CHOI1991 says:

That’s not true. Myolie said in an interview that she, Fala and other members who went to England and France filming the drama, will return in time to attend the award ceremony.

Also in that interview was asked if she was ready for the award, referring to the dress that she will wear.

The ceremony or anniversary that is air in November 24, in that she and the others they are not able to attend.

    2. Gar says:

Fala? Really? Are you kidding me? If this is the final top 5, I’m disappointed to see Fala instead of Michelle Yim even though I like Fala.

Looks like Kenneth will have to wait once again if this is true. I haven’t seen either The Hippocratic Crush or Witness Insecurity so I can’t say whether Kenneth or Bosco is better in their respective dramas.

    3. Yvette says:

Moses chan should be out and Kenneth Ma should be top 5…

    4. Ivy says:

      Wayne Lai will win again!!!

    5. Fox says:

I don’t think Fala will be in top 5 but her place belongs to Michelle. With The Confidant now, Michelle won’t be missed out.

Lolz, Txb really want SSSS to win something if this top 5 of female is true. But too bad for them, this SSSS is still very silent and not liked even with many promotions.

For top 5 male, I think it’s reasonable to me.

    6. miriamfanz says:

Does it matter when either will stand a chance to win against Raymond’s army of fans?

And gosh, if Fala makes it based on her role in Queen of Diamonds, TVB will officially cement its spot in the Hall of Jokes.

    7. Cassandra Loh says:

    8. starry says:

please kick fala to the curb, thanks

    9. Uni says:

First of all. Raymond lam ‘s acting has a long way to go. Moses shouldn’t even be considered. How many dramas have he starred in the last year or two? He’s too into his coffee business. Bosco Wong’s acting has improved significantly but he doesn’t’ deserve TV KING. Kevin Cheng’s acting in Ghetto Justice was mediocre. It’s not as great as the first one. I would say this year Kenneth Ma’s acting has been the best. Although he always has this “sor jai” look to him. Damian Lau and Wayne Lai should be the leading contenders. Their acting is amazing!!! It doesn’t matter how old they are but then again TVB doesn’t base awards on skills . .

      • Fox says:

What is so special with MM’s acting? He overacts sometimes and sometimes wooden. MM is just a junior (together with Bosco) to all others in the list and with his current status, being in top 5 Most Fave chac is too enough for him.

Moses has 4 series aired this year, to answer you.

        • Uni says:

why are you calling Kenneth Ma , MM ? LOL.. There’s nothing distinctive about his acting. BUT in terms of story lines and dramas , he starred in the more interesting ones. Raymond Lam is always playing the bad boy or the rich boy. Sorry it was THREE SERIES not four. LOL But all of Moses dramas flopped.

        • Fox says:

          MM = Ma Ming.

Moses has Heaven burns, 4 for love, the one with Adam Cheng and Steep, 4 series.

Lolz, wat year you are in? LF dun have any rich boy role this year. Bad boy? His role this year isnt bad boy as well. This year he has 2 roles, one is Chukot Leung who is not rich or a boy and the more famous one is Happy Sir, a laid back cop. If you even dont watch him, how can you judge his acting?

This year in my opinion, being in top 5 most fave chac is too enough for MM for his characters. He has some interesting characters but his acting is very very so so.

        • kcabc says:

Should put it like this, MM “has a long way to go” before reaching LF, Moses or KC’s current status. He’s not even at Bosco’s level yet, look at how much producers pay them and see the difference.

      • Little fishy says:

Well, MM impressed me a lot more than bosco -.- n his character in thc is better than bosco character -.- though, you could blame the silly storyline and silly ending for the reason why I think so low of WI.

Agree that the race should be between Wayne n Damien, though I think Damien should win, purely on the acting.his character is different, whereas Wayne is a little bit repeating his safe role

      • Gar says:

With Raymond’s acting, there’s still room for improvement but it’s definitely not a long way to go like you said.

      • Meiyi says:

I agree with you. It should go to Damien & Wayne regardless of age. As they really can act.As for the younger actor, I will choose Kelvin, Kenneth & Michael Miu. Actress, will be Michelle Yim, Linda Chung, Myolie & Charmaine.

    10. Bubblez says:

I kinda wished Damian Lau and Wayne Lai would be in the top 5 ! Their acting are superb over some of these contenders. But I hope Raymond Lam gets it this year :)

    11. loom says:

they should take kevin cheng out. His Ghetto Justice II was at the bottom 10 and low rated of all the other actors’ dramas. Kenneth deserves a spot up there since Hippocratic is in the top 5 dramas in ratings. if bosco can get a nomination, its unfair to Kenneth that they cut back his chance. i think maybe TVB thought Kenneth posed a real threat to Raymond cause KM’s character was a household name with the audience as well.

      • Fox says:

But MM is ranting that his series aired too sooon so ppl forgot it already. They only rmb his newer one aka SSSS and it is nothing special or cant make noises after the erotic scenes.

3K aired after THC and MM’s fans in same function for it with LF didnt make a theat to anyone.

Cutoff KC? He is last year winner and Txb still consider his money brought to Txb. If MM can bring as much money as any in top 5, maybe he will have a seat. But his current price is even lower than Ron so he shouldn’t complain much and better to establish himself to be more valuable.

        • loom says:

just go worship lam fung and stop bringing down decent actors.

        • kcabc says:

just go worship your “decent actors” and stop bringing down lam fung

        • Fox says:

Lolz, who are decent actors I’m bringing down? Can’t accept that I’m saying MM’s status isn’t tat high?

        • loom says:

what does MM’s status have to do with his acting? is that the only way you can attack him? there are decent actors that don’t polish shoes so they aren’t as highly promoted.

i didn’t say much about LF but since you ppl want to start, i should of stated the fact that TVB probably favors in his rich bg, giving him more clout and promotion. his father sits on the same board as EEG Albert Yeung on some committee, they buddied it up and hooked him up a contract.

        • Fox says:

Im saying about status of MM, you are saying about character. None of us saying about acting. Attack MM, if I like I can attack many things of him, from his AV habit to his frequency of mentioning about old ex to so so acting with some overreactions and wooden face sometimes. Or we can talk about how he often ranting and comparing with others to pull others down.

Rich background is the only thing you can attack LF? LMAO. You say I bring down decent actors, so who are they. Yes there aremany decent actors who dont polish executives, but I bring down none of them. So you failed so badly.

      • miriamfanz says:

        “KM’s character was a household name…”

Then he should be nominated for Fav Character instead of Best Actor. I don’t think his acting is that great.

      • loom says:

lol shows lam fung’s fans cant stand any competition. if someone were to speak out for kenneth, they find it a crime. what a petty minded group.

        • Fox says:

Lolz who are more petty? Cant stand competition? Oh only if there is one but there isnt so no point to stand.

    12. CL says:

Wayne Lai, Kevin Cheng and Moses might be more outstanding in acting, but they already got this award before so show that they are outstanding…i toward more to vote for the next generation. Raymond, Bosco and Kenneth are the same in team of acting…if you are Bosco’s fans, you want Bosco’s better…if you are Raymond’s fans, you think Raymond is better…if you are Kenneth’s fans, you think Kenneth is better…

      • Linnh says:

        lol actually true.

        • Linnh says:

but it is not always like that, Like last year if Bosco had been nominated for 7 days in life, then I wouldn’t have said he was the best.

        • Fox says:

Last year he has nominated with LOO. 7 days is few years ago, isnt it?

        • Linnh says:

no 7 days was a 2011 production. But it was aired early like in january. I know he was but that was an example like if we switch and say that LOO aired in January and 7 days around august/september and it was 7 days that he got nominated for, then I wouldn’t have supported him to get the best actor award. Because i didn’t find his role in 7 days to be any special.

      • Gar says:

Kevin and Moses outstanding in acting? They’re both mediocre in my opinion. Wayne is the one that is definitely outstanding.

      • Fox says:

I agree and I dont think they are in tge same team of acting. I judge acting by eye acting and that’s why I dun think Moses or KC are outstanding.

    13. ppearl says:

WHAT???? do Michelle Yim???? :x i felt Michelle was great in TC. :P

      • Funn Lim says:

Michelle? Am I the only one who doesn’t think she was great in TC? Because so far nothing for her to show her greatness? But Maggie Siu deserves some recognition.

And I do agree Power Chan may have a chance, he was seriously funny as PSS but so is every other supporting male in TC.

        • miriamfanz says:

But Michelle in TC still much, much better than Fala in Queens

        • ppearl says:

really eh? hmm…..she hasn’t has “that moment” and i am unsure if there will be any in TC but i like her delivery. the way she speaks, moves, walks, etc. very into that period of time.

i love Maggie Siu…she’s one of my fav too (like Michelle) and i actually own many series of both of these actresses (re-watched many times too). at the moment, not too many of Maggie’s scenes. but her character is taking shape as of what i watched on epi 11. and aiyah, i want CKK to like Maggie’s character but seems he likes Michelle. bleah~~~ :P

        • Funn Lim says:

So far I am not impressed with Michelle since her Cixi has yet to have anything much to do. It is Maggie that got my attention. I may not like how her empress is portrayed but she did fantastic within the context, the way she showed her concerned with prince gong, touch but not touch.. immediately knew she was in love with him. I don’t see anything great with Michelle. Give Maggie the role of Cixi and I am sure she would have shown more of Cixi’s inner turmoils and may even make me sympathise with her.

        • ppearl says:

thanks for sharing and opening another aspect of Maggie’s portrayal. i felt those moments too. ;) crap, the forbidden love is painful. :( i am enjoying the series. have not really sit down to watch fully each episode in a long time. :)

        • Soggi says:

          Yup only u think so!

    14. Linnh says:

Im dissapointed to not see Michelle Yim up thetre. I think her role in TC is not bad :P I’m happy Bosco is in the list, I was afraid his role wasen’outstanding enough so he couldn’t beat KM.

At the same time im sad that KM is not in the list, I still think his role in THC was really good.

    15. Funn Lim says:

“Sources reveal that the artists with the most chances of winning are, in no particular order:”

And that is like the entire nomination list.

    16. Funn Lim says:

“Kenneth Ma Sacrificed for Bosco Wong in TV King Race?”

Reading the title I can’t help but think somewhere in HK there is a woman named Tavia Yeung thinking to herself “Please… don’t sacrifice me…”

    17. aptos says:

Kenneth Ma is smart…take the money and run. Cash you can spend but a trophy just collects dust. Capable actors whether winning an award or not will still get good roles. Tom Cruise made a lot of money but never did win an Academy Award for acting although he was nominated for a few.

      • sandcherry says:

It is not true in Hong Kong. If you get TV King or TV Queen awards, your can “sell” yourself at a better price to any production companies, especially in China. Myolie Wu was paid a lot better in Mainland China productions after she got her TV Queen award. Moreover, those TV Queens and Kings could get better remunerations in filming their ads and performing their shows.

      • Fox says:

This trophy is 2 mil HKD. And winning it can increase the price. MM is not that non greedy to get the award. He wants it. And which money he got and go?

Tom Cruise is famous for his handsome face than acting.

      • kcabc says:

Smart? He not even has that much money to run away with, a few hundred thousands?

    18. Carlz says:

Moses chans character was nothing special… His role in master of play was even better… Why did they have to add him to the list??? I WANT KENNETH MA :(

    19. CHo says:

I would be scared if I was a nominee cuz, not winning would be soooo…awk!
you can see the difference between the votes!
      I mean, votes= popularity, right?

      • subtleness says:

a lot of ppl like maybe the housewives or ppl with no idols will vote according to acting so i dun think it is entirely popularity

I still dun think ray winning is 100% but it is time so hope he will win it cus to be very honest, the other competitors arent dat great. Oh unless michael mui but dunno if he stands a chance.. Prob not

      • Josie says:

Revealing the actual # of votes like mr. Hk contest is too cruel. They should just do a bar chart that shows “relative” % to be less embarrassing for the nominees.

      • CHo says:

@josie: Agreed, especially with the TV queen, I mean…the leading actors and actresses would be judged more on their looks and endorsement than the actually acting itself!

    20. H says:

If this is the real nominee list, I am seriously disappointed.

    21. sandcherry says:

The best actor should either be:
      1) Damian Lau (SSSS)
      2) Wayne Lai (The Confidant)
      3) Moses Chan (When Heaven Burns; Master of Play)
      4) Kenneth Ma (The Hippocratic Crush)
      5) Raymond Lam (HAL) or Bosco Wong (Witness Insecurity)

“Witness Insecurity” got the highest rating in Hong Kong because it was filmed when Hong Kong had typhoon signals – # 8 to 10 – for at least two days. People could not get out of the house, had nothing to do but just watched TVB.

      • sandcherry says:

        My typo :
        It should be

        • sandcherry says:

Sorry, have to do it again.

It was my typo. It should read

        • sandcherry says:

What happened? I have to do it again.

          It should read:

“Witness Insecurity” got the highest rating in Hong Kong because it was airing when Hong Kong had typhoon signals – # 8 to 10 – for at least two days

        • Fox says:

But WI lost signal tin some places his nite so it wasnt benefit that much. Look at 3K, it has more benefit from the typhoon and still low overall due to Olympic. Watever, 3K is still a bad series.

      • miriamfanz says:

I really doubt WI is staying at top for ratings looking at how TC is doing.

    22. sandcherry says:

It seems that Wayne Lai is the only lucky artiste who gets nominated for Best Artiste Awards, other than TVB’s top siu sangs and fadans.

Michelle Yim did not even get nominated. Her acting was not outstanding so far in “The Confidant”, but her acting surely beats the acting of every single fadan in TVB.

    23. TN1 says:

Wow! Bring it on ppl so much excitement lol

    24. E says:

:/ Okay, That is so wrong for this year 2012 TV king/Queen:

They need to take Kevin or Moses out and put in Kenneth, his acting in On Call 36 is good. I disagree with the Steed because I didn’t feel what so special about his acting there, and Kevin Ghetto II wasn’t his best. He lost his touch there.

And why in the world is Fala even in the race. And Myolie in Ghetto II wasn’t her best either, it was mellow >> Michelle or Maggie deserve that spot over her, Fala. She does not deserve it with her acting skill this year and definitely not Queens of Diamonds and Hearts O_O

      • sandcherry says:

TVB will never nominate Maggie Cheung Ho Yee this year. She is now filming for CTI, a major competitor of TVB.

        • miriamfanz says:

I think E means Maggie Shiu in TC or MOP?

        • E says:

@sandcherry I do love Maggie Cheung Ho Yee but @miriamfanz is right, I was talking about Maggie Shiu :)

While we are talking about Maggie(s), who do you think is better in acting wise. I like them both hm…

        • Funn Lim says:

Maggie Siu is better acting wise.

        • E says:

Yes, but Maggie Cheung in War and Beauty impress me versus Maggie Shiu *currently* “The Confidant.” hm…

@Funn What makes you like Maggie Siu more than Maggie Cheung? Movement, tone, eyes, action, emotion etc…??

        • Funn Lim says:

No doubt Maggie Cheung in War & Beauty was my favourite, until TVB decided to junk-asize her character by making her character a concubine.

Maggie Siu has been an actress far longer than Maggie Cheung and why I said she is a better actress is based on decades of acting credentials and consistency. Yes Maggie Siu’s way of speaking can be a tad annoying but body language wise, her eyes, her action, all speaks volumes. Maggie Cheung tends to be annoying in the way she moves, she isn’t entirely consistent. In The Confidant, I believe Maggie Siu is far better than Michelle because I see there is something with her character and the way she emotes her inner turmoil, her pain, her frustration, the way she looks, moves, talks even if I do not like where her character is heading towards.

Just a personal preference preference I suppose. I am still hoping for a maggie siu-deric wan reunion.

        • E says:

Yea the concubine part, I did’t get since I don’t see the King loving her like that.

I actually do not like Maggie Siu’s character in The Confidant (the drama is amazing), but it feel like she is just too good, the more nicer she is, the more I feel like the drama is trying to make her the good guy and Michelle the bad guy. If you get my drift.

          maggie siu-deric wan reunion.??

      • Primrose says:

I am a great fan of Maggie Siu since her early acting days in Happy Ghost! But I doubt TVB will nominate her for her role in TC as she is no longer a TVB contract artist. Even with a nomination, her chances of winning is slim. BUT, to me, she is definitely a better actress in ALL aspects than the irritating over-the-top Fala in Queen of DAH; and annoying full-of-herself Myolie in GJ2.

        • sandcherry says:

Maggie Shiu was not even on the top 10 nominees for Best Support Actress award. Shame on TVB!! How could TVB nominate Christine Kuo (“GJ2″), Eliza Sam (“Divas in Distress”) and Aimee Chan (“The Confidant”) for Best Support Actress? Christine Kuo’s acting was terrible, and Eliza Sam’s was barely acceptable. It was only her second drama series and first decent role. If she got nominated this year for Best Support Actress, she will surely get nominated for Best Actress in 2013! Aimee Chan’s role was not that heavy in “The Confidant”, why did she get nominated? Maggie Shiu (“When Heaven Burns” and “The Confidant”), Elaine Yiu (“Bottled Passion” and “King Maker”), and Selena Li (“Gloves Come Off”, and “The Confidant”) acted much better in their support roles than Aimee Chan, but they did not get in to the top 10. Shame!

Aimee Chan was not the 1st lead actress in “The Last Steep Ascent”. Why was she nominated for Best Actress award? Maggie Cheung was the 1st lead actress. She was not amazing in the series, but Aimee was only a support actress.

TVB do not make any sense these days. They don’t respect their good veterans; they only care about their newbies.

    25. Piggy says:

I’m glad Kenneth isn’t on the list. But not happy about Bosco being in there. Bosco & Moses should be replaced by Damian & Michael in my opinion.

    26. irene says:

this voting system in hongkong, do ppl need to pay for each call?

    27. Ric says:

Overreacting. Wait for the official nomination list before complaining bout who makes it to the top 5.

    28. sandcherry says:

I think Jayne would rather see our posts (than no posts) after reading her article.

We all want to keep Jayne happy!

    29. Sand says:

What… Kenneth performed so well this year leh!

And of course kenneth has to be humble and say he doesnt care for awards and will care for more cash. If he says he wants the awards pple will say he’s greedy, etc. if he doesnt get the award, he’ll be embarassed. The gratitude from getting a award
Is different from getting a pay rise.

But if he gives up his chance at a award, u think tvb is going to give him cash? No way.

      • kcabc says:

Wat so humble about “care for more cash”, it’s just another way of saying “I’m great but they don’t give the award to me so I don’t care”

    30. Roxy says:

KM will get his TV-King eventually. If you’re his crazy fan, you can wait 10+ years; he’ll probably get it by then.

    31. John says:

Awww was hoping that Kenneth Ma could get an award this year beacause of THC, he did so well!! Especially when he was crying after his brother died….Tbh i prefer KM over KC

    32. RAYLEILAFAN says:

Why not kick mediocre Kevin Cheng or Moses Chan aside and let Hui sir and Yat Kin Tou both in? TVB! I still support Ray for The King this year!

    33. VFC says:

Between Bosco and Kenneth, I would say Bosco is the more talented one. He seems to exceed and do well in almost every genre of series I’ve seen him in. Kenneth on the other hand does well in dramatic roles but he can not do comedy at all….his role in RPG was just annoying he looked like a pervert when he was smiling….no offense he just tries too hard just like Moses does in comedies, can’t watch them.

THC was a good series no doubt but is it the theme of the series that overshadowed Kenneth’s acting? I think so, his role was nothing too special sure he was pretty good I mean I think it’s the theme of the series that stood out rather than the acting itself so I don’t think Kenneth should get BA this year. Fave character probably.

I heard Kevin is nominated for GCO instead, I quite enjoyed that series and his character but not really BA material same for Bosco’s character in WI he did great but his character was just kinda ordinary, he stands a chance in fave character.

A majority of Moses’s series this year was mediocore he doesn’t deserve BA this year.

It’s either Raymond or Damien for me. I wish Michael Miu was nominated though. Wayne is too overrated he’s been playing that same righteous dramatic roles since Rosy Business nothing new from him.

    34. Catie says:

Seriously…2 Hrs??? How about those viewers who cannot vote within those 2 particular hrs..whatever TVB comes up with with their voting system, it is always plain stupid and ridulous.

“For promotional purposes, TVB is going to arrange for the top 5 contenders for the TV King and Queen award to be on stage while they announce the number of votes live…” –> WTF? Even i’d feel sorry and bad for them as the audience watching. What kind of a promotional purpose is that?!…TVB, wtf!? Never seem to disappoint people on being ridulous.

    35. Catie says:

The Best Actor list is missing Kenneth Ma. Now that has got to be bizzare. Kevin is a great actor, but his performance in G2 wasn’t as shining as it was in G1…as for Moses is good too but imo he is mainly included in the list because he is considered TVB’s ‘one/first brother’, so he has to be one of the nominated to avoid losing his face…

That’s all my opinion. I think Kenneth Ma did a good job this year with most of his roles..don’t understand why he is missing out in the race if that’s the official top 5 list.

      • Catie says:

Plus with all Kenneth Ma’s hype going on this year, wouldn’t make sense if he wasn’t at least nominated..

      • RAYLEILAFAN says:

I second you. Moses and Kevin should not be in the running with their mediocre performances this year but TVB just need to put their names to save their faces as the big brothers.

        • krcp says:

Agree. Mo & KC should be out. It’s tbb’s stubborn rule to save faces for those big brothers instead of focusing on acting. In so doing, they can’t create more big brothers in the long run, stupid!

        • RAYLEILAFAN says:

I bet Kevin and Mo will always be in top 5 no matter how mediocre they act. Always respect the #1 brothers. Let’s kick out the younger brothers to give way for seniority.

      • skinnymocha says:

“Most chances of winning”. Not the final 5 – although it’ll be pretty much the same. Who else have they got to nominate from TVB’s host of “acting talents” anyway? These same names just pop up every year.

        • RAYLEILAFAN says:

At least the TV King pool is better and has more credible choice than TV Queen where we are left to pick the least bad actress.

        • RAYLEILAFAN says:

The top 10 list that Mingpao weekly published today if true is showing that TVB is promoting Eliza Sam and Christine Kuo heavily to be the next TVB actress we should root for.

        • skinnymocha says:

I don’t get it. Eliza and Christine… Maybe in due time, they will make great improvements and therefore deserving of promotion. But right now? There’s still a lot of work to be done.

What hacks me of most: does TVB not do any market research? Or just go online and read the feedback – all at the click of a button! Are they *really* that oblivious to what the majority of TV viewers want?

        • Funn Lim says:

I watched the 3 gods comedy skit and they were both on the show and yes they cried, very emotionally fragile that Christine but I do like them both. Christine was elegant and Eliza was super cute. I suppose those translates well into screen.

    36. my2cents says:

I always felt the leading actor in WI was Paul Chun. They should have a veteran BA and have Damien, Michael Mui, Wayne Lai, Ha Yu and Paul Chun and have a BA for the younger ones. How are the younger ones able to compete with more than 25 years of acting experience?

My vote this year goes to Raymond Lam, although he is not consistent all the time with good acting, I have always felt that he is the rare one who can handle acting (in dramas) while doing other high profile things like performing in concerts and acting in movies simultaneously. Ratings and script quality aside, he amazed me with his acting in Growing Through Life and Men with No Shadows whilst performing his first concert and acting in The Pearl & Emerald and The Perfect Wedding. And I thought he did well distinctively in all of those without going crazy. I think while working on HAL he had to perform concerts as well. I don’t think Kenneth Ma is near his league in terms of capability.

      • skinnymocha says:

Whilst I do acknowledge the fact that LF is hard-working, so are a lot of other artists. LF chose to become a singer, film actor and TV actor – no one forced him to – so of course he has to put in the extra effort. Not everyone wants to pursue multiple careers (and some have the self-awareness to realise their own strengths and weaknesses).

The problem with veteran BA is that many “siu sangs” are almost at the stage of being called a veteran anyway (well, depending on how you define it); they’ve (nearly) been at TVB for a decade and some are 40+ already… Most veterans don’t need a joke of an award to consolidate their standing within the industry anyway; they’re well respected as it is.

        • my2cents says:

With due respect to the veterans I agree but when you compare them, it’s obvious there is no competition in terms of skills which is what we want to base on for BA. That’s what I meant so the award is a joke anyways.

Yeah, it’s LF’s choice but the point is he can handle it and proves his capability.

    37. Amy says:

Dear Jayne,I read on somewhere that Kevin is nominated for his performance in Gloves Comes Off instead of Ghetto Justice II?

    38. RAYLEILAFAN says:

Mingpao Weekly published the nomination list! I found the translation here:

    39. RAYLEILAFAN says:

Kenneth is safe. He is one of the top 10 finalist.

      • Fox says:

Each year there must be a top 5.

        • RAYLEILAFAN says:

Mingpao weekly also said Kenneth is almost guaranteed top 5 so I think Bosco is the one sacrificed and coincident that Mingpao also publish interview of Bosco in this same time, said he doesn’t care whether he win or lose and he has mainland plans.

Based on past years record Mingpao has a 90% accuracy track on their anniversary award infos.

        • Fox says:

Next also has some accurate infos about the winner.

Watever, I think Bosco deserves a seat in top 5 than MM because WI has higher rating than THC and Bosco is ranked higher in Txb’s eyes than MM. MM can have top 5 in Most fave chac like last year. MM will eventually win in the future as his career is sticking with Txb.

However, the Mingpao list is so unfair for Most fave female chac. Linda dun have a seat while someone has 2 seats. Such an unlimited love of Txb.

        • mito says:

don’t trust Mingpao :p, who lucky ladies has 2 slots?

        • Fox says:

looking at Sandy Yu’s response, I blv this double nomination is official.

        • RAYLEILAFAN says:

The double nomination for Tavia Yeung is quite unfair and so is the favouritism for Aimee and internet Goddesses Christine and Eliza.

    40. Hannahh says:

poor MM! TVB was never fair to begin with.

      • RAYLEILAFAN says:

No Kenneth is safe according to the full article by Mingpao. It’s Bosco who is ousted to make way for respected seniors Kevin and Mo. Rest assured your Kenneth is probably safe now.

    41. E says:

I’m more worry for Bosco than Kenneth wise :(
