Kevin Cheng Agrees to Film “Ip Man 2”; Earns $72.86 Million This Year

Despite his lack of martial arts background and painful eye injury on the set of Ip Man <葉問>, Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) has signed on to film a sequel to the mainland TV drama.

Earning $500,000 RMB per episode, Kevin will be filming Ip Man 2  for three months in mainland China. The 30-episode drama will put $15 million RMB in Kevin’s pocket. Although Ip Man has just completed filming and has not been aired yet, investors wanted Kevin to film the sequel, even increasing his previous fee of $350,000 RMB per episode. “Compared to TVB’s fee of $10,000 HKD, there is no comparison,” an inside source revealed.

Since shooting Ip Man in August, Kevin’s painful and strenuous filming process was well chronicled. Yet, Kevin will not turn the opportunity to film the sequel away, risking possible injuries once again. “Kevin understands that he cannot be an actor for the rest of his life, so he will take advantage of the financial opportunities in the next few years to earn more money and plan for his future,” an insider revealed.

Kevin’s commercial value in mainland China continues to soar. He reportedly filmed a mainland commercial for $12 million RMB. He also agreed to appear in 9 promotional events in mainland. Factoring in his filming income from mainland and TVB dramas, his endorsement deals, promotional appearances, and stage performances, Kevin earned $72.86 million HKD this year.

With his new found wealth, Kevin realized his long-time dream of opening his own production studio and becoming a property owner. In August, Kevin purchased two condo apartments for $10.8 million HKD at the Park Ave residential buildings in Tai Kok Tsui. One apartment is for his mother and one for his sister, showing Kevin’s generosity towards his family.

  1. Astounding piece of news. Kevin must have performed well enough for the producers to want him to do the sequal. Glad for him.

  2. ” “Compared to TVB’s fee of $10,000 HKD, there is no comparison,” an inside source revealed.”

really? lol….of course there is no comparison!!!

  3. Hmmm. It hasn’t even aired yet and they have already secured him for a sequel. Smart of them if it’s successful. Less so if it’s not… And how is he going to film BBJX 2 will all these engagements?!! No Nicky and no Kevin. Might as well not do it then.

    1. No Nicky or Kevin for BBJX-2? This cannot be as producers already confirmed it months ago that these boys will be in it and filming to start end of the year. Since IM wrapped, KC (like Nicky) could take a short break before commencing.

      1. There are 100s of actors like Wayne’s calibre in mainland, and better looking. Wayne don’t stand a chance.

      2. actually if you remebered from before, wayne lai said that he wanted to stay in HK with his family

    1. Wayne Lai is definitely a better actor, but he lacks the physical presence that Kevin has. Wayne’s pushing 50 and he’s rarely done action scenes…do you think he would start training in Wing Chun at age 48? :/

      1. FYI, he is less than five years older than Kevin Cheng. What’s the big deal?

Besides, it’s all an act and not the real stuff.

      2. there a certain roles that suit wayne better and certain roles that suit kevin better

  4. Oh, there’s already a sequel planned! Great news for Kevin, I think his hard work all these years have finally paid off 🙂 Love the fact that he’s sharing all his wealth with his family too.

  5. So happy for him. This show others not to look down on anyone. The best is yet to come. Those lean years seemed his ex- girl friend’s Dad thought he would never mount to anything. ….! Belittled him?

Now he mount to something, wonderful for him. Cheers, more cheers! Keep going to bigger & better things, Kevin.

  6. Wow!! Kevin is earning so much. As much as I like Kevin but I still felt his acting is mediocre. But who cares, he’s the most good looking guy in TVB
