Kevin Cheng, Stephen Wong Nominated for China TV Golden Eagle Awards

Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) and Stephen Wong (黃嘉樂) are among the few Hong Kong actors who are contending for Best Actor at this year’s China TV Golden Eagle Awards, the nation’s largest annual awards for television achievements.

On July 15, the 27th China TV Golden Eagle Awards opened their second round of audience voting to vote for Best Actor and Actress. The voting period ends August 14.

“There are many actors and dramas in mainland China, so competition is tough. I’m already very happy to be nominated,” said Kevin, who is currently filming the TVB drama Eye in the Sky <天眼> with Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) and Tavia Yeung (楊怡). In regards to his good friend Stephen Wong, who is also in the nomination list for Best Actor for television series Mazu <媽祖>, Kevin expressed that he is very happy for him and hopes to see more Hong Kong artistes achieve good results in mainland China.

Stephen said it is an honor to be nominated with his “older brother” Kevin, saying, “There are many actors in China after all. To be able to be nominated among so many is a huge encouragement for me.”

Kevin Cheng Denies Slanderous Reports

Yesterday, Kevin Cheng went to a busy outside location to film an action scene for his upcoming TVB drama, Eye in the Sky. Having to ride a motorcycle to chase after a criminal, Kevin revealed that since he does not own a motorcycle license; most of the action scenes were done by his stunt double.

Kevin revealed that he considered getting a motorcycle license when he was younger, but his mother rejected the idea. “She told me that if I did get one, she would end our mother-son relationship! I still don’t have one to this day. I do regret it.”

A tabloid magazine claimed that Kevin may have a romantic relationship with his younger cousin. Kevin is furious with the reports and said he that he may sue the magazine. “Those who eat salted fish must put with the thirst. As artistes, we should bear the consequences of our own choices, but do not involve my family. This has pushed my limit. It is not necessary for my family to suffer such slander, especially when it comes to something as sensitive as this. It is absolute nonsense. I will definitely take action and discuss this with my lawyers.”

  1. Kevin acted in quite a number of tv series in China in 2012 and 2013 and I do hope he gets some award at the China Eagle Awards this year. As he said, to have been nominated for the awards was itself quite an honour. Hope for the best for him!

  2. wowww, Stephen Wong from TVB is nominated for Best Actor?? didn’t know he was that good

  3. Wtf?!?! Why the hell would the magazine write that?!?!

  4. Who on earth is Stephen Wong? The one who acted as Ruco’s half brother in BK or more recently as the secret lover of Hau Yee in SIAC? If that’s him, he can act??? I’ll eat my hat!

      1. Thx, ping0, but this guy can’t act! Can he?? Most forums i visited have the same negative comments about his acting. I mean to be up there with KC just doesn’t sound right, not that KC is a great actor by a long shot but at least he’s been around for years and as leading man. Who’s Stephen Wong compared to him? What a farce!

      2. He is okay. He is not a bad actor, hes not the best, but hes not bad. He has this pity look all the time.

      3. “He has this pity look all the time”
then that surely makes him a bad actor if he’s a one-trick pony!Maybe he’ll go the way of Hawick Lau, a nobody in TVB to popular mainland actor. To me, his acting is bleh!No charisma, no talent.

  5. Stephen Wong has suddenly come up like a dark horse with his being nominated for the awards. Actually I had to make sure that it was the same Stephen Wong I was thinking of. He must have made his mark in China!

    1. He was in Mazu with Liu Tao. I actually wish he end up with Mazu, but of course it will not happened since she was going to become a god. LOL

  6. I must admit that I had no idea who the nominated Stephen Wong was.
But since then I downloaded and watched a few episodes of Mazu and I’m quite surprised that he is nominated for Best Actor.
IMO there are far better actors who do deserve a nomination.

  7. The competition isn’t all that fierce if Stephen Wong get nominated too. His acting is so-so, far from a BA level and definitely much behind Kevin. Even though Kevin isn’t the best either, but he’s much better actor than Stephen. For them to be nominated in the same category is a slap in the face for Kevin in my opinion.

  8. Kevin looks like he just finished blowing his nose in that picture

  9. Is it me or is Kevin looking a bit tired, aged and gaunt here?

    1. Dude, Kevin Cheng has been working his ass off these past years. He had at least 3 drama productions in China last year, which is extremely exhausting. If he looks tired, it does not surprise me.
