Kris Wu Shaves His Head for Stephen Chow’s “Conquering the Demons 2”

Hong Kong filmmakers Stephen Chow (周星馳) and Tsui Hark (徐克) are joining hands again to make the second part of the fantasy blockbuster Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons <西遊·降魔篇>, which broke box office records when it was first released in 2013.

Conquering the Demons 2 <西遊·伏妖篇>, which is slated for a release on Chinese New Year (January 28, 2017), boasts a younger cast featuring Kris Wu (吳亦凡) as Tang Sanzang and Lin Gengxin (林更新) as Sun Wukong. Chinese actress Yao Chen (姚晨) and retired Chinese basketball player Mengke Bateer (巴特爾) costar.

Former EXO member Kris had to forgo his visuals and go for a “virgin shave”—to play Tang Sanzang, a monk, Kris had to go bald. Even Kris said he couldn’t recognize himself after getting his hair cut!

Conquering the Demons 2 will be a sequel to Stephen and Tsui Hark’s 2013 film, which starred Shu Qi (舒淇) and Wen Zhang (文章). Tsui Hark introduced, “This film is about a tamer [Tang Sanzang] and his journey with a few killers [his disciples].”

True to the original story, Tang Sangzang will be thrusted into many dangerous situations that require his disciples to save him in the film. Stephen Chow ensured that Tang Sanzang won’t be as useless as he looks, saying, “His disciples are all strange monsters, so Tang is actually a pro-manager!”

On his role, Kris said, “The Tang Sanzang in this film will be different from the past. There are many sides to him.” Lin Gengxin, who portrays Sun Wukong, remarked his character’s unique appearances and said, “The director changed my appearances a lot. I’m surprised at how they all turned out.”

  1. I’m happy there’s part 2 but i love the original as in part 1’s Sun Wukong and the monk. Why change?

And this wukong may be too tall!

  2. Wow, looks like they are recruiting for a basketball team as all these guys are more than 182 cm tall and under 30.

I guess they get tire of casting the same old short middle-aged guys prancing around like they are still 18. LOL!
