Recently divorced, Leon Lai (黎明) is rumored to be dating long-time friend, Maggie Cheung (張曼玉). The two lonely souls found comfort in each other since Maggie also broke up with her German boyfriend recently.
Leon’s feelings for Maggie may go back as far as 16 years ago. In 1996, it was reported that romance had sparked between the two after collaborating in Comrades: Almost a Love Story <甜蜜蜜>.
As the spokesperson for UNICEF, Leon reunited with Maggie at a recent charity event. The two hugged and chatted constantly during the event. After their reunion, Leon and Maggie were seen having frequent dinner dates together. Recovering from their recent breakups, Leon and Maggie reportedly sought comfort in each other, sparking rumors of a sunset romance.
Maggie’s Influence on Leon
While filming Comrades: Almost a Love Story, Leon was reported to have developed special feelings for Maggie. He had a habit of writing down notes of his filming experience and costars in his personal diary. Leon greatly enjoyed working with Maggie and happily jotted down his heartfelt thoughts about her. In his notes, Leon often praised Maggie and mentioned he truly admired her brilliant acting skills.
Excerpts of Leon’s diary were recently leaked to the media; they described his time spent with Maggie while filming in New York 16 years ago. Many of the outdoor scenes involved only Maggie, but Leon would wait for her after filming his parts. They would often meet after work.
Leon recalled one special dinner date with Maggie and her assistant at a restaurant. During dinner, he and Maggie had a great time chatting nonstop and they got to know each other very well. Afterwards, Leon wrote about his feelings towards her, “Maggie is so intelligent and cultural as she has watched many plays and musicals. We both have many of topics to talk about. I would get so excited during our discussion about our favorite musical, Phantom of the Opera.”
While in New York, Maggie told Leon, “You must not have many friends, as a lot of people said bad things about you behind your back. They said you make people feel uncomfortable. Why are you not willing to communicate with others?” Leon shared the incident and credits Maggie for his subsequent personality change.
Not many people in the entertainment circle had wanted to have a close relationship with Leon in the past, as he kept himself very closeted. But suddenly Leon was seen dining with quite a few celebrities including Faye Wong (王菲) and Carina Lau (劉嘉玲). Leon was a changed man after filming with Maggie as he became more genuine and easy going. Her comments greatly influenced Leon to change his attitude towards people. He mentioned that Maggie had taught him to open up to others and he is now a much happier person.
A Rekindled Flame?
After many years of being apart and living separate lives, Leon and Maggie’ s romance is reported to be rekindling. With Maggie’s passion for music, Leon is reportedly planning to produce a song exclusively for her to sing and even offered to be her personal singing instructor. He is also planning to feature the song on his record company, A Music’s online apps for the fans to download.
Leon is reportedly trying very hard to prove his love for Maggie as he even followed her to Shanghai to stay by her side while she was working. Recently the two were seen dating in Hong Kong and Shanghai, appearing to be in the middle of a hot romance.
Leon’s Manager’s Response
Regarding Leon and Maggie engaged in a sunset romance, Leon’s manager responded, “Regarding such ridiculous news, we will respond.” Leon’s manager claimed that Leon greeted Maggie warmly at the UNICEF charity event, but hasnot remained in contact since.

actually, i hardly watch HK movies i am not into their series n not much for the movies. i did watch this movie and i thought it was really well done. they look good together, good if they are rekindling their romance haha..why not, both single and maggie should really stop dating all those foreigners since it seems not much luck in that dept for her haha lol..

everybody thinks differently, my opinion is better for leon to go back to his wife’s side and maggie to return to her hubby if he and current wife not getting along, God mentioned that we should only get married once, the rest are adultery, who am i to go against nature and God

Thanks for the info Kidd… Ok, no wonder those “catholics” always tell me that they cannot divorce, but yet I have seen some that do. If things just don’t work out, you have to since what is the point of staying together if it isn’t working out??? I feel that it should be a personal choice rather than allowing any religion to make the choice of whether you should divorce or not.

better to stay as mutual friends, after parting become enermies, waste of time and energy, leon has a lot of girlfriends in line, may cheat on maggie (that’s why shu qi left him), don’t think maggie would like that, end up losing a friend
