Li Bingbing Partners with Stan Lee to Become First Chinese Superheroine
Mainland Chinese actress Li Bingbing (李冰冰) will star as China’s first superheroine in Stan Lee’s upcoming film, Realm <虎影俠>.
Though details are still under wraps, Realm is based on an original idea by Stan Lee and will feature Li Bingbing as a superheroine. In addition to starring, Bingbing will serve as the movie’s executive producer. She also participated in the creative process, having met with the screenwriter and production team over the past year.
“What a kick it has been to create our first Chinese female superhero, and an empowering one at that,” remarked Lee. “It has been such a fun experience bringing to life an international woman character, and the ability to do so has been different from anything we’ve ever done! I am thoroughly enjoying every minute of it.”
Realm will be a joint production between Stan Lee Global Entertainment and the mainland Chinese production-distribution company Fundamental Films. It will be Bingbing’s first time working with Marvel Comics, though not her first foray into Hollywood; she previously appeared in Resident Evil: Retribution and Transformers: Age of Extinction.
For Bingbing, the idea of portraying a Chinese superheroine was one of the things that attracted her to the project, and she hopes that everyone will be able to enjoy the film soon. Although the movie’s synopsis has not yet been released, it can be inferred that the film will somehow be related to tigers, judging from the Chinese title, which translates to “Hero/Heroine of the Tiger’s Shadow.”

Wow, it’s quite an achievement to be able to work with the creator of Superman, Iron Man and tonnes of other superheroes.
Not a fan of LBB, but, I have to admit it’s quite an achievement to have a superheroine character tailor-made for you by the master.
@kidd Stan Lee did NOT create superman. Thats easily checked and verified.
He created a tremendous amount of heroes, but not superman.
@ogresound You may not believe me and think that I said this just to save face or deny my mistake. But, I actually meant to type Spiderman, not Superman. I was thinking of Spiderman, but, don’t know why it came out as Superman.
I know Stan Lee did not create Superman.

I guess the first Chinese superhero was the Green Hornet’s sidekick Kato, played first by Bruce Lee in the TV version and then by Jay Chou in the movie version.
Superman is part of DC Comics, not Marvel Comics which has been bought by Disney.
@aiya Well, Kato was supposed to be Japanese, then changed to Korean and later became Philipino. He was never chinese even though he was played by Chinese actors in all screen adaptations.
But then, it still isn’t true that this superheroine LBB and Stan Lee created is the first Chinese superhero or first Chinese female superhero, unless she meant first Chinese female superhero created by China (the country). There has been other female superheros of Chinese descent before her. The first that comes to my mind is Jubilee from X-Men.
@kidd Ah, so true! I wonder why they don’t give her Jubilee instead creating a new unknown heroine. Copyright issue?
Anyways, just based on the alias Realm, it sounds familiar with the one she played in X-men DoFP Blink, where she had teleportation ability, teleport through the “realms” within a “blink” of an eye ;p
@jjwong You are mistaken. The one who played Blink is the other Bing Bing i.e. Fan Bing Bing. 😀
As for Jubilee, it could be copyright issue. Her character in film belongs to the company who produced X-Men. I remember reading the copyright issue with the Quicksilver character onscreen sometime back since Avengers and X-Men are produced by different companies.
@kidd Ah okay. Didn’t know there’s 2 Bing Bing. It’s weird that the other one played Blink since the character isn’t even Asian. Guess China investment, China gets to put at least 1 person in the movie. Lol.

I check the wikipedia page of X-Men: Days of Future Past. I didn’t mention any Chinese company investment. But then, 20th Century Fox has been investing in Chinese/HK production lately. Maybe it’s 20th Century Fox’s idea, or maybe the director Bryan Singer just like FBB very much.

FBB said she has signed a 5 X-men movie movie contract with 20th Century Fox. So, we will definitely see more of Blink in the future. I’m happy for it. I like the special effect for Blink’s power in the movie and would like to see more of it. 🙂
