Linda Chung’s Daughter Greets Everyone for CNY
Happy mother Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣), who just spent her Lunar New Year in Vancouver, shared some pictures of her daughter on social media while wishing her fans a happy year of the dog.
The 33-year-old TVB actress, who is married to non-celebrity Jeremy Leung, shared two pictures of her 1-year-old daughter Kelly wearing different traditional cheongsams. Linda wrote in Kelly’s voice, “Happy belated Chinese New [Years] to everyone. It’s the second day of the Lunar year here in Vancouver. To all uncles and aunties: I wish you great health, success, happiness, and peace!”
It has been a while since Linda shared a full portrait of Kelly, and many fans are leaving comments expressing that the baby girl has grown, and will grow into a beautiful girl like her mother.

I’m not sure if you was here at the time but I was the biggest battlers against the likes of freedalas and others who have since left the forum and there are plenty of people who have witnessed it. I have not supported killer at all nor I’m ‘killer’. I have agreed with him that celebrities are in it for money but many have also agreed. If I have offended you that I don’t think Ruco has done well lately then I can’t help it because I really don’t think he has done well lately and because I’m a Male I won’t be influenced by his appearance. I’m still a fan of a few of his earlier series and have rewatched them. I may not like to take sides with other members and speak my view bluntly at times which may not be to everyones taste. Just because I don’t ‘agree’ with all your comments does not mean I’m an enabler or one of the mentioned trolls. I have had many agreements and also disagreements in certain articles with loyal members but they have been fine afterwards because not everyone have the same views and we understand. If you want to get personal then at least back it up with some facts. At least do some homework and look back at my chat history for the last few years or find IP linking the others. Just looking back at our chat history last time i disagreed when you said we are better looking than 90%+ of celebrities and you wasn’t happy with it. To be honest I reply always based on articles and people’s comment. Couldn’t remember it was you. If you like to hold grudges and be filled with paranoia that the person is a troll everytime someone disagrees with you then you will have a tough time in these forums.

It isn’t so bad if it is a one-off but if we keep impersonating in posts then even if the troll does not come back we will be forever be reminded of these ridiculous troll comments. There are already too much of these copy and paste comments from ‘killer’ and ridiculing roleplays lately on this forum. Would be nice if we can go back to discussing articles and how celebrities are performing like we used to….

Yeh. It’s good that less have replied to ‘killer’ recently. Had to hold myself back too. Think eventually his/her comments will die out as we stop replying. Impersonating the likes of ‘killer’, ‘creditor’, ‘Grace Chan, Phoebe etr can be amusing once in a while but gets annoying if constant. If we keep praising the impersonator then she will keep posting new ones. and we will get flooded with posts with similar language to what the trolls usually post. I prefer if we start discussing current series and performances again but that’s my opinion..

Frankly when I read this, and it was first para of the first comment, I was taken aback. Because I was shocked at how mean it was until I read the 2nd para and who posted it and then I realised it was a joke. Sarcasm. I don’t think it was mean spirited sort of sarcasm tho it will take a few moments to realise what it actually was. Take it as it is. No big deal.
Anyway saw this little girl’s pictures in instagram since I follow Linda and I was struck at how serious and yet cute she was. Very cute little girl. And for the naysayers, no she doesn’t look like philip. She has the skin tone of her father. Surely philip’s jaw would have been a dominant feature.

Baby Kelly is so adorable…looks like her daddy and beautiful like her mommy. I hope the false accusations about who is Kelly’s real father would stop because the baby definitely looks like her father; Jeremy Leung.
While i do find @bubbletea impersonating the troll was amusing, but i do agree with @jimmyszeto to certain point that we should not bring up the troll’s comments as it is really disrespectful to Linda’s family. Furthermore, the baby is innocent.
Perhaps a better way to stop the troll from keep posting his/her repetitive bad comments is to ignore him/her at all & he/she will eventually stop when there is no more fun for him/her because nobody is responding anymore.

….I agree. Although it has been hard, I have ignored the troll in the passed week. It seems that on average, ‘killer’ gets the most replies and he/she loves the attention. If we all stop replying, hopefully it gets bored and disappears.

You and others just jumped on me for no reason. I was just hoping to sarcastically shut up the troll before it started. That is why others here were in support of what I said. They are not being mean to Kelly, neither am I. These members were very defensive towards Linda and her family. The thing is, the troll has so many accounts here with so many personalities that it is sickly amazing. I never saw you or any of my other crucifiers when that person was ripping Linda, Jeremy and Kelly apart. I, who support them, got your misguided wrath. How crazy is that, lol,lol,lol. My approach is same to replying to articles and comments. I just base it on the content of each post and not who writes it. This has led to upsetting certain members in the last few years, a few epic battles but most of the time it’s just harmless disagreements/agreements but then forget about it.

Linda has had a solid career in that she has played the main lead in every series. Linda does not have a real piece of representative work that viewers will remember her by for the next few decades but not many others have either. TVB has treated her well, allowing her to sing many theme songs as well because she is obviously a good girl. Linda left to start her family at the perfect time since she was approaching an age where she may have to stop playing the young good girl role. Her big opportunity to take her career to the next level was Tiger Cubs II but it did not work out. In my opinion her best work was in ‘A Journey Called Life’.

I’ll give her credit that she’s had a solid career at TVB as they’ve given her many opportunities – rightfully so or not.
I know her personally, so the way she handles herself with the media and her fans is how she acts in person (real life).
She’s also the people-pleasing type, so I am not surprised at all that she’s been very liked by TVB management, so they’ve given her endless opportunities in the past, and through these opportunities, she’s built a solid career that many others (with just as much, if not, more talent than her) never had.
Talent-wise, I think she’s an average actor at best, but simply lucked out because of her people-pleasing personality.
She would’ve never made it with her acting skills in Mainland.

Image is very important in Hong Kong. Linda came into the industry as a blank piece of paper, still relying on her parents. Some might call Linda boring but timing is key in every profession.There was a void at the time for the good girl next door type which she filled. In the end she has made a bit of money and will continue to do so from advertisements. As far as where acting is concerned, she will be forgotten in a few years if not already.
@anon I personally find Linda (along with Tavia) the best actor out of the 5 fadans, just that as @jimmyszeto said, she has no real piece of representative work. I also thought her best role to date was in ‘A Journey Called Life’ but neither she nor the series got the recognition I reckon they deserved.

It’s tough to decide if it is a representative work as most actor/actresses if fortunate will have one or two great roles in their long careers. It’s quite normal to have none. It is borderline for Linda whether ‘A Journey Called Life’ was a representative role because the series didn’t turn out successful enough. It would take hardcore TVB fans to remember it well which we all are on this forum. A Journey Called Life was good but it was broadcasted in an earlier in the year slot which is always a big disadvantage. It also got messy in the final few episodes with the coincidental accidents and the miscarriages. Another case of TVB trying to fit too much action in a few episodes. As for the 5 lead actresses, I find Linda to be the weakest and least versatile. I might get blasted for this but I found Kate to have improved to the best level before they left. Here are my current rankings: 1. Kate 2. Fala 3. Tavia 4 Myolie 5 Linda
However I think the rankings in 10 years time will be different due to Fala’s ambition and education, Myolie and Tavia’s limitations and potential retirements

@jimmyszeto Ok, I gotta disagree about Myolie. I think she has the ambition, but no talent to back it up. Her acting is cringy to the max. I’ve never liked her. Even her ex, Bosco, once stated that she’s like the odd-ball out because she doesn’t have the persona to fit into any archetype. I would put her “talent” at the lowest.
Career-wise, however, then I don’t disagree with your rankings, but then Myolie should be right below Fala. Kate’s not really trying hard right now. Tavia/Linda are pretty much retired. So it should be Fala, Myolie, Kate, Tavia & Linda.

I agree Myolie has no talent which is why i ranked her ‘2nd last’ now but will be ahead of Tavia once all careers end due to her ambition. ‘No Reserve’ is a great example of how terrible Myolie’s acting can be, Kate has proven to have talent when she won ‘Best Movie Newcomer’ for ‘Eye in the Sky’. It was a great performance and was critically acclaimed. In Kate’s last few series before she left TVB, her performances were maturing and she was becoming the most solid actress. She is the only one of the ‘5 Female leads’ who can possibly achieve a better career than Fala in the future. As for Tavia, even if she continued her career I think she had already reached her peak. Should let her husband to target becoming a major player in the TV Series and Movies industry and retire comfortably…

@jimmyszeto myolie only has the desire, and I doubt it’s because she loves acting. she’s a workaholic by nature. so she loves to work. whether it’s doing acting or something else, that’s all she’s aiming for – money and work. there’s no talent whatsoever.
linda, on the other hand, might not have the desire and her talent is hit or miss, but at least on the talent scale, she is higher than myolie.

In TVB’s time, my personal rankings were quite similar to yours, but in this order:
1) Fala Chen (esp. for an actress who could not speak Cantonese when she first joined TVB. She needed to work a lot harder to overcome this obstacle before she could concentrate on her acting.)
2) Kate Tsui (She could have done better if she didn’t focus too much on her look, such as wearing thick fake eye-lashes and high-heeled shoes in some of her roles as police officers).
3) Tavia Yeung (she had improved, but not much talent ….. at least she got rid of her lazy intonations in her early days of acting)
4) Myolie Wu (she worked very hard, but no talents)
5) Linda Chung (she worked hard, but no talents, plus her voice is too soft for roles with strong personalities.)
Final future career rankings 1. Fala 2. Kate 3. Myolie 4. Tavia 5. Linda …………… I tend to agree with you in this order.

I must admit I really disliked Fala a few years ago. I perceived her as being arrogant probably because of negative rumours of her personality plus she had appeared in many serious character roles which aren’t as viewer friendly as the others. Although she struggled in Triumph in the Skies II due to the contrasting personalities of her character and her own personality, we can see her that she put in a lot of effort to overcome this. I have no doubt once Fala returns, she will be comfortable in playing roles in any genre.

I did not like Fala Chen at all, except her pretty face, in her early acting days.
1) I could not stand her speaking Cantonese with strong Mandarin accents.
2) She had too many rumours about her love life and her “unpleasant” personality and relationship with her colleagues.
I started liking her in “Moonlight Resonance (溏心風暴之家好月圓) when she acted Ah Hing (a mute girl), then in “No Regrets” as Lau Ching, and “Can’t Buy Me Love” as Szeto Ngan-Ping (the Princess’ maid). Those were all different characters and she handled them quite well, esp. Lau Ching (she won the Best Female Supporting Award). She almost got rid of her all heavy Mandarin accents. I was quite impressed by her hard work and efforts to achieve it, and still could handle those different characters well. I began to like and think more highly of her.
I know a lot of people did not like her in “Triumph in the Sky II”. Besides her poor cry scenes, I think she handled her “Holiday” character quite well.
You are right. Acting is Fala’s passion and determination. During the prime time in her acting career, she quit and went on to pursue a 4-year Master of Fine Arts in Drama (MFA) Program at Juilliard School to better herself as a professional artiste after her long TVB Contract ended. 4-year is not a short period of time for a female artiste when she is already in her early 30s.

I beg to differ, I thought her best work was in her earlier career and her representative work is A Journey Called Life before acting became too much of a chore for her and that was when she de-prove instead of improve. Everytime I thought how awful she became I will remember her performance in that series and I sorta forgive her until I had to watch her act. That was her best work.

I feel like Linda can do any role tossed at her. HOWEVER, she cannot excel in many of them. She does a satisfactory job, but you can tell she lost that passion a while ago or maybe lost interest because of how cumbersome her schedule/life is. Same with Raymond. I don’t think Linda ever had the passion for acting. She was definitely reliable and obeyed orders. I agree that many have lost their passion for acting and the main reason I feel is that acting is not essential once reaching a certain level of fame. Money can be made easily in advertisements, attending events, reality shows etr. The hunger for improving in acting skills will have gone. In the past there weren’t as many platforms to earn easily so all actors/actresses could do were keep on filming. The celebrities who have not achieved fame will be the more motivated individuals since they still need to earn a better living. There are some exceptions who are really passionate about the industry. Those can push on to become movie stars, multiple award winners and potentially become producers/directors…

but with how grueling TVB is and the way they keep exhausting their employees to play boring, typecasted characters with limited growth potential, who wouldn’t lose the passion for acting even if they love it?
the greenleafs who have way more time on their hands to hone their skills and are less pressured by zillions of jobs at the same time, do way better. I wouldn’t call them passionate at acting, but you can tell they’re definitely professionals and if their ages can be rewinded, will give most of the fadans a run for their money.

Yes. Everyone is worn out to a certain extent. The ones that have certainly suffered most are Tavia and Linda since they just took one role after another at TVB. It was difficult to for viewers to differentiate one character from the next since they were typecast. Neither took many breaks by filming in China nor took parts in many movies. Now they can deservedly relax and film advertisements occasionally. For Raymond he wanted recognition with an award and when he knew that he would never reach the levels of Wayne Lai, he just gave up.

There are very few actors/actresses out there who are truly passionate about their craft and are in it to fulfill their love of acting – most celebs are in it for the fame and money and once that has been achieved, they are no longer motivated to keep at something that they were never passionate about in the first place. With that said though, it’s hard to completely blame the actors/actresses for lacking passion about their craft and chasing fame/fortune because to some extent, the HK entertainment industry was designed that way – a lot of times the environment dictates the direction that the industry goes and HK is one of the biggest examples of that. In HK, there technically is no such thing as being an “actor” or an “actress” – the proper term is actually “entertainer” because that’s really what the expectation is: purely acting will get you nowhere in the industry – you have to know how to sing, host, attend functions and shows, talk and interact with people, and in many cases be familiar with behind-the-scenes stuff too…basically, all around “entertain” audiences…the more “stuff” you dabble in (whether TV, movies, music, radio, behind-the-scenes production, writing a book, etc.) , the more “well-rounded” you are as an entertainer and the more likely you will gain success and recognition….it doesn’t matter if you aren’t any “good” at what you dabble in or that you don’t even “like” it – it’s really more about getting your name out there and then once you’ve achieved the recognition, then scale back. That’s how the industry operates and so the ones who don’t follow this “model” (i.e.: the ones in it for the long haul due to passion for their craft) are generally the exceptions rather than the norm…

There are a few exceptions who have stuck to their principles for different reasons and have not let the industry dictate their path. To name a few-
Wong He- Never acted in more than a couple of series a year whilst at TVB. Was outspoken and never afraid to upset others if he felt that he was right. He let his career suffer as a result.
Kwong Wa- Left the industry when he was still at his peak of his career. Missed out years in income and rejected every opportunity of a comeback.
Fala Chen- Is still in high demand but rather than earning easy money, she still chose to take time out to become more educated and improve her skills.
Gordon Lam- He is an opportunist when it comes to finding opportunities to impress to further his career but is not in it only for money. Refuses to film in China although very lucrative and rather work his way up in the movie industry. Takes on projects as producer although much more work needed in comparison to the pay.

That’s the other thing too – a lot of times those who do stick to their principles or are doing it out of passion for their craft rather than money or fame get “criticized” and labeled as “difficult” or “hard-headed” or “disobedient” or are “shot down” for various reasons, so it’s not hard to understand why so many of these artists would feel discouraged and/or lose the passion for their craft if they had it in the first place. Out of the ones you mentioned, Wong He is a good example – he took his job seriously and was always very particular about his work, his acting, etc., also very firm in his beliefs/principles, etc. but because he doesn’t give a hoot what others think and doesn’t have a problem vocalizing his concerns when he knows he’s right (i.e. letting scriptwriter know that their dialogue doesn’t make sense and requesting rewrite; directly criticizing TVB management for their obvious bias and favoritism, etc.), he’s labeled as “difficult to work with,” “too high-strung,” “too serious,” “hard-headed,” etc. etc. and pretty much cost him his career.
I honestly feel that artists who are still able to keep the passion for their craft going after so many years, especially in an environment like HK entertainment industry, are a rare breed. A little off-topic but technically related — I actually just got back from Jacky Cheung’s concert in Las Vegas (which was AWESOME by the way) and had a really interesting discussion with a friend who also saw the concert – from the singing to the dancing to the stage effects, it was obvious that Jacky put his heart and soul into his performance and as always, he put extra effort into ensuring all audiences got a truly high quality concert experience (I mean, that 4-sided stage alone took weeks to ship over here and God knows how many days to put together)….my friend said that with Jacky’s stature (not just in HK but also internationally) plus the fact that he already has enough fame and fortune to last several lifetimes, why doesn’t he just make his life easier by doing what most of the other HK singers do (lip sync, use teleprompter, use whatever stage the venue gives them, pretty much just give a performance that meets all the basic requirements)…instead, he puts 200% effort into his performance despite being sick and also jetlagged, sings every single song in its original key despite being out of breath after having done an intense 15 minute dance routine, gets upset at himself when he goes off-key one time on one song, brings his crew, stage, dancers, musicians, etc. all the way from HK and spends painstaking amount of time preparing, rehearsing, etc…(list goes on and on). Yes, it’s Jacky’s excellent work ethic for one but the biggest reason is his passion for his craft which pushes him to set high standards for himself and his music and always strives to maintain (even exceed) those standards even when he no longer has to. Of course, Jacky is a rare exception and probably beyond comparison in many ways, plus we’re discussing acting rather than singing, but to me, the underlying argument is relevant and applicable across disciplines. The late Wong Ka Kui (80s band Beyond’s lead singer/songwriter) said it best back when he criticized the HK entertainment industry, that “in Hong Kong, there is no music industry, there is only entertainment (showbiz).” Same can be said about the television/movie industries and acting – very few people/ companies/ organizations are concerned about acting for acting’s sake or the quality / nuances of acting and what that entails…instead, it’s about what that acting career brings them in the form of tangibles (money, fame, etc.)….unfortunately, this is something that will never change, since it’s already so embedded in HK culture…
On another related note: a few examples of artists who are passionate about acting (these are just ones who come to mind right away and so of course not all-inclusive list) —
-Power Chan (heard him talk about acting before and seriously, some of what he says goes way over my head, lol)
-Wayne Lai (read his book, which pretty much details this thoughts from the past few decades on acting as his craft)
-King Sir – Chung King Fai (the man who is the forefather of acting in HK and still going strong even now, like 50 (?) years later – wrote several very insightful books on acting and his experiences that are darn good reads)
-Sheren Tang (probably the only one on the female side – outside of stage artists of course – who is a consummate actress with profound insight on acting)
-Anthony Wong (who definitely deserves the “acting god” moniker that he’s often graced with)
I would love to get all these artists in a room and be a fly on the wall just listening to them discuss acting, lol…

The older generation singers do seem to take a huge sense of pride in their vocals and are really passionate about their professions. Even some of the modern day singers really enjoy showcasing their vocals, whether it is in malls, mini concerts or via the social media channels, YouTube etr… The difference with singing is that it all depends on individual and you have to provide yourself the opportunity to display it to the audience. With acting, a bit of luck is required to be given good roles and the only way to learn is to keep on taking on series. With singing, there are a lot more resources at the singers disposal to use to help train or improve.
The main difference between actors and singers are that the rewards and levels of motivation. As an actor/actress, a bad performance will generate a lot of negative rants from netizens and critics. It can be demoralising and the only way change that is to ‘wait’ for the next series to air and hope for the best! The passion and motivation for even the most eager actor/actress will flicker out from setback after setback. There are only one or two times a year to pull the audience back. The opportunities will eventually dry out if no improvement in the eyes of viewers. The ones who do gain success as we discussed earlier will move away from acting to easy money shows. (For example Michael Tse is probably camping in forests eating worms on reality shows to earn big)
Singers usually have the passion for singing from an early age. The rewards come very quickly and I don’t necessary mean in monetary terms. Whether they sing in the streets, in concerts or post on YouTube there will always be some applause,positive comments and people clicking likes. Any negative feedback, the singer can move on very quickly by singing another song. There is satisfaction for the singer to continue pushing for more success. Even for a specialist singer once they achieve fame, the only way of continuing career is to continue singing. The demand is there for them to sing wherever they go. They can’t earn more from other platforms so the motivation will likely still be there. Singers also have to continue adding new material and implementing the best technology to keep adding freshness for the audience. They usually take a lot of pride of their talent. Each voice is guaranteed to have their own uniqueness.We have seen examples of singers who became heartbroken one their vocals deteriorated (Leslie Cheung, Dave Wong)
Linda was excellent in “A Journey Called Life.” it’s just too bad that all her other role was only meh. overall, I rather watch her then a lot of other actresses!
