The rape of a 23-year-old TVB actress last week electrified fans. The press has been barred from revealing the name of the actress due to the ongoing police investigation. Since Apple Daily revealed titillating details that the actress had participated in a beauty pageant and possessed a strong interest in music, various young actresses have been speculated to be the victim. Both Loretta Chow (周美欣) and Hebe Chan (陈婉婷) clarified that they were not the rape victims.
The chief rape suspect was music producer, Lee Ming Ho (李銘豪). The rape allegedly took place at VI-MAX Music Studio, which was owned by Lee.
Loretta Chow Was in Macau on Night of Rape
Since the exposure of the rape incident, former 2007 Miss Hong Kong second runner-up, Loretta Chow, has been widely speculated to be the rape victim. The rape had taken place on Mother’s Day, May 13th, in which Loretta was in Macau with her mother and younger sister. To protect her own safety, Loretta rarely drank alcohol.
Appearing at a photography exhibit on May 20th, Loretta clarified that she has never visited VI-Max Music Studio in the past. Although Loretta has recorded music with Lee Ming Ho’s staff, she has never met him before.
However, Loretta revealed that she was once groped many years ago at a Halloween party. Loretta and her friends had dressed as Sailor Moon and the Sailor Scouts. A man walked behind Loretta and touched her bottom. She demanded for an apology and the man was escorted away by security staff.
Loretta recollected, “The man touched my bottom. I handled it foolishly, only asking him to say sorry. I did not report the incident to the police.”
Hebe Chan Gains Greater Recognition
After model and TVB actress, Hebe Chan, was rumored to be the rape victim, her recognition levels soared. This may have been a blessing in disguise for her career. She has received more job offers since her name became associated to the rape case.
Denying to be the rape victim, Hebe also said that she was never sexually harassed in her 4-year modeling career.
The petite and sweet-faced actress spoke of her professional limits, “I am not pursuing the sexy route [for my career]. My limit is wearing a tank top and shorts.” This was a refreshing change from the current market saturated with leng mo models, who were known for their sexy attire and pictorials. Hebe was inspired by Maggie Q’s accomplishments and set her as her professional target.
