Louise Lee Can No Longer Handle Long Filming Hours

Louise Lee (李司棋), who announced her departure from TVB last month, revealed that her future remains uncertain. She was offered various opportunities by different companies, but she has not make any firm decisions yet.

In a recent interview with Ariff Chan (陳永業) for the digital broadcaster DBC, Louise talked about her long and prosperous television career, which started in the late 1960s after winning the Miss Hong Kong Princess pageant. She also briefly worked as a news presenter in the late 1980s for Chinavision Canada, now known as Fairchild TV.

Prior to joining TVB in the late 1970s, Louise once worked for RTV, which was later renamed ATV in 1982. Louise expressed her sadness at ATV’s impending collapse and its inability to pay employee wages. “I hope everyone will persevere until the end,” she said.

Admitting that filming conditions are very harsh in the television industry, Louise shared that she once tried filming nonstop without much rest for a few days. The next morning, she was scheduled for an outdoor filming scene. “I reject offers because I know my body can’t take these conditions anymore. It’s not because I’m unhappy with the crew and production.”

Will the 64-year-old veteran actress stipulate shorter filming hours in her new contract? Louise said that is impossible and counterproductive, “If I demand to only work for 8 hours a day, then I will definitely be affecting others. I’ll rather accommodate others— maybe film my scenes first or at the very end. I want everyone to have time to rest.” Louise added that equality is very important when it comes to work.

HKTV Chairman Ricky Wong (王維基) reportedly offered $5 million HKD a month to air HKTV dramas through ATV channels, but ATV rejected his offer. Louise said, “Now is not the time to be concerned about the amount. It’s more important to stay alive.”

  1. Louise Lee’s role in 水髮胭脂 is how she is in real person. That’s why she can become that character so well.

I’m actually not praising her. Her role is a very unreasonable and angry person that no one likes.
