Mandy Wong is Optimistic Towards Acting Career

TVB actress Mandy Wong (黃智雯) joined the entertainment industry as one of the top five finalists in the 2007 Miss Hong Kong Pageant. Despite portraying several tough and tomboyish characters throughout her acting career, the 32-year-old described herself as a “quail” in real life. She cannot say that her journey as a celebrity has been the most successful or vibrant, only that she is not discouraged and is taking time to develop her talents.

Mandy expressed, “Maybe everyone feels that my career has been lacking progress ever since taking home the Most Improved Female Artiste award in 2012. Last year, my only drama was Tiger Cubs 2 <飛虎II>, and this year it’s only been Madam Cutie on Duty <師奶Madam> and The Fixer <拆局專家>. Honestly, I don’t really mind. I’m optimistic and see this as a period to stock up. Everyone has a different fate, and not everyone receives a perfect report card. I don’t expect to achieve great heights in just one step. I already feel very lucky in terms of my acting career.”

In recent years, Mandy has not only been filming TVB dramas, but also using her leisure time wisely by investing in her hobbies such as dancing and playing piano. Two months ago, she decided to devote some time to martial arts and engaged in swordplay. Although it is easier for Mandy due to her dance background, she exclaimed the practice is definitely not something to be mastered in just one day. In the future, she shared that she is interested in taking on a fighter image such as that of Zhang Ziyi’s (章子怡) character in The Grandmaster <一代宗師>, since it easily captivates viewers.

Speaking of her love life, Mandy expressed, “Everything is fine and I’m quite happy. Before, like many young girls, I imagined myself getting married at the age of 25. Now I understand that I don’t really need to plan things like that. I only hope to receive new opportunities in terms of my career.”

  1. i am not a big fan of hers. she’s okay. i never thought she’d get a lead role. i don’t think her acting is bad but it’s not good enough plus her mediocre looks. i know some people think kristin tin is no lead role material but at least her acting is really good. mandy’s not at that level.

She’s not on Kristin’s level of acting yet, but Mandy is a much better actress than most TVB actors nowadays, and I’m not even a fan of her.

      1. @anon Ha. You beat me to it xD I agree that she’s not the best nor prettiest looking but she is better than a couple of current female leads, i.e. Sisley Choi. I also find Mandy’s plain jane look is more easy on the eye than Sisley. So I’m glad TVB gives Mandy opportunities and bigger roles.
