Michael Miu Supports Charmaine Sheh for TV Queen: “There Is No One Else”

In a recent radio interview, Michael Miu (苗僑偉) promoted TVB crime drama Line Walker <使徒行者>. In the series, Michael plays Chief Inspector Cheuk Hoi, a CIB inspector in charge of overlooking a group of undercover agents. His character is romantically involved with Elena Kong’s (江美儀) Katie Mok, a housewife suffering from domestic abuse.

Asked if he and Elena had shared any “heavy-taste” scenes in the drama, Michael did not want to reveal any spoilers. “It can’t be too heavy anyway because it’s a television drama. It can’t be as intense her previous drama,” Michael referred to Elena and Kenneth Ma’s (馬國明) steamy makeout sessions in Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲宵II >. Asked if Michael is eager to try some heavier scenes in the future, Michael said, “No thanks!”

Michael is satisfied with the ratings for the drama, disclosing that Line Walker has managed to reach over the 30-point mark. “Peak ratings reached 31, and that means it has met the 30-point mark. I hope it continues to do well and attract more viewers. We have lost quite a few TV audiences over the years.”

With the TVB Anniversary coming soon in November, netizens are already discussing who will become this year’s TV King and Queen. Michael gave his support to Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼). “Charmaine’s performance in this drama is at the TV Queen level. [The award] will be hers. There is no one else this year.”

Costar Raymond Lam (林峯) has already left TVB management, and reports are calling Line Walker as his farewell project. Michael said, “You can’t say it’s a farewell. He decided to not renew his management contract. That doesn’t mean he’s never going to work with TVB again. The earth is round and he will most likely go back. It’s not like it was an unfriendly split. Besides, Raymond did very well [in Line Walker] and I think he has a chance for TV King.”

In other news, Michael revealed that he has recently collaborated with a Korean company to open an indoor golf simulation facility. He will reveal more details at the end of the month.

    1. Agree. Benz & LF acting really above par. Benz creepy laugh really have chemical reaction to this series

      1. saw these comments before watching episode 15, i must say ep15 is really good. minor flaw is that the girl who acted the teacher failed to show any sadness from her student’s death and the anxiety and stuff werent there. i’m usually not so picky about the performances of the small casts, but this ep is so good that she pales badly.

      2. Another thing I want to mention about the script in Ep. #15 is …….. “Dan Jeh” is a trained policewoman/undercover, why doesn’t she fight back and help the others when they are in life-threatening situations? She seems to be a totally helpless and scary woman. This does not make sense to me in the storyline. If “Dan Jeh” is a 線人 (someone who sells information to the police), I can understand and accept it, but not as a trained undercover.

      3. Because she hasnt been in active police duty for a long time. It is understandable that she is scared. I just dont get the clingy part. For an uc she hasnt been in dangerous gun figting situation. Even an active policeman would have been scared. So that is realistic.

      4. I don’t agree. Every trained undercover should be able to fight back or fire shots when he/she is in a life-threatening situation. An undercover should be well trained to handle this kind of dangerous scenes. Even a police officer should be able to do it unless she is in her 50s or so, and “Dan Jeh” is only 30 years old as per Character Descriptions.

      5. funn,”Because she hasnt been in active police duty for a long time” but this also count for lam fung why did he managed the situation so much better than charmaine then? also because in the previous episode she acted very smart and has an answer in every difficult situations and why then this totally helpless acting?

      6. Huh? Bao Seed is an active triad member who is constantly in danger, dealing with warring members, protecting his turf. He is on daily training and had to use his wits to save himself and his partner. He is a mole deep within the ranks of triad members, much like Sammy except Sammy is even deeper into the ranks.

Sis Deng operates a massage parlour and is primarily there to collect information. She hardly takes a gun and run after the bad guys or in constant danger being killed or hurt by warring triad members. She is a businesswoman in her cover and her most active duty is when she had to get close to Bao Seed and so exposes herself to danger in the triad war. She was never really within the ranks in the triad thing.

So her scared reaction was logical but if you’re not convinced by her fear (hey any seasoned policeman will be terrified being stuck in between a shootout) that is because Charmaine didn’t act out that sort of fear believably. On paper, I understand why Deng Jeh panics.

Same like the UC in ICAC. She wouldn’t have seen much action too, more like desk job so she too will be terrified. No one is completely gung ho or 100% brave. It is realistic in that sense. Anything less than that, you can blame the actress.

      7. ” also because in the previous episode she acted very smart and has an answer in every difficult situations and why then this totally helpless acting?”

Streetsmart and wise doesn’t mean she is brave or knows what to do when faced with a shootout between Thai drug lords and the police. This is big time case. Her feeling helpless is logical and moreover later she drove back to save Bao Seed, so she panicked but gathered her own wits and then later tried to remedy the situation.

Why no one ever ask why Bao Seed didn’t just jump into the van with her? Why run back? To save On Lam? Nope. To save fellow policemen? Nope. So what was it? And with Deng Jeh having to later drive back to exchange the drugs with Bao Seed, isn’t that like unnecessary drama? Did she know the drugs was not real? I don’t know. She jeapordises the entire operation to save 1 man. She is to me a failed UC in that regards, same as Sammy who kept running after his goddess, he could have got everyone killed.

  1. Maybe. She’s not the best but this is her best thus far even if she gets shrilly in emotional scenes and at times inconsistent.

    1. Oh? Is there another fadan who is at her level? And may I ask who is the best?

      1. The M Club ladies are better than her, but winning is another thing. I’d rather Charmaine than Linda.

      2. Can these M club ladies play in the role charmaine is given? PROBABLY NOT.

And why did they not win any BAs when they were really active?

      3. ^ How do you know they couldn’t have played the role?

“And why did they not win any BAs when they were really active”

Because the Anniversary Awards only got established in 1997, when most of them were gone from TVB already.

      4. it seems you’re the only one who is obsessed with these veteran actresses. If Never Dance Alone was that great, how come it’s currently ranked 8th out of all the dramas shown?

      5. Gilded Chopsticks is currently ranked first in ratings. Are you saying it’s the best drama of the year then?

      6. my guesses:
        1. Storm in A Cocoon.
        2. Line Walker
        3. Outbound Love
        4. Black Heart White Soul
        5. One of the anniversary series/Never Dance Alone/All that is bitter is Sweet

      7. I don’t think that’s what Babina is trying to say. But Never Dance Alone isn’t well received by everyone nor people see the actresses as contenders for the anniversary awards.

      8. My point is ratings don’t count for anything anymore in terms of determining what’s a good series or not?

      9. as for best actress top 5
Tavia Yeung/Charmaine Sheh are def. contenders. Perhaps Linda Chung if she portrays well enough. kristal/louisa.

      10. Ratings do matter because ratings= number of people who watched it.

And mediocre sereis tends to have lower viewership meaning less people will vote that series. And more people watched Outbound Love than NDA.

      11. Ratings no longer mattered the second When Heavens Burn won Best Drama

      12. lool even on social media, line walker is highly praised. even on twitter.

      13. Line Walker, Storm in a Cocoon def. are two of the top contenders for best drama.

        Other ones, not so sure.

      14. no matt. Storm in a Cocoon will definitely be out of top 5. It’s not well received at all in Hong Kong. I predict top 5 will be Outbound Love, Black Heart White Soul, Line Walker, Tomorrow is another Day and Come on, Cousin

      15. looks like you are outnumbered, Miriamfanz for never dance alone, lool

      16. “Outbound Love???”

Good question. How did OL suddenly jump up in rankings to 3rd place? Something smells really fishy. Is someone messing with the rankings?

      17. mw, its not out of the blue.
even on trumblexxs youtube page, the songs for outbound love has a lot of views.

      18. alot of people listen to the song means its popular? outbound love sucked. ruse of engagement should win

      19. I also want to know who can act 釘姐 better among the current TVB fadans besides Charmaine Sheh? Any suggestions?

      20. ruse of engagement wont win best drama. sorry. plot in line walker > plot in roe.

      21. agree charmaine has the best performance this year, followed by kristal in BHWS and tavia in storm in a cocoon.my top 5 drama this year: 1 line-walker
        2 black heart white soul
        3 storm in a cocoon
        4 gilded chopstick
        5 ruse of engagement

      22. Carmen Lee deserves to win. Charmaine was best for her own level but compared to others, I can name a few others who weren’t as shrilly in dramatic scenes.

I like to see Carmen Lee win because in a series with so many actresses she still manages to rise above all and was a complete natural in her grieving scenes.

      23. Yes Line Walker is exciting but I don’t think the story is that amazing. It can be silly at times. Don’t let Ron or Aimee lead you astray, Ruse Of Engagement is actually excellent from ep 7 to the end. Acting is debatable but I think it is less silly than Line Walker for the fact that Line Walker has too many UCs in the same place that to me is already too much. How easy everyone forgets the better series with better dialogues just because a new one comes along with more action. Storm In A Cocoon has a terrible ending, but it does not discount the fact that it has a better story and is well acted despite some make up mishap.

I do agree Charmaine improved a lot but I am sorry to say she can never be my choice for TV Queen because there is another more subtle, much better. I’d sooner give it to Elena Kong for Line Walker than to Charmaine. But I will give her Most Improved.

      24. By the way a lot of choices for TV King this year, I will Raymond Lam is deserving to be in the pool but the one to win is Roger Kwok. Yes he was OTT in his evil smirk in some scenes but the way he handled that last episode was subli

      25. Carmen Lee does not have a shrill voice anyway. Her voice is pretty low-pitched.

She acted well in “Never Dance Alone”, but her character is very different from “Dan Jeh”. “Dan Jeh” is a slightly over-exaggerated and dramatic character.

      26. “Oh? Is there another fadan who is at her level? And may I ask who is the best?”

No one says only a fadan can be TV Queen. Kristal was never a fadan. It should be for anyone in a leading role, and I am not sure what you mean by her level because every lead actress in TVB is at a certain level. If Grace Chan is amazing in sayyy Cheung Po Tsai, I will she deserves a chance to win too. If you’re talking about no. of years in acting, TV Queen is and should never be about pity votes. It should be about impact in a particular role in a particular series. And for that there is always more than 1 in any given series.

      27. However, I do agree that there are a lot of loopholes and silly plots in “Line Walker”, but it has nothing to do with acting. The storyline is not very convincing and amazing.

Personally I think acting is very good in “Line Walker”. The characters are designed by the scriptwriters, not by the artistes.

      28. “The characters are designed by the scriptwriters, not by the artistes.”

But interpreted by the artistes according to the direction of the directors.

      29. I doubt that Kristal Tin can do a better job as “Dan Jeh” than Charmaine Sheh. Personally I think Charmaine is more natural and sweeter in her acting than Kristal in this kind of character. Kristal is good in acting strong and stubborn characters.

Every actress has her own strengths and weaknesses in certain characters.

      30. I don’t quite agree. If Charmaine knew that she had to react as a trained undercover in dangerous scenes, she would definitely fight back or shoot as a trained undercover, not like a frightened woman in “Line Walker”. Of course, she could have discussed those factors with the director during filming. There could be a reason. I don’t think it had anything to do with her acting.

      31. @Funn: Agree with you on two things. 1) Carman Lee was masterful and certainly deserves TV Queen 2) SIC was actually very good in terms of the mystery. LW is suspenseful due to the missing fifth agent, but there’s too much comical effect that’s distracting from the urgency of the case.

      32. @sandcherry: if I had to pick someone else to do Charmaine’s role from the current fadans, it would probably be only Tavia who can do it

      33. Directing is one thing, script is another and of course the performance. I am not saying she is terrible, I feel this is her best since forever but her best isn’t the very best everyone talks about.she is really not the best consistent actress ever.

      34. Kristal as Dan Jeh? Oh no no. Please no! Tavia? She is already overworked. Give the girl a rest.

      35. “Dan Jeh” is a slightly over-exaggerated and dramatic character.”

That’s because Charmaine did it that way.

      36. I do like Charmaine in this role, save for some parts where she exaggerates too much. If it were Tavia, we’d probably get a different Deng Jeh, maybe a more outgoing one like her prostitute role in AGWTC2

      37. By the way I just saw on the telly La Femme Desperado and my god, Raymond looked so different!! He is certainly an upgrade now in terms of looks, but acting wise, at least less chok.

      38. Tavia will be more tom boyish, whilst Charmaine is more girlish despite her efforts not to act like one. Both can play independent women but Charmaine can cry more beautifully whilst Tavia can cry very tragically. But since I have been seeing Tavia so many time, I am ok with Charmaine. But I just disagree on the TV Queen comment.

      39. Hehe, I actually think Mandy Wong is suitable to play this kind of character. She has a girlish aura, rather like Charmaine. And the girl has acting chops.

      40. I was just talking about Charmaine’s acting as “Dan Jeh’s character, not Charmaine as a TV Queen in 2014. I haven’t watched all the drama series in 2014, and am not in a position to judge.

If Tavia Yeung acts “Dan Jeh”, it will be a completely different “Dan Jeh”. As someone said, her “Dan Jeh” will be a tomboy and with less feminine characteristics. Now Charmaine’s “Dan Jeh” is a cute, sweet, hilarious, bubbly, lively and 生鬼 character. Personally I enjoy this “Dan Jeh” more.

      41. dan jeh was probably a bubbly, lively. girl. tavia would be inappropriate.

      42. I feel this is her best since forever but her best isn’t the very best everyone talks about. She is really not the best consistent actress ever.
        ————————————————————–
When an artiste is given TV King or TV Queen award, it is only based on his/her performance in one single drama series, not in all recent dramas aired in the whole year. If Charmaine’s acting as “Dan Jeh” is amazing in “Line Walker”, she is nominated for TV Queen award in “Line Walker” only, same with any other artistes.

Kristal Tin won TV Queen in her “Brother’s Keeper” in 2013, but it does not mean that her acting is TV Queen level in all her drama series. This applies to all artistes. Wayne is another good example. He won 3 TV King awards, but his acting was not TV King level in “Bullet Brain” or some other drama series.

      43. 釘姐 is probably a bubbly, lively character when the scriptwriter wrote that character. Not because Charmaine decided to turn 釘姐 into a character who is bubby, energetic and lively.

Tavia yeung would not be suitable because she’s not a bubbly, lively person.

Mandy wong is also wrong because she’s a serious type of girl.

      44. @Archelle,

That’s where you’re wrong. Mandy has been typecasted recently to only play serious characters. I place full bets that if she needs to be bubbly, lively and totally cute character, she can pull it off with ease.

      45. Mandy could prob. pull it off but will it be as convincing and have the chemistry that raymond and charmaine sheh have? Probably not.

      46. “dan jeh was probably a bubbly, lively. girl. tavia would be inappropriate.”

Now this is where things get a bit ironic I suppose? Weird? BEcause Tavia in real life is bubbly lively girl!

      47. lol wasnt it rumoured that if charmaine couldnt film it due to her health/injury then linda chung would have replaced her?

actually glad it’s charmaine but wouldnt mind seeing rayda again

    2. if the comical element is funny why not? and i found it not really distracting, its entertaining and make the serie more dimensional.

      1. I also enjoyed them as long as the scenes are logical! It is more entertaining for majority audience.

      2. funny yes, but logical, no. The things some of them do would have jeapordise the mission(s) and got them killed. Sometimes the cute music is so inappropriate and the emphasis wrong. I get the excitement but at the end of the day there was a time Line Walker was walking the line between good storytelling and gimmicky storytelling.

      3. Agree. The storyline has a lot of loopholes and some of the plots don’t make sense.

  2. Notice her acting improved quite alot so does Raymond. On lam died noooo…she is so pretty..really wish to see her more..

    1. Agree. Both Charmaine Sheh and Raymond Lam have improved a lot in their acting in “Line Walker”. Raymond is not just a “chok Fung” any more after watching him as 爆 Seed.

    2. @ ita–

Yeah what a shame. I think On Lam (Anke) is so gorgeous. She has such a sultry look, I think she’s like the half-Asian Angelina Jolie lol. But imagine if she didn’t die, how awful would she be to Raymond. A girl who’s about to lose the love of her life to Charmaine? She ain’t gonna have it. It’ll be just drama, drama, drama. They had to get rid of her, so she died conveniently.

      1. I love the suggestive scene where she came in limping and hurt and her hands bruised and her “father” asked her if the boat trip arranged and she said yes and he said he was rough with her. That moment on I knew her life is doomed and I really really pity her. On Lam is an intriguing character, a pity she is not given the emphasis and became On Seed’s statistic in people he think he hurt to get his job as UC done. What a waste of a good storyline.

Ankie is proving to be an effective actress. And yes she is sexy as hell. Lucky Ruco!

      2. @ Funn,

Yup totally agree. I pitied her life when we heard that story. Even if she can live normally after she escapes, the scars will remain deeply entrenched. I highly doubt she’d be able to face herself when she’s finally sober. I think death, in that sense, was a relief for her. She no longer has to confront reality and question her actions. A pity though.

      3. Also I find it very disturbing that her adoptive “father” makes her do such things. Considering how he lost his wife and daughter brutally, and then labels her and the rest of the group as daughter and sons, you’d think he would treat them better.

      4. @Funn
Oh that rumor? In that case, I’d say lucky Ankie instead. Ruco’s a hot suen poon bachelor who’s attracting a lot of attention especially lately from his female co-stars. Most recent one is Grace Chan flirting unabashedly with him on the set of Cheung Po Tsai. She practically drooled all over him until the poor guy got quite embarrassed by her attention.

  3. This year only 2 TVB drama captivated me. One was M Club and the other is Line Walker.

Have to say Line Walker is slightly better because the storyline is keeping me guessing (whose the 5 undecover cops) and Charmaine is making me laugh in every episode. I also hope she’ll win TVB Queen.

    1. the main two dramas that will be in it top 5 for the best drama race is probably Steven’s comeback drama, Line Walker, Outbound love, Glided Chopsticks and one of the anniversary series.

  4. this is better than other cop dramas released by tvb. hope it gets best drama!

    1. I thought I was the only one! The only role I actually liked her in was in Glittering Days; she was cute as Dai Dee, maybe FH2 too. Otherwise, I avoid her dramas. Don’t like that chok guy either.

      1. Totally agree. Can’t stand the Teh Pau ott acting and chok fung who thinks he is a god’s gift to women. My love for Michael Miu can’t overcome the combination of those two. Avoid the series.

  5. I’ve been feeling “ehhh” about Raymond for so long now. Used to love him but his character and drama he’s been in has been very bland. This drama though made me love him all over again. I’m pretty sure this drama has been one of the most “nicely” written tvb drama that they’ve had for awhile now. Seriously worth watching.

  6. I disagree. The way I see it, she over acted. Her expressions were exaggerating. On the contrary, I like lam fung’s acting in this series (though I’ve never been a fan of his)

    1. Lam Fung is on par with his acting. hope he wins an award, even a “my favorite male character” would do.

      1. Does TVB still have an award for my favourite? I thought they took it out since last year with the stupid ‘one person one vote’ policy

    2. i think she supposed to act like that though. and agree about raymond, he improved a lot~ i really like his acting in here

  7. I think she and Ruco will win. Best drama will be Line Walker or MClub. I hope Michael Miu, KK Cheung, Lau Dan, Ram Chiang, and also this old guy thats in all the tv series ( he’s short and blad) will get an award. They derseve an award.

    1. I hope Life achievement goes to lau dan and the other veteran artists.

And Charmaine Sheh is really good in Line Walker. This is one of her best representative works ever. Never Dance Alone was kinda boring.

      Michael Miu= best supporting actor?

      1. Michael is the main character here in line walker~~` not a supporting character

    1. And it would be great if they could collaborate in at least one series

  8. Charmaine is a better actress now then when she left. She’s not the best actress, but competent.

I’m also enjoying Michael and Raymond. Somehow, I feel the old Raymond is back. Maybe the role is layered, which gives him a lot to work with. As for Michael, one of his best performances ever since his came back. He’s doing well in his recent dramas.

    1. I would say all major artistes act very well in “Line Walker” ……… Charmaine Sheh, Raymond Lam, Michael Miu, Elena Kong and Sammy Shum (in this order), plus the 3 mothers of “Dan Jeh”.

The only weak ones are Sharon Chan and Patrick Tang.

      1. If there is a TV supporting actor king, I’d give it to Benz Hui for Line Walker. He is just plain creepy and that means he was effective.

      2. agree sharon’s acting is flat but i thought patrick is good in line walker.his eye act like a serial killer and his face shows his evil mind. totaly convincing as a corrupted officer to me.yes im surprised by benz hui too, maybe he is the 5th uc.

      3. News flash: benz hui last year won best supporting male artiste. he could win it again.

      4. Sharon only flashes her legs chest and have that sexy dumb look all the time.

    2. Who is the best actress to you? I’m just curious, and in which drama series?

      1. Funn lim would say it is Linda Chung or Aimee. Drama is anything that has Ruco in it.

  9. Really? Did you guys already forgot about ruse of engagement? I thought that should win best drama. M club sucks actually cuz the storyline was really dumb ND the acting was pretty lame.

    1. rue of engagement is not up to par with the suspense level of Line Walker.

Line walker can be considered as one of the top cop dramas produced by tvb.

And M Club= stupid show. my relatives actually hated that show.

      1. ruse of engagements sucks ~~~ seriously no offense but seriously it sucks so much especially the ending~~

      2. I love Ruse but don’t like the ending cos the main characters especially Carson didn’t have to die. The suspense and cliffhangers at the end of each episode leave the viewers in eager anticipation for the next. 25 eps was too short.

      3. the ending of roe is stupid and lame. it had a lot of potential.

        skipped never dance alone.

      4. Ruse of Engagement wasn’t bad, except in the end when aimee’s character just went silly/script decides to force her to end up like that.

      5. TBH there’s something wrong with Line Walker. I hate the intertitle or the poster cuz it’s way too cheesy. Also I don’t like the editing cuz some parts were too dark. At the part when Michael Miu was talking to Elana Kong at the beach, the waves were louder than their voice. I couldn’t hear anything. Something in this drama is just not going well. In ROE I really liked the intertitle and the editing and posters, they looked real! Only problem I had with ROE was all the advertised actions scenes happened in the first two episodes, all the SDU-themed battles happened in the first 5 episodes, and the rest was mostly Ruco and Ron heroic acts.

    2. hahaha ruse of engagement was boring as hell!!! and that acting isnt that great like people in line walker.

i couldnt even finish the serioues beacuse of amiee…

      1. i watched it but i couldnt finish it lol at least i was more than half way LOL i never said i didnt watch it lol compared to a few others, ruse is still weak and boring…

    3. You must be blind, ROE is one of the top dramas this year. Very suspenseful! The ending sucked though but very suspenseful.

I guess people found it boring because the cast was crappy.

      1. The cast was good, even Ron, though I normally don’t like him. The weak link is Aimee. She killed the climatic ep 21 where she was revealed as the mole with her cringeworthy acting. However, I think she made up for that with ep 25. Except for some lapses, I would say she was quite good especially in the last few minutes of that episode. Yoyo was so much better than her especially in the crying scenes. Aimee’s crying just gives me goosebumps of the wrong kind.

      2. I agree on aimee acting but her mole character made sense. Up until some terrible storytelling roe was classy. I think of the story highly and that series shows women being capable and resourceful.

  10. Raymond has improved, definitely better than his “Highs and Lows”(2012) Performance.

  11. I cant think of anyone better than Charmaine Sheh, she’s always the best!

  12. i love charmaine in this but i think tvb will give the award to linda this year. it just feels like her time, and tvb needs to keep her sweet. just whatever they do, please don’t give it to kristal again. after finally watching brother’s keeper two weeks ago, i am stumped as to why she won best actress last year. what was so special about her character or her acting?

  13. I actually think Charmaine and Sammy could’ve had a ton of potential in Line Walker too. She generally gives off a flirty vibe, so she easily attracts men’s attention with her antics. And Sammy enjoys her personality too. But, ya know, they wanted to pair her up with Raymond, which is fine too lol. I loved the part when Raymond drove the car with Anke in it. Even though I know the scene’s fake, if a guy really had the cajones to do that, then he definitely gets brownie points. So he’s really a catch 🙂 (in the drama at least.)

  14. I definitely hope Charmaine will take home the award this year. She may receive it just because she signed with TVB (it may have been a part of the contract you know how the entertainment business works), but she is very very capable as well. Charmaine is actually bringing back some much needed spotlight to TVB. I am sure many people are watching Line Walker because it is Charmaine’s official return to TVB after quite some time. Line Walker having a pretty decent plot is also another plus. Raymond has also improved a lot in his acting in the recent years, and it really shows after I watched mainland’s “Virtuous Queen of Han”. Whether he will earn TV King is hard to say because I feel like Ruco’s chances may be higher (he is given many roles in recent). As for Charmaine’s character in LW, I think she portrays her very well. She is quirky, dramatic, and sassy. I am not caught up to the latest episode, but one thing that will seal the deal is her emotional acting later in the drama. I think Charmaine will pull it off just fine and win TV Queen. On the other hand I could be completely wrong and TVB could give it to Linda Chung, one of the most promoted actresses in TVB, but in all honesty I think Linda has been the same for the longest time. Her acting comes off as bland and not interesting for me. It will depend on if she can pull in some high viewer ratings in her new drama. The only other drama that could snag some awards may be Storm in a Cocoon, which plot wise has been the best (though the ending sucked). Steven Ma made a great return to TVB, and Tavia was well… Tavia. She is a very consistent actress and that may get her the award since she is highly promoted and valued by TVB.

Anyways, TVB is a lot about connections and what the actor can give to TVB in the future, so we will just have to wait and see.

  15. Charmaine deserves BA, hopefully she doesn’t get robbed again like for When Heaven Burns.

    1. I surely hope not. “When Heaven Burns” was a more serious drama series, and not many people liked it or knew how to appreciate it. It was harder for Charmaine to have her acting recognized. However, “Line Walker” seems to be a drama series for most people, and her acting is easier to be appreciated by people.

    1. so far it’s either charmaine or one of the never dance alone artistes.

  16. Michael Miu Supports Charmaine Sheh for TV Queen: “There Is No One Else”
    —————————————————————–
Did Michael Miu say the same thing to Kate Tsui when “Highs and Lows” was airing?

If he did, Michael Miu just wanted to be nice to his co-stars and promote his drama series. However, if he did NOT, then he really thought Charmaine Sheh should get TV Queen award in “Line Walker”.

    1. Michael Miu is a veteran and he surely knows what good acting is from an artiste.

    2. I lot of people supported Kate Tsui in Highs and Lows, that was probably her best work and one of the best performances in 2012(?????).

  17. I don’t really know if Charmaine deserves Best Actress though. Her character was written very well, but is it her character that shines through or Charmaine’s acting? Acting-wise, holy hell was I impressed by Elena Kong’s acting as the abused and depressed wife. So noteworthy of attention ’cause it was hard to witness her tragedy, my god, she was awful to look at. I was convinced.

Charmaine got the luck of the draw this time, and got a really lovable character to play. I’m not sure it’s indicative of BA acting though.

    1. This applied to Wayne Lai’s acting as Chai Gou in “Rosy Business”. In fact, I did not find his acting any difference from his other supporting characters in the past, but his role was a 1st lead role, and he was entitled to be nominated for Best Actor Award. Therefore, it is pure luck. This applied to Kristal Tin too. If she did not get Ah Ying’s role in “Brother’s Keeper”, I doubt she would win Best Actress Award in 2013.

Some artistes are luckier than others. The best for an artiste to do is to get himself/herself prepared (as mentioned by Ruco chan) and wait for the right role, and you will shine easily.

    2. I actually thought she over act a little. It could have been better if she tone it down.

  18. routing for Charmaine and Roger Kwok for BA this year! For a TVB series comeback, Charmaine definitely doesn’t disappoint! And Roger’s acting in Black Heart White Soul in masking the evilness and greed through an innocent face, was just too good!

  19. Let’s just say Raymond Lam is not going to win the award because he left TVB LOL! Roger Kwok is the front runner now, Ruco follows as my personal pick.

As for female queen, Carmen Lee’s acting was very nice too but I’m sure the press is going to bolster Charmaine now.

    1. hey even if raymond lam stayed, tvb aint gonna give it to him and never will.

not sure if tvb is even gonna consider putting him in the top 5. not surprised if he’s not.

      1. Why do you think he wouldn’t? There really isn’t a standout actor for the dramas this year. Even Roger’s performance was a little above average…. Ruco was good but he is still considered a newcomer so I don’t think ROE will allow him to win the award. If he stayed, he might have win it since there is really no competition this year.

Even Wayne Lai was boring as h……

      2. As for leaving him out of top 5, I would say he may make top 5. At least this will attract him to go to the TVB anniversary awards and boast the ratings LOL.

If he doesn’t come, I really doubt TVB will allow another controversial win like Dayo last ear. It was such a joke that he won over Francis who actually respected TVB and attended the damn ceremony.

      3. And Dayo was just funny….. He didn’t gather a lot of votes from viewers, he won because he had higher scores from TVB’s director judges.

      4. Personally I think “Bounty Lady” was just a comedy. I didn’t find any good acting in it, not even by Benz Hui. Benz Hui deserves Best Supporting Actor in “Line Walker” but not in “Bounty Lady”

      5. I disagree completely. It is easy to dismiss bounty lady but that series even made usually bed actress rather entertaining.

      6. Comedies are a lot harder to film than you’d expect and Dayo, Benz, Kate, Elena, May, etc. all performed well.

      7. Dayo was not under TVB, but he won last year…it is only depend on TVB management!

  20. look like TVB is promoting Linda this year…but I rather Charmaine than Linda…honestly…Linda is very sweet girl…that she can only act very sweet girl in very drama…nothing else! I am not fans of either one…

  21. The shootout scene that led up the part where Charmaine and LF running to the vehicle was unrealistic. Both would have taken different routes to get to their respective car door forcing the enemy to shoot at two different targets at different angles instead of one. Opening the door for the female is noble but a stupid idea if ones life is at stake. Charmaine running in high heel shoes while supporting an injured LF through various obstacles and terrain without tripping or spraining her ankle(s)is another headscratcher.

    1. Agree. TVB drama series is never perfect. They always have a lot of unreasonable plots and developments. That is typical TVB!

  22. Why not Ruco to be BA this year? He is not newcomer. Since he come back to TVB in 2007, he has never disappointed us about his acting from his third, second, then first role in every drama that he participates. We may disappoint about the story line such as ROE but not his acting.

  23. I was only watching Line Walker because of Michael. However, agreed that Charmaine n Ray has improved in their acting. I dont mind if Charmaine won BA.

  24. For thse who doesn’t understand why Sui ka (charmaine) was so scared at that gun fire scene is no one seems to have paid attention to the fact that sui ka work in the administration department on the plice force which mean she probably doesn’t have fire with a gun expect durning her police education. She doesn’t have a gun on her own.

  25. i dont understand why people say Raymond’s acting has improved, his character in this drama is just like the “mooncake” drama and “highs and lows” (the drugs drama).

whereas Charmaine’s acting in this series really shines. it really shows how actresses like sharon cannot act :/

  26. To me, Raymond has the same expression on every show. I have not seen any improvement yet from him. The ones up to par can act in both evil and good characters (Wayne Lai, Ruco Chan, Tavia Yeung).

    1. Agree that Wayne Lai and Ruco Chan can act both evil and good characters, but not Tavia Yeung. Her acting was way OTT in “Beyond the Realm of Conscience” ……….. my personal opinions only.
