Mr. Hong Kong 2010 Conduct First Round of Interviews thumbnail

TVB conducted its first round of interviews for the upcoming 2010 Mr. Hong Kong Contest. Of the twenty-nine men who appeared, most of the applicants possessed muscular bodies. The applicants lifted their shirts to show-off their abdominal muscles and did not mind revealing their nipples, body hair, and underwear bands.

Among the applicants, William Chak Fung (formerly known as Chak Wai Lim) received an award in ATV’s 2005 Mr. Asia Contest.  The youngest contestant was seventeen years old. Due to the requirement of a guardian’s presence, the boy’s mother attended the interview with him. Choi Ka Chun entered the 2009 Mr. Hong Kong Contest but was not placed. When the press asked Choi Ka Chun whether he applied for the 2010 Mr. Hong Kong Contest again due to his current unemployment status, he did not respond. There was one Caucasian applicant who said he was a DJ. Accompanying him were two female friends and a black male to distribute flyers while broadcasting loud music. Upon entering TVB City , the DJ assumed a quieter stance.

Jayne: Aside from William Chak and the DJ, the other applicants do not look very promising. Mr. Hong Kong is a fun show, but the quality of the contestants are somewhat lacking.

The hottest Mr. Hong Kong winners are of course Stephen Huynh and Benjamin Yuen. Who else thinks Ben is hot? How come he is not very highly promoted?

    1. sehseh says:

Oh mg gawd. To that uncle who’s showing your belly, keep your shirt tucked in please!

Hopefully there will be more good looking ppl auditioning soon. Seriously, most of the guys above won’t even warrant a 2nd glance on the street.

    2. Kidd says:

Why did the some of the guys have to show their abdominal muscles in such a way? Pulling up their shirt in public to be photographed? Don’t they have any dignity?

Leave you abs for the competition or when you are actually doing some nice photoshoot or while having fun on the beech. Not like this. You don’t see Ms.HK contestants lifting up their shirt to show their flat and smooth belly in public, do you?

    3. Samantha says:

Yeah have to agree this years contestants aren’t very attractive looking, appealing to the eye…

    4. pandamao says:

      Jason was the hottest….

His tiny eyes were so captivating!

    5. Jayne says:

Sehseh, the reporters probably asked the men to pull up their shirts and being good sport, they compiled.

The Mr. HK is primarily a muscle contest.

    6. Kidd says:

Jayne, Stephen Huynh didn’t win. He was one of the final 4, but, he lose to Rocky in his group. Matthew Ko and Rocky Cheng were the final 2 and Matthew Ko won the title.

It’s funny how so many people think Stephen was the winner and forgot about Rocky and Matthew. (Note: in Matthew’s case, I don’t mean people forgot about his person, but that people forgot that he participated in and won the first Mr.HK title.). I guess Matthew did a good job distancing himself from his title. I did read an news article some years back that Matthew want to shed his Mr.HK label and be known as a serious actor or something.

    7. Kidd says:

A good body helps, but, muscles alone won’t help the contestants win the title. History has already shown that. Look at the past winners,

      Matthew Ko
      Francois Huynh
      Benjamin Yuen
      Michael Wilson Tsu
      Jack Hui

None of them are muscle men except Michael Tsu and Michael Tsu won not because of his muscles alone but his overall package, that adorable smile, the good looks, the self-confidence, the playful personality.

The contestants who think that they can win just by showing the muscles are sorely mistaken.

    8. sehseh says:

Agree with Kidd. While the participants are expected to show off their body in swimwear segment, having bigger muscles doesn’t equalize to winning, or even a requirement. It’s like telling Ms Hong Kong to must have big boobs before joining the contest.

    9. Star says:

My favourite Mr. Hong Kong’s are Stephen Huyhn, and Matthew ko… despite their good looks… they also have good acting :D

    10. HeTieShou says:

I have to say that it is more than just looks in a pageant, but I know that looks do play an important part of it. I have not watched the Mr. Hong Kong pageant at all yet but have seen the Ms. Hong Kong pageant for many years. I have noticed that the most attractive ones don’t always win since it should be based on more than just looks only. If it were based on looks alone, I really question why some of the previous winners of the MS. HK pageant actually won the title.

I have also noticed that winners are at times not as successful as non winners. Winners are also usually forgotten versus non winners. But it also varies from case to case as well… However, in general that seems to be the case from what I have seen…

    11. Kidd says:

There was always a rumour circulated around that Kenix didn’t win or even make the top 3 becuase TVB wanted her to start acting earlier. If she won, she would have to fullfill her duty as Ms.HK first.

In Mr.HK pageant, one category that is important to do well is the talent competition. This section doesn’t seem so important, but, in Mr.HK, an interesting and captivating performance can win you a lot of vote. Matthew’s piano playing alone keep him at the top throughout the competition. Jack Hui won because of his amazing dance performance. I think Benjamin’s performance of a Sam Hui song while playing the guitar also bring him a lot of marks.

    12. Vivien says:

Stephen hunyh and Matthew ko cant act yet. Still stiff

    13. bbfreak says:

my fav winnner was Michael Tsu (i also liked Alan Wan of that yr)- i wud have to say they had the best quality that yr! joey law was also kute then!

    14. Mizuki says:

i seriously agree with everyone that posted b4 me… i mean like really dont think ur hot just cuz u have muscles augh :P the guys at my school are probably ten times hotter than these contestants no offence really o3o
