Ghetto Justice 2 <怒火街頭2> premiered on Monday, July 3oth to much fanfare. Following its successful run last year, the sequel has pulled strong ratings and excited the audience. While Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) has been the center of media attention recently due to her break-up with Bosco Wong (黃宗澤), she remains focused and committed on her work.  In an interview with TVB Weekly, Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎)  and Myolie spoke about revisiting their characters one year after filming the original TVB drama. Kevin and Myolie displayed their natural chemistry together as costars, revealing the inside scoop on their intimate scenes.

Kevin said, “The ‘Law Ba’ character was very well received by the viewers. In the sequel, he continues to be the laid-back and obnoxious lawyer that everyone grew to love and hate. On the flip side, Myolie’s character changed significantly after Law Ba went to prison. While managing Law Ba’s law practice, she matured and became passionate to help out the community in Shum Shui Po.”

A Sweet Intimacy

Compared to filming the original Ghetto Justice, Myolie also acknowledged that filming the sequel was much smoother because the cast knew each other better and was more at ease.

In fact, when asked about filming the initimate scenes with Myolie, Kevin said, “At first I wasn’t sure how we were going to pull it off. Myolie was really nervous. When the cameras started rolling, she really got into character with a ‘do it or die’ kind of mentality. Since she was so immersed, of course I had to roll with the punches!”

Myolie added, “In the first series, our characters were enemies who turned into lovers, so there was much more bickering between them. But in the sequel, they are already a committed couple, so there are more tender and sweet moments between them, like a real life couple.”

Viewers may remember one scene when Kevin slapped Myolie’s buttocks in the premiere episode of Ghetto Justice 2.  Kevin takes credit for that scene, noting, “Since Myolie’s nickname in the series is ‘Law Yau’, I thought it would be funny to slap her butt. Of course, I had her permission to do so! But it’s only with Myolie; I wouldn’t dare to do that to another actress!”

Although it seems like the onscreen couple has many sweet and funny moments, their relationship will face the ultimate test with the addition of Christine Kuo’s (苟芸慧), character. Myolie and Kevin had nothing but praise for the newcomer, noting that Christine tried really hard to study and practice her lines despite her accent.

Myolie and Kevin’s back and forth banter during the interview shows how comfortable and at ease they are with one another. When translated onto their onscreen performance in Ghetto Justice 2, viewers can enjoy their wonderful chemistry and see a more natural progression in their characters’ relationship.

    1. elin says:

hahahah just saw gj1 oh god.. nt tht i mean to critize but her cantonese really bad.. n her english wasnt tht good eithr

    2. Funn Lim says:

Sigh, so the PR machine begins. They’re good co stars but perfect like Bobby Au Yeung and Esther Kwan perfect is a bit too strong a word to use. So far Ghetto Justice 2 follows the pattern of Ghetto Justice 1, even the characters are the same except for different names. I felt like I was watching a rehash BUT it is entertaining for the time being.

    3. happybi says:

I love their chemistry on GJ1! So of course I love that there is a sequel!!!

    4. Khanh says:

Quite disappointed that Christine is in this, as she runs every drama she has been in. Her acting is just bad

    5. Anna says:

Have to agree that Myolie and Kevin’s chemistry is much more natural and comfortable in the sequel. Of course Myolie & Kevin had nothing but praise for Christine.. it’s a TVB magazine interview after all. Just imagine if they could speak the truth – which is “OMG Christine Kuo sucks and cannot act”.

    6. AC says:

Their chemistry has definitely gotten a lot better in GJ2 due to them actually being friends. I remember not caring for them in Burning Flames 3 since they were so boring there, but I really love them together now.

    7. Hannah says:

Indeed, better chemistry in the sequel. But, something is still missing…

    8. Cynthia says:

I too was able to see the chemistry between Myolie and Kevin. Christine and Kevin’s chemistry was iffy. On a side note, TVB definitely put in efforts to filming this series, they even got permission to play Adele’s Someone Like You song couple of times throughout the Love triangle between the three.

      • Anna says:

Speaking of using Adele’s music in the series… what’s up with “Rolling in the deep” as the background music in the first several episodes??! Total disconnect..

        • M1RACLE says:

I know right? I was like uhhh he’s just eating instant noodles LOL

        • Summer says:

Totally agreed that the choice of the background music was a bit off.

        • kenny says:

Right … and Englishlanguage forum site does not mesh well with China dramas too.

        • pearl says:

somebody on facebook wrote that it was in relation to “there’s a fire, starting in my heart…..” linking it to “fire” in 怒火街頭 i.e. 火. don’t shoot the messenger k. i just repeated what i read. :P either lame or deep lah.

        • krize150 says:

I don’t see anything wrong. It’s not like having English music in an ancient series. In modern times, people in HK are exposed to American culture like music and movies, especially since American media is the most globalized in the world. When you listen to modern asian music, there’s plenty of random english lyrics.

      • FC says:

English music does not mesh well with TVB dramas in general…it’s just weird to me….

      • Larry 3 says:

Too much OD on Adele’s music… Could have put Justin Boober’s Baby in somewhere.

        • Funn Lim says:

Adele’s music suits the scenes but it is like replay every few scenes. Like 1 episode at least 2 rounds of Adele’s song.

    9. ... says:

the only problem in ghettojustice 2 is christine

    10. P. Tan says:

Well, since Christine is supposed to have come from a long period in the West her Cantonese could excusably be “bad”. However, she is very attractive I think and Kevin could have easily have fallen in love with her though she was only 18 then.

    11. Larry 3 says:

Christine Kuo is wrecking the series. Shame on you TVB!

    12. FC says:

Why is TVB giving Christine such a big character when her chinese and acting sucks? It takes too much effort and concentration for me to understand her chinese. Her looks is not enough to make up for her terrible performance.

      • kenny says:

I did find improvement in Cristine Kuo’s acting from her previous appearances.

      • SY says:

I agree! Horrendous! N she isn’t that pretty! I find her fake in every aspects and bimbo looking.

        • skinnymocha says:

Haha, I’d never seen her before, but I got the impression her looks are her only asset. I mean for her to be heavily promoted with absolutely no talent – judging from the words on this site – I at least thought her looks would be out of this world. Googled her and by no means is she ugly, but nor is she a stunning beauty either…

      • blurnemo says:

Sorry to say that but i don’t like her acting as well, she is not natural. Even in the SDU series, she is not natural too and a bit overreact in some scenes.

    13. Gigi says:

have to fast forward HER (christine kuo) cringe inducing acting. whats the point of scoring a meaty role and can’t produce good result with it. The secretary to Myolie is also pretty bad. trying to hard… please train them more before handing out the big roles… TVB!

Have to put up with horrific acting for another 15 eps… Bleh!

    14. a-pop says:

Ron career almost start to alive on early year due to L’Escargot . Now he totally ruin his chances to rising again.

    15. Amy says:

Just watched till ep4 on pps. Gotta say Law Ba is really charming and cute that i would like to keep him in my pocket!Lucky Si Fu! Rawr!

But more on the plot, is it mentioned in GJ1 that the reason he left his wife?

      • SY says:

no wife was mentioned at all in GJ1. The wifey plot only appeared in GJ2. Out of the blue!! Pluck form the sky!

      • nemesis says:

One more problem. Isn’t Jazz Law Ba’s cousin? How come even he is unaware of Law Ba’s wife.

        • Funn Lim says:

Because Law Ba is many years older than Jazz and he was away overseas and that was where Law Ba married his wife. Then he returned to HK without her. So Jazz not knowing will be logical if Law Ba never told anyone once he came back to HK.

        • Funn Lim says:

And remember GJ1? I have a feeling Law Ba wasn’t close to MJ until MJ was sent to be Law Ba’s assistant by his father if I remember correctly.

    16. Lol says:

Sorry but the plot is going down hill. Why is the hot shot lawyer from the last case doing traffic court in ep.4?

      • nemesis says:

You mean Elena Kong? I think they just want to show Jazz’s character being pressurized by her. That’s not really a big issue.

      • Funn Lim says:

Lol, it is possible if the person charged is some rich dude driving his ferrari. Also to show Jzz intimidated by her presence which is realistic.

    17. Hannahh says:

Kevolie is just perfect haha! Love the 1st GJ n sequel is really good. Looking forward to every eps.

    18. SY says:

Just watched episode 6 and Law Ba told his ex-wife that the person he loves now is Wong Sifu!! yay!!!

      • Funn Lim says:

Heartless man. When he married her I suppose he just toyed with her heart.

        • SY says:

Don’t agree with you. Lot of circumstances led to the separation and after 10 years apart and believing she was married, he just moved on with his life. Anyway, just storyline. Just sit back and enjoy.

      • lolol says:

Then the reason behind the Lynette is utterly pointless and illogical… merely to show Law Ba married for three months some random girl who seems like a freaking robot with no emotions and is incapable of crying…

        • SY says:

Haha. Ya she looked pretty bad when she cried. And it was kinda fake. I really don’t see the point in including the ex-wifey plot, especially when he told her he loves Wong Sifu upfront. Maybe the ex-wifey will still try to get back Law Ba.

        • Hannnahh says:

          haha i couldn’t stop laughing

    19. P. Tan says:

A 10 -year separation between 2 loved ones can be painful and long, besides, because of the father’s trick that made Kevin think that Christine had got married to another that made him get involved with Myolie later.

    20. Funn Lim says:

One scene in ep 6 or is it 5 that I like about Kevin and that was when he cried as he read the blog. Reminds me of 8th prince. That was to me a good acting moment. I can imagine if Lynette is played by a more experienced actress, her devastation when Law Ba says he doesn’t want her anymore at the hospital would have been heart breaking. Just for that moment I felt Law Ba was such a jerk.

    21. P. Tan says:

Funn, I think your “Li Net” sounds correct with the emphasis on the second syllable “Net”. I’ve got a niece whose name is spelt exactly like the name in the series and it has been pronounced how I have mentioned above and it has still to be corrected.

    22. YinYang says:

Is Christine “dating” a TVB exec or something? Only reason I can think of why she would get such a big role – she can’t act, her english is terrible and her cantonese even worse. Her acting is so oevr the top….completely rubbish.
