Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) and Fala Chen (陳法拉) reportedly are not on good terms as both are vying for more screen time in Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲霄 II>. As Myolie was cast in the first series, she was promoted heavily as the first lead actress alongside with Francis Ng (吳鎮宇). However, Myolie only reprised the role of “Zoe” in two episodes of the sequel, and had little screen time with Francis. Fala, on the other hand, was cast in a love triangle with two heavy weight actors, Francis Ng and Chilam Cheung (張智霖).
Both Myolie and Fala denied rumors of their rivalry. The series producer, Tommy Leung (梁家樹) clarified that both were lead actresses, “There are no first or second lead actress, and both are lead actresses. The script is still in the midst of writing, we can’t determine the screen time by looking at just one episode, and the screen time is quite equal. The two characters are different and both are challenging roles. There are 40 episodes in the drama, and many character relationships are enticing.”
Myolie Wu: “The Role is More Important Than Screen Time
Myolie will portray two characters in Triumph in the Skies 2. Aside from Zoe, Myolie will play an aircraft technician who will have a romance with Ron Ng (吳卓羲). Myolie denied competing with Fala for more screen time and said that they got along well. She shrugged off the rumors and said, “I think it is only a talking point! There is no need to bother with it.”
Revealing about her roles in the series, Myolie expressed that it was more important to have challenging roles than more screen time. Portraying as Chilam Cheung’s sister, Myolie preferred her role than her previous role. “In the past, I acted as many outgoing characters who can bicker very well. This time, I will act as two characters. One is the “Zoe” from the first series, and the other one is a short-hair girl who is very reserved in nature. I need to express my emotions through my eyes, and it is a new challenge. I will have some relationships with Francis Ng and Ron Ng,” said Myolie.
Myolie was also not disappointed to have lesser screen time with Francis. She revealed that she would work more with Chilam instead, playing his younger sister.
Fala: “It’s Common to Have Many Lead Actors”
Fala revealed that she had not seen the entire script and was did not know the full story of Triumph in the Skies 2. Fala also mentioned that producer Au Guan Yin (歐冠英) designated the role to her, as Fala pulled out of filming Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles (名媛望族) when she fell sick.
Fala further said that it was common to have many lead actors in the series, “The entire story is written by more than 10 script writers; we can’t vie for the screen time at all! Besides, there are many series which have two siu sangs, two fadans or three siu sangs, three fadans. Some even have two or three lead actresses; there is nothing to compete. I did not fall out with Myolie at all.”
Francis reportedly was impressed with Fala when they worked together in Laughing Gor: Turning Point <Laughing Gor 之變節>, hence Fala was designated more scenes with him. Fala replied, “I don’t know. I work with Francis only a few scenes in that movie. As it was my first time filming a movie, I do not know anything. I will do my homework, and he is not dissatisfied with me at all.”
Fala also disclosed that Francis would plan his acting beforehand and able to motivate his costars easily. Fala had learned and benefited from working with Francis in Triumph in the Skies 2.
