Nancy Wu Wants to Slow Down Work to Meet the Right Man

Entering showbiz in 2001, Nancy Wu (胡定欣) portrayed many supporting characters before earning her big break. For the past two years, the 36-year-old has been filming nonstop. Perhaps because success came later in her career, the two-time TV Queen has been placing all her time and effort into her career and neglecting her love life.

Although Nancy admitted that she hopes to date, work seems to always be in the way. “You can’t rush these things! I’ve thought about it before. In the past, I thought that love and career could go hand-in-hand. But these two things both require a lot of time. Every day, I’m working all day and all night. How could I find time to date? I hope to take a break after filming Deep in the Realm of Conscience <宮心計2·深宮計> and widen my social network. Maybe I can get to know more friends.”

In addition to being at the peak of her career, Nancy seemingly is the whole package, as she also possesses a fit physique and toned body. While others may believe that she is too career-minded, Nancy she laughed, “Any female who works in this industry has to be quite strong-willed. Often, you have to take care of yourself. Perhaps people think that artistes are very strong. I’m happy that people have this impression, but I also have a girly side of me that wants to be loved. My girlfriends know that when I’m in love, I’m a very different person.”

Since she is so focused on her career and strong-willed, what type of men would attract her? “Ambition is the most important thing in a man. He must have a clear objective and be able to take care of their other half. I admire talented people too. Talent emits its own aura of attraction.”

Her parents have also begun to worry about her singlehood. “My mom asked me if I have time to meet new people. My dad is more introverted. He won’t say it aloud, but I know he’s worried and wants to know. He would ask my other family members about how I’m doing. But they understand my work situation, so they won’t directly ask me about it. My mom is very attentive. She knows how hard I work and will prepare soup for me. I try to not show my tiredness in front of them, so they won’t worry.”

In The Unholy Alliance <同盟>, Nancy was able to collaborate with good friend, Elaine Yiu (姚子羚). The duo was extremely excited about the opportunity. Nancy shared, “The last time we were in a drama together was Revolving Doors of Vengeance <酒店風雲> in 2006. This time, we even got to collaborate with our good friend, Joel Chan (陳山聰). The three of us had a very happy time working together.”

Having such a great time working with Elaine, would Nancy want to work with other members of the Nonsense Club? “All six of us could work together on a drama! Something similar to Never Dance Alone <女人俱樂部>, where it’s a story about a group of women. The six of us have too many experiences together. If we can bring it onscreen, that would be very special and unique. Although Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) [is now busy with her baby], I believe there may be a chance for this in the future.”

  1. I don’t really like the idea of having all the Nonsense Club members to act together in a drama. Filming variety show like The Sisterhood Traveling Gang is good enough to promote these group of girls and their sisterhood. Too much of it will be an exploitation of their friendship.

I would rather if TVB could invite the 5 ex-fadans; Tavia, Myolie, Linda, Kate & Fala to film a drama together. Actually it could have happened earlier if Myolie was also in Moonlight Resonance as the other four were in the series at that time. Anyway, TVB could still make it happen in the future.

    1. @diana80 Agree with you. I find the Nonsense Club members rather boring, and it’s not like I ever get particularly excited about seeing any of them in dramas… And I’m not doubting their friendship but seems like they spend a lot of time trying to show off/flaunt their friendship to others.

I would love to see a drama with 5 flowers together again. They were my favorite group.
