Ni Ni to Be Angelababy’s Maid of Honor in October Wedding

Hong Kong model/actress Angelababy (楊穎) and mainland Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming (黃曉明), who officially registered their marriage in May of this year, will hold their wedding ceremony on October 8. Mainland Chinese actress Ni Ni (倪妮), who is starring alongside Angelababy in the upcoming movie, Bride Wars <新娘大作戰>, will serve as the maid of honor.

A remake of the 2009 romantic comedy starring Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson, Bride Wars tells the story of two close friends, Mary (Ni Ni) and He Jing (Angelababy), who find out that their respective wedding ceremonies are scheduled for the very same day. The conflict leads to many embarrassing albeit hilarious events.

Recently, there have been rumors that Angelababy and Huang Xiaoming, who registered their marriage on May 27, would be hosting their wedding ceremony in October. At a recent press conference for Bride Wars, however, Angelababy kept mum when pressed for details about the ceremony, responding only that the important thing was not the date, but rather getting married to the right person.

Nevertheless, Ni Ni confirmed the October wedding date during a post-conference interview and added that she would be Angelababy’s maid of honor. She also shared that when Angelababy invited her to take on the role, Ni Ni was initially unsure of what she was supposed to do as a maid of honor.

Due to the tragic explosion in Tianjin, the Bride Wars press conference was cut short in order to devote time to sending blessings to the explosion victims. In addition, director Tony Chan (陳國輝) and the cast wore black clothing to the event.

Mainland Chinese actor Chen Xiao (陳曉), who plays Angelababy’s fiancé in the film, was even overcome with tears during the press conference. He shared that he had actually been filming in Tianjin not long ago, and the hotel he had stayed at was not far from the explosion site.

Bride Wars opens in theaters on August 20, the date of the Qixi Festival, which is sometimes called Chinese Valentine’s Day.

    1. @m0m0 agreed. I find it odd why Angela would request a current coworker to be her moh. Doesn’t she have any close girl friends?

  1. That is an unkind comment and uncalled for.

Many Chinese are only child in the family so Ni Ni is like a sister to Angelababy. Every bride has a right to choose her maid of honour and I don’t see any issues with it.

  2. People, please. These are celebrities – their very job exist so that we, the audience, the consumers, the patrons will buy them. Buy their image, their talent, their looks, their everything. If we don’t find them good looking, we can voice that. They signed themselves up for scrutiny the moment they decide to be actors or actresses and models. This is another story if these ppl didn’t request to be in the spotlight.

If they can’t deal with it, they wouldn’t even be in this industry.

There’s no excuse for verbal bullying and abuse if celebrities don’t fit the fan’s inflated image of beauty. Many of the acclaimed actresses/actors in the world are not perfect in appearance but they are respected. However, in Asia perfect looks seem to have higher priority than talent.

      1. @msxie0714 how is this verbal bullying? the first comment only said that she doesn’t find AB to be as pretty as Ni Ni. this is her opinion and her view. do you think everyone should never voice out their negative opinions of others?

like i said, the moment they signed up for this job (modeling), they should’ve been mentally/emotionally prepared for criticism. especially modeling – which is entirely dependent upon looks & figure.

i’m much less critical on artists, like people who base their career on acting, not modeling. because merit is based on their skills, not on their looks.
