Nicholas Tse and Nicky Wu to Train Upcoming Chinese Girl Group On Reality TV

Former idol singers Nicholas Tse (谢霆锋) and Nicky Wu (吴奇隆) will be putting their experiences to the test in the upcoming Chinese reality television series Lady Bees <蜜蜂少女队>, a girl group survival show produced by Zhejiang TV.

Although Mainland China’s music industry has grown immensely over the years, it still lacks successful local-groomed girl groups. Many Chinese girl groups that have debuted in the last two decades failed to emulate the successes of Taiwan’s S.H.E and Hong Kong’s Twins. Although local idol group SNH48 has gained public interest in recent years, they are considered to be the sister group of Japan’s top idol group AKB48. With the introduction of K-pop groups such as Girls’ Generation and f(x), Mainland China faces competition from South Korea as well. Lady Bees hopes to produce a genuine Chinese girl group for the Chinese audiences.

In the reality show, which will be filmed in Shanghai in February, Nicholas and Nicky are each assigned to mentor their own team of female trainees, which will be selected from a nation-wide casting audition. The winning team will get the opportunity to debut in a Chinese idol girl group.

The girls will be drilled in singing, acting, performance, and more. Nicky, a former member of the pop trio Little Tigers and Nicholas, a former idol singer himself, will be training the girls into charismatic stage performers. In the last episode, judges will grade the progress of each team, and the winning team will have the opportunity to debut as a Lady Bees member.
