Nicholas Tse Revealed He Had Skin Tumor

On an episode of the TVB talk show, The Best Actor <最佳男主角> which aired on October 23, Nicholas Tse (謝霆鋒) revealed he discovered a black mole on his head during the filming of Bodyguards and Assassins <十月圍城>. However, he did not have it examined by a doctor.  His manager, Mani Fok (霍汶希) took him to see a doctor immediately, in which it was doctor diagnosed that Nicholas had a benign skin tumor. The tumor was removed successfully.

Nicholas shared his recent health scare with Luisa Lai (黎芷珊), the host of The Best Actor. “I noticed a black mole a few years ago when I had to shave my head for Bodyguards and Assassins. A few months ago, the mole was getting bigger and Mani took me to a doctor, in which it was diagnosed it as a skin tumor.” The mole was removed but the operation left him with a 5 centimeter scar on his scalp.

Nicholas also mentioned his mother accompanied him when he went to undergo surgery at the Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital. His father, Patrick Tse (謝霆鋒), knew nothing about his son’s condition. Nicholas was seen wearing a cap during the EEG anniversary dinner in September, perhaps to hide his scar.

Nicholas, wearing a cap and sunglasses, was spotted with Patrick Tse at the Hong Kong International Airport. Nicholas appeared to be in a good mood and told the reporter, “My health is okay; I already told everyone that I am fine during the interview.”

When asked whether he wore a cap to hide the scar, Nicholas shook his head. Smiling, he  explained, “The reason for the hat is because I cut my hair short. I didn’t tell my dad about my condition because it wasn’t that serious and didn’t want to scare him.” Nicholas confirmed there is no need for further procedures. He also admitted that he was in shock when he first heard about the tumor.

Nicholas also revealed that his ex-wife, Cecilia Cheung (張柏芝) knew about his illness a while ago. Cecilia was very optimistic, and even jokingly said to him, “God will not let a jerk die so soon!”

Many fans were worried about Nicholas’ condition since he admitted he had a skin tumor. Mani, his manager, said it was a good thing that the growth was discovered early. She also reassured the media that Nicholas is okay and would like to thank everyone for their concern.

  2. 5 cm deep or in length? People who have tumors are at high risk of developing cancer. He needs to quit smoking and start wearing sunblock.

  3. I agree with you and from now on he should certainly have frequent checks on his moles. Some can be very deadly.

  4. Those moles can be deadly if not treated or discovered early. Glad that he is ok.

  5. Highly inappropriate for Cecilia to make that remark, whether in jest or not!

  6. Lance – there is a typo with the father’s chinese name – Patrick Tse (謝霆鋒)..

    1. Melanoma is a malignant (cancerous) tumor. Nic has benign (non-cancerous) tumor.
