Former child star, Leila Tong Ning married theater director, Tang Wai Kit, in October 2010. [Leila’s sudden wedding announcement prompted many people to wonder whether she was pregnant at the time.] Yesterday, Leila was spotted with a protruding belly on a dinner date with her husband in the Hung Hom district.
With the advent of the cold weather, Leila wore many layers and a wool coat. Despite this, her outfit could not mask her growing belly, swollen ankles and rounded figure. During dinner, Leila and her husband were engaged in an animated conversation. Toensure that she will have a fat baby, Leila ate non-stop. She did not pay attention to the taboo of drinking iced lemon water during her pregnancy.
When reporters approached Leila to ask whether she was carrying a girl or boy, she smiled sweetly and said, “I will not answer!” Asked what supplements she was taking in her diet, she laughed off the question and used her scarf and purse to cover her belly. Leila and her husband quickly left the scene.

Perhaps the report saw her ankles when she was sitting down while eating. The article talks about how she and her husband had animated conversation and she ate non-stop, so must have been there to witness it.
I still wonder why she has to hide the fact that she is pregnant?? What is the big deal?? People will just congratulate and be happy for her so I wonder what she is scared of?? If she just wants 100% privacy,I am sorry but once you enter the circle you will never get that..
Maybe it’s not so much to do with privacy but traditional beliefs? I know that for many Asians especially Chinese, they don’t like revealing their pregnancy until after the 1st trimester at least because they want to wait until after the fetus is stable.. It’s like how older people believe that the baby is very ‘xiao qi’ and you usually have to say the opposite thing in front of the baby.
OH yea, I forgot about that.. Thanks for reminding me CY. My family believes in that too. However, they do share the news with family and then with everyone else after the first trimester.

Haha, you are welcome. I only just remembered that fact when I wrote the comment because let’s face it, this is not something people usually think about unless they themselves are pregnant..
And also since she is from the entertainment circle, it might just be good sense to wait until both the mother and baby are stable before announcing the pregnancy because I’m sure the press will hound them even more after that and will lead to more stress for the mother and by extension the child. That can’t be good for the pregnancy especially in its early phase.
I’m glad for Leila Tong and her husband. Hope they have a strong, healthy baby. Congatulations to the happy couple!
