Raymond Lam and Charmaine Sheh Reunite in “The Apostle”

After catching a brief break over Lunar New Year weekend, Raymond Lam (林峯) and Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) are back in the studio to film crime thriller The Apostle <使徒行者>.

Playing opposing undercover informants who hide their true purpose behind a veil of romance, both Raymond and Charmaine are excited about their refreshing roles and are happy to take on the challenge. The pair last collaborated in 2011’s My Sister of Eternal Flower <花花世界花家姐>, and since then Charmaine took her career to China while Raymond faded from the TV screen. As one of TVB’s more popular on-screen pairings, their reunion this year will hopefully generate the ratings boost that the company is trying so hard to achieve.

Coming back after a year-long absence, Raymond feels disoriented on-set though will get used to the process again in no time. Since his relationship with Karena Ng (吳千語) was exposed in early 2013, he has been chastised for pouring all of his energy into love and neglecting his work. Perhaps love is now truly his top priority; Raymond spent his three-day Lunar New Year holiday with Karena in Japan instead of with his family. Before anyone starts to complain however, he noted that his parents were too busy greeting new year visitors to care and reassured that he and his girlfriend have both phoned home to give holiday blessings.

Although she is single and could not ring in the new year with a romantic getaway, Charmaine is all smiles on today after winning family dice games three days in a row. Suffering from a slipped spinal disc in November that led to numbing and limb pain, she has been carefully resting and committed herself to physical therapy in order to film The Apostle on schedule. Nearly recovered, Charmaine is happy to be on set of her major TVB comeback and will exercise precaution when filming any intense action sequences.

  1. Raymond looks really aged in the above pic. More well suited with Charmaine now.

    1. no worries. He’ll just get more cosmetic surgery done to his already plastic face.

      1. Bosco, Ruco, Kevin, and Ron are more handsome than him. He looks like a 45 year man in this photo, very ugly.

  2. Yea,he does and he is filming this series after all. I miss seeing him in a TVB series but wished that it was an ancient series instead.

    1. He really sucks. Acting needs major improvement and all he does know is flirt with his girl. Terrible actor.

      1. Buck off peter , u r an obvious hater.wander who is your idol?peter bewareu had been tagged

      2. I totally agree with the acting part. I am not a hater of Ray cause I use to like him when he was still filming a lot of those ancient dramas but a few years ago, even before his girlfriends, I thought his acting was going down hill. I still miss his old dramas and acting. His singing is even worse. Went more downhill than his acting, but he use to sing sooooooooo well. He’s just waiting to retire now, but do no want to run family business which is more work for him since he doesn’t like doin business plus it’s a big responsibility.

      3. I used to like Raymond Lam’s voice in the past, but not as much now. He sings in a different style which may suit the people of Hong Kong, but not me. Every time when he takes a breath, I can hear it. It was not like that before.

      4. “His singing is even worse. Went more downhill than his acting”

Maybe somewhere along the way, he start relying too much on technology (ear piece to give him music/lyrics, synthesis to improve his recordings, etc.). And, all he does is lip sync at concerts. So, he seriously sucks at “live” singing (without his ear piece) as shown at the JSG Music Awards. haha 🙂

      5. As for you YanYanKong, from years ago we all know who you are, then don’t need to act like an old fan.

      6. raymond is just one chunck luck all the time he is born in a rich family and then enter tvb with many support from managers not that he is super talented or something but just luck help him all the time and his singing is just average and then become a poupular singer with many fans that helps him boost his career he just born well and nothing else than that.

      7. I don’t get what you mean, Fox. And I think what MW means about the lip syncing is the back up music and singing is purposely tuned louder so that it can cover up his live singing a bit in case he goes off key or forget’s lyrics. It’s more obvious in his fast dancing songs, just like live K-pop. Not a very good habit of his. He really needs to work on his singing skills again and get more fit.

      8. @YanYanKong: It’s pretty annoying to see “Oh I used to like A or B or C but no more” in most of your posts.

        Here is lipsync: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lip_sync

The backup singing isn’t lipsync, for any mean. And if MW wanna mean back up music, s/he wrote wrongly.

For backup music,it exists in any concert. I watched Eason’s concert and that backup music was used. In his concert, LF sang with right keys when dancing, and it tells about his live singing ability. Some like Show Luo usually stops singing when dancing. For ballads, do you have an example of him to use loudly backup music to cover his live?

Moreover, LF often dun cover when he sang wrong lyrics. He just kept singing. Singing off-key is rare in his concerts, if you watch them.

And he is still training his singing techniques. In the past he can’t go low key well but it is fixed well now. Fit? Lolz, I find your suggestion is needed to the guy(s) you always praise to sky (for both of singing and fit).

      9. Fans don’t come from nowhere. If he really has nothing, he can’t capture a huge number of fans. Same apply to others.

      10. I don’t think Raymond Lam lipsyncs… If he didn’t do it when he is sick, he wouldn’t do it if he’s feeling healthy enough to sing..

“Unfortunately, Raymond was ill and was unable to perform since he lost his voice. Raymond said: “My voice was so hoarse that I lost it. I don’t want to lip sync, so I rather not sing at all! I just got off the stage right after the award was presented. ”

      11. Fans don’t come from nowhere. If he really has nothing, he can’t capture a huge number of fans. Same apply to others.

^ Agree. Fans come and go.
If a fan wasn’t happy with an artiste, they will stop supporting them or vice versa. It was only 2 years ago (after the whole Chok thing ended and when he started to sound back like the original Raymond Lam) when I started listening to Raymond Lam again.. Before that, it was zero interaction..

      12. Does LF ever sing without all that background sound support (or whatever it’s called) (like Joey Yung, Alfred Hui at JSG Music Awards)? Hmmm…

      13. That’s not lipsyncing though.
If using an earphone, technical stuff is lipsyncing, then A LOT OF SINGERS would fall into that category.

And if it’s strictly voice without any instrumental counterpart (I think that’s what you’re saying.. ), that’s A cappella. Most singers use earphones/headphones to hear themselves sing, to make sure they don’t go out of tune… Eg. The X Factor contestants uses headphones as well (not to hear the lyrics, but to make sure they don’t go out of tune…)

Every singer uses it. But that’s not lipsyncing. Lipsyncing is basically matching lip movements with sung or spoken vocals. But Raymond lam doesn’t uses that. He messed up, he admitted. If it was a lipsync, it would sound perfect. People tend to think he lipsync because it’s close to the cd version or whatnot.. But some singers can sound the same on CD and live. 🙂

      14. But of course there are some singers (eg. Hacken Lee) who do not use ear monitors. But depending on how loud their fans can get, it may be required to monitor the music and or vocals so they can hear what ever they need to hear on stage.

      15. At the JSG Music Awards, all of the winners can sing without supercharged karaoke style background sound support. I’m not talking about concerts here.

      16. But either way MW, it’s not lipsyncing. And it depends on the venue and the capacity of people inside that venue. Like, for example, during JSG, G.E.M Tang and the other singers at JSG didn’t use any in-ear earphones (probably because the venue is small and wasn’t needed) but when she performed on the stage of I am a Singer 2 (larger venue..), she used in-ear earphones.

There are times when Raymond Lam doesn’t use it…
        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQOShubI7zg ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tRZEND9xZY ;

And then there are times where Raymond Lam did use it:
        http://youtu.be/_n8Mi8BVMB0 ; http://youtu.be/JPEovw3X8pY (JSG) .

Same thing with Joey and all the other singers (eg. Alfred Hui, G.E.M Tang, Linda Chung). There are times when they also uses IEM (in ear monitors).. So if you were fair and not biased towards Raymond Lam and saying that HE LIPSYNCS at his concerts and SUCKS at singing live (due to him using the technology, forgetting the lyrics, etc..), most singers, not just Raymond Lam, would fall into your category of lipsyncing because most of them do use in-ear earphones or rely on technolgy (aka what you’re calling to be supercharged karaoke style) but they use it to make sure:
        – they’re not going off tune
        – they can hear themselves sing
        – a high level of noise reduction from ambient surroundings.

But of course, sometimes the in-ear monitors isn’t working and can cause problems. Eg. Demi Lovato and her performance on X Factor but if you listen to her live performances, she sounds relatively the same..

      17. Why do performers use “personal monitors” when they sing? I found the following on Google:

“When you watch a performance on stage…

… you will see that the singers are behind the main speakers typically, and these speakers are aimed out at the audience so they can’t hear what the audience hears. In addition, especially in huge venues (a la Shea Stadium), sound bounces back to the stage but is slightly delayed, making it confusing to the singer and the band. Plus, the amplified instruments may make it hard to hear your own voice, or you may need a “click” (like a type of metronome), or you may have other reasons to hear just your own voice or to hear the music directly.

        .

It used to be that there would be a separate set of smaller speakers turned back towards the performer so they could hear what sounds they are making at the time they are making them. These speakers were called monitors or stage monitors. Some bands still use these, but there are some long-standing problems with them.

        .

Nowadays, many performers use “personal monitors” in the form of ear pieces. The ear piece can both feed the sound back in to the singer so he/she can hear what they and the band are doing as well as provide cues for special effects so common in today’s high tech performances. This in-ear wireless monitor is particularly useful in that so many performers also dance or move around the stage a great deal today so the sound from a stage monitor would change, depending on where the performer is but the in-ear form remains constant.”

    1. yeah me too,i rather see louis ko coming back and paired up with natalie tong.

      1. I missed Louis / Jessica pairing in DIF5. I think they had such great chemistry together. Hated tat ending

    2. I do not mind who is paired with who as long the story/ plot and script is good. There is more to any series than the cast or leading couple.

      1. Yes…and no.
A great script can easily be ruined by weak casting, and vice versa.

To be fair to tvb, some of their scripts/concepts are serviceable…if they had casted different people. Or improved production, but its tvb we’re talking bout here.

Still, unoriginal as Charray is, I like them together onscreen. Hopefully writing and secondary cast won’t ruin it for me.

      2. i mind, the lead-couple is the soul of the story. even if there is a good story/plot i would skip the the drama when the lead-couple dont attract me enough. imagine if ruco’s character in brothers keeper was played by jason chan, then i think would had stopped watching it after a few episodes.

      3. True to some extent but to me a good plot and script is like the skeleton of a series and carries you through. But that is just how I feel and think after years and years of watching series.

      4. A good storyline is still the most important factor to me in a good drama series, then acting and artistes.

      5. @sancherry,
You and I have the same thoughts. I used to blindly go just for the casts too,but then I discovered how much more important the story/plot and script are. I constantly see die hard fans just go for their favorite actors and actresses or favorite pairings just to complain about how bad a series is due to the plot /story. I have seen that in sooo many cases, but yet they still blindly go for the cast just to whine about it after seeing any series. Of course, I do not think that the cast is not important but to me is not as important as the storyline/ plot and other factors. Having a great story is the most important to me and of course having a good cast is a big plus too.

      6. HeTieShou
Totally agree with you. A good (or even decent) artiste will shine in a well-written storyline, and becomes popular after the airing of a good drama series. However, a good artiste will not shine in a poorly-written script.

        Some examples are:

        1) Sheren Tang and/or Ada Choi did not get well recognized in a poorly-written script of “Beauty of War”.

        2) Kristal Tin shone in a well-written character, Ah Ying in “Brother’s Keeper”. As a result, she won both “Best Actress” award and “Most Favourite Female Character” award.

Therefore, a good script will make an artiste shine and a good artiste will NOT make a drama series successful.

      7. Sandcherry,
Very well said and you cited some good examples. The artists rely on the well written scripts and story lines in order to shine. I have seen talented artists not shine due to a poorly written script and storyline as you mentioned with War and Beauty 2. A good artist may attract the die hard fans that will see anything they are casted in. But whether they will like the drama or not is a different story.

      8. Absolutely correct.

Wayne Lai might still be a supporting actor if he did not get his custom-made character, Chai Gou, in “Rosy Business”, and then Lau Sing in “No Regrets”. No matter how good Wayne’s acting was, he still needed some good characters and good scripts to shine.

      9. Another example:

Due to a poorly-written script of “Bullet Brain”, Wayne Lai (a 3-time TV King) was heavily criticized in his character/acting.

      10. to me a good story and good actors are even important, lets compare it with a song. if a well written song has performed by a bad singer then the song will not come alive, because the singer is the soul of the song.if the song is bad then even a top class singer would not help.

      11. A song is slightly different. Personally, I think 1) a good song needs good melodies, 2) a good voice, and 3) good lyrics. A song is usually performed by one singer, but a good storyline is performed by a group of artistes. One (good) performer will not make a script (a drama series) successful.

      12. Well said Sandcherry and it is really different with singing than with acting. A song can still be sung by several people, but with a song sung by many people those that are weaker can hide their weaknesses. But with acting, you cannot really hide it in that way. Also with acting, several people are involved and each of their performances are more apparent. Basically with singing and acting it is different so I do not think it is really valid to compare them like that.

  3. Interesting. What do we have here, same pairing. Wonder what happened to being ‘bored’ of the same pairing.

    1. Uh, I think Charray was paired up less times than Ron and Kate.

      1. I love seeing Charray together though.. I don’t get tired of seeing them. They always have a unique storyline (although sometimes too good to be true)..

As for Ron and Kate, I also like this pairing!

      2. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of Ron and Kate unless the storyline is the same for each drama they are in. Ron and Kate just have such amazing chemistry, it’s always so refreshing to see them, onscreen or off.

      1. well that’s ur opinion. people in mid 40 dont really look that young. you’re such a hater.

      1. It’s not a crime but it’s f-annoying that he brings up his “relationship” with her EVERY SINGLE time. Same with that girl, they want attention and constantly bug readers. They need to sit with TVB Management and talk about toning down their “public affection towards each other” because they’re very annoying.

      2. Why are people saying its a that a crime? POINTLESS! They are in the public eye. Get use to the haters every freaken article about LF. LF fans, geez.

    1. “Before anyone starts to complain however, he noted that his parents were too busy greeting new year visitors to care”

Yep, good way to avoid marriage questions by taking a trip.

      1. Besides, isn’t Rocky (the one with brains) home now after graduating? So, why would the parents care? haha 🙂

      2. Talk about being a bad son, spending time with a girl rather than his parents. Such a hypocrite when he said he wanted to “spend more time with his family.” Ugly on the inside and outside.

    2. They ALWAYS WASTE money, that’s all they do!! I am sick of reading their news, hope he disappears from TVB next year. Flirt with your BB in Japan lol.

      1. Well, LF needs to find time for “sex” somehow. “Sex” is waaaaaay more important than being with parents/family for the non-filial.

      2. peter, thats called “work hard play hard”.if i have the chance to earn millions like lam fung then i would probably do the same as him. life is short do what you want to do before its too late.

  4. “Coming back after a year-long absence, Raymond feels disoriented on-set…”,
“…..he has been chastised for pouring all of his energy into love and neglecting his work….”

Whoever wrote it, thinks or says that must have not checked all the facts or have selective memory… LF was in China for most of 2013 filming several tv series, with only one 紫釵奇緣 “Love in the Purple/Legend of the Purple Hairpin” airing late at night on TVB last year. AND his held awesome concerts in HK, China and USA.

Glad LF and KN got away for a few days of well deserved private time! “Hello Babies” 六福喜事 was a fun and entertaining movie! Looking forward to the next LF tv series. LF Love FUNG ❤️

      1. hmm, I wouldn’t watch it because he’s in there. I am looking forward to seeing Charmaine though.

  5. I like them both but I wouldn’t consider them as one of TVB’s most popular couples. I don’t know why they don’t put Raymond with Linda again, or Charmaine with Chilam… those were very popular couples.

    1. Probably because plastic Raymond had temper problems and rejected working with Linda?? That was how he turned down the short movie collaboration with Charmaine. He wanted more time to shop with his BB and just slacks off from work. What a un-professional actor, irresponsible!

      1. LMAO~, how can you know he really rejected the short movie? If he didn’t want to work with Charmaine, why he accepted this series with Charmaine? Make some sense.

      2. Peter, what a irresponsible speaker you are? do you have a fact to prove that Raymond really turned down the short movie with Charmaine? it would be a lot of reason, maybe it is TVB’s top management decision! it would be Raymond has other job in China!

      3. No prove but he didn’t deny that he rejected filming with Charmaine. During the time he was suppose to be in Singapore, he was partying with that gold digger in HK/Japan. Talk about having no work ethics lol.

      4. Well, fact that he denied FYI. Look like you missed many things.

  6. And, people said he wanted “a low profile” relationship but yet he talks about spending with time her rather than with his family. What a d-bag. That double-faced man.

    1. Before anyone starts to complain however, he noted that his parents were too busy greeting new year visitors to care and reassured that he and his girlfriend have both phoned home to give holiday blessings.

  7. Peter:
if you don’t like raymond or have nothing better to say…then leave please. you are so annoying and you sounds so immature.

ps. raymond looks cute and i can’t wait to see him! love his acting.

      1. how would raymond lam look cute in that pic???????i think fred cheng is cute
not raymond lam…………he just looks exactly like my dad like he wears the outfit……..

      1. Is that what people mean when they call Kenneth, “BB” ?

    1. okay………..but he’s acting is okay to me but not too good (is my comment for this)but love when raymond lam is with charmaine for acting of tv shows………

  8. On the way he turned down filming txb mini movie right before CNY starts i knew he was up to something. He was originally cast for that mini movie, but later replaced by Kenneth. Now I know why…

    1. Reportedly, he was with her in Japan and HK Island shopping. He’s very addicted to love right now and that will inevitably make him less and less popular.

  9. I real age, Charmaine Sheh is older than Raymond Lam, but she looks young in the above photo to match the actual age of Raymond in “The Apostle”.

  10. wow………….great for karena ng and raymond lam can get to go to japan with his family i really wanted to go to japan
for a holidays with my BFF”S but didn’t have a chance to go there…..:( plus i would like to say is that is i hope this show would be great……….

  11. Ugly, Raymond sicko again! Terrible actor, singer, and lust hooker.

  12. I’ll post this again for people to read. GET OUT Raymond Lam and Gold Digger Ng!

They are SO ANNOYING and constantly bugging me, especially this girl, what a gold digger! Total disgrace to Hong Konger women, acting like a chicken to get attention and money.

As for Raymond sicko.. Plastic, lust, ugly, fake, untalented, and unprofessional man. He gave brides to TVB Management to secure a “siu sheng” spot in 2002, undergo plastic surgery to look more handsome, sings off tune on performances, forgets his lyrics on JSG, rejects acting in TVB dramas, and on top of that constantly annoys readers by flirting with Gold Digger Ng in public. All these flaws and discrepancies are enough for me to condemn him here.

    Raymond Lam – GET OUT

Gold Digger Ng – Go find a coff.

    1. Raymond Lam doesn’t need to get out anymore and since you don’t him just leave alone.

      1. agree…maybe LF is not your favor actor, you don’t need to bad mouth other people! whether his girl friend is “Gold Digger” or not, it is too early to tell! it is not a report come out with figure and prove that how much she has dig! so you can’t say she is a gold digger! yes, they went to travel a few times….so what…most of HK people go travel many time a year! not to mention they are more wealth than most of HK people, so it is normal that they go for trips and buy some expensive stuff!

      2. I don’t consider their relationship to be healthy at all. It’s built entirely on money.

    2. Not nice to say bad about others, Peter
God have mercy and bless you.

  13. I would rather to see Kevin Cheng more than Raymond Lam starring with Charmaine Sheh…

    1. Yes, me too. I never got Raymond Lam and increasingly disliked him after his highly profiled date with Karena Ng. I just wish he leaves TVB soon.
