  • Raymond Lam to Dominate Music, TV, and Film in 2011

    By on December 20, 2010

Raymond Lam to Dominate Music, TV, and Film in 2011 thumbnail

Targeting the music, television, and film industries simultaneously this year, Raymond Lam Fung will continue to focus on all three markets in 2011. Holding concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum for two years straight, Raymond will have another concert there this summer. Accepting a role in the eighty-four-episode mainland series, Advertisement Storm <廣告風雲> and TVB’s Back to the Three Kingdoms <回到三國>, Raymond likely earned over $10 million (HKD) and has become a TVB cash king.

Asia-Pacific’s Most Popular Male Singer, Raymond Lam, is favored by TVB and greatly loved fans.  Due to his focus on the music, television, and film market, Raymond was everywhere this year, perhaps even overshadowing Andy Lau Tak Wah. Since popularity also attracts a greater amount of rumors, Raymond has managed to survive amidst controversy and will continue to target all three markets.

In the music industry for only three years, Raymond held concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum in the past two years. He will hold another concert this year, with a minimum of three performances. Both TVB and Raymond’s company, EEG, expressed confidence in him. Through a text message, TVB executive, Virginia Lok Yi Ling, acknowledged that Raymond will be having a concert this summer.

In February 2011, Raymond will hold a concert tour in Singapore and Malaysia . In March, he will film TVB series, Back to the Three Kingdoms with Tavia Yeung Yi and Ron Ng Cheuk Hei. The series depicts Ron stepping in a time warp into the era of the Three Kingdoms while playing video games. Raymond’s new film, Legend of White Snake <白蛇傳說>will be released in the second half of 2011.

Raymond is currently filming Advertisement Storm in Shanghai with Joe Mak Tak Chung and Tang Yan. The eighty-four episode series will be filmed in three seasonal installments. The first installment, comprising of twenty-four episodes, is currently filming. The second installment will be filmed in the fall. From a conservative estimate, Raymond likely earned $10 million (HKD) and became a TVB cash king!

Jayne: Sounds like another unhealthily busy year for Raymond Lam! But it would be nice to see Raymond star with Ron and Tavia again!

    1. Masaharu says:

I’m surprised by the length of the TV serial made by the mainland company. I feel that it’s following the US TV shows format of having seasonal screenings. This advertisement series must be a huge production.

Is Joe Ma still with TVB? To me he’s decent in certain type of characters, but he lacks screen presence or that charismatic charisma.

    2. Kidd says:

Joe is very charismatic when playing someone in power (Fu Chai in The Conqueror’s Story) or a businessman (Martin in Revolving Doors of Vengence).

    3. Masaharu says:

Joe is very charismatic when playing someone in power (Fu Chai in The Conqueror’s Story) or a businessman (Martin in Revolving Doors of Vengence)

Yeah he’s quite good when he’s required to be autocratic but I found him faltering in dramas such as Drive of Life, Suspects of Love, and everytime he’s costarring with Jessica Hsuan.

    4. Funn Lim says:

      Joe Ma?

      zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    5. Jayne says:

I liked Joe Ma in “Revolving Doors of Vengeance” best. Rumor has it that he will be leaving TVB? 2010 seemed like such a quiet year for him, very little press….

Did Raymond Lam join the cast of “Back to the Three Kingdoms” to give the series an extra push? Sounds like Tavia will play Fala’s role? And is Steven Ma still in this?

    6. Kidd says:

The cast list of the series so far is Ron, Ray and Tavia. I wonder what role Raymond will play. Him playing Kwan Yu will be quite unconvicing given is current physical built.

    7. Funn Lim says:

      Who’s Tavia and Ron playing?

      • Kidd says:

According to the TVB sales presentation for this series, Ron played someone from modern time who was transported back to 3 Kingdom Era, or the game world of 3 kingdom. In the sales presentation, there were no Tavia or Raymond. Fala and Steven Ma were in it instead. Steven Ma played Kwan Yu. Fala played another gamer who was also sucked into the 3 Kingdom world.

        • Funn Lim says:

what?! I love Steven Ma but he as Kwan Yu? As in our man Kwan Gung himself? NO! NO! NO! He should be Zhugeliang unless this is before Zhugeliang and I think it is since Zhugeliang only come into the picture years later. NOOOOOOOOO!!!

        • seraphiclynn says:

Yes, i saw that advertisement too!! I hope Steven Ma remains in the series =( He looked and acted quite well in the sales presentation. I would prefer him in that role than Raymond. I think the role would benefit from the maturity of Steven.

Am I the only one who is of this opinion?

        • Kidd says:

          @ Funn,

If the storyline follows the sales presentation, the timeline in history wouldn’t matter. According to the sale presentation, Ron fell into the game world of 3 Kingdom. He was playing online game. In the game, he took away Kwan Yu’s sabre and hid it in Chou Chou’s camp. Suddenly, there’s thunder and lightning and he got zapped into the 3 Kingdom world in the middle of a battle. He saw Kwan Yu fighting and Kwan Yu’s sabre suddenly disappeared.

    8. Alec Nguyen says:

Maybe Joe Ma is still in TVB because he will work with Jessica in January.

    9. Kidd says:

TVB should really arrange time for Raymond to film a Lee Tim Shing series. Lee Tim Shing has wanted Raymond Lam for FOS and then for his new series, but, fail. Let’s hope TVB can fulfill this wish of him before he retires.

Since Lee Tim Shing is a hot producer now and his series are usually well-deceived, it’s beneficial to Raymond also.

      • advo says:

Agree. I had high expectations for Kingdoms because of the sales presentation cast but the attached producer is the same as MOL *yikes*. The other drama he has next year is Sister Fa… and I don’t think many has high expectations for that show.

        • Kidd says:

When I first know that Lau Ka Hou is the producer, I also has my doubt. But, I check his other works beside the recent ones, and saw that his resume is not that bad. He actually has some good series under his name too, though they are mainly from last decade.

          His older series:
          The Key Man 巨人
The Edge of the Righteousness 龍兄鼠弟
          Down Memory Lane 萬里長情
          The Gentle Crackdown 秀才遇著兵

So, hopefully, 3 Kingdom can be good.

Sister Fa is quite silly. Really can’t accept his character loving Charmaine’s character who speak, act and think like a 10 year old (based on the sales presentation) or actually even below 10 since 10 years old is very smart now.

        • Funn Lim says:

I suppose what his character loves is innocence. Shoot me if you like but to me even if she’s an adult but with a mental capacity of 10, in real life, I would see Ray’s character as a paedophile, at least mentally. The line is very difficult to draw. I am sure it happens in real life. But again prejudice isn’t it? It is ok for Ah Wong and 2 women to fight over him but not ok for 1 girl with 1 guy loving her. Depends on what sort of love. Imagine in real life that love turns sexual. What then do you call such a relationship? A woman with the mental capacity of a child with a man with the mental capacity of a. adult.

        • Kidd says:

          @ Funn

Jessica actually requested the script of Square Peg 2 to be changed. The initially ending has Jessica marrying Ah Wong. But, Jessica felt that this is unacceptable in the modern era. So, she requested the ending to be changed to a more ambiguous.

Regarding this issue, Jessica says “it should not be said that I forced the producer to change the ending, but more as a result of discussion. LMS is a story set in modern times. Even a normal person will not marry Ah Wong. Other than myself who cannot accept this, I also feel that the audience will also not be able to accept it. What I feel towards Ah Wong is not love between a man and a woman but the concern that exists between friends. Whatever it is, I just oppose to the marriage of Ah Wong and Lor Poh Jai.”

      • advo says:

Hmm, I just remembered – isn’t Lee Tim Shing on Catherine’s side? Raymond films mostly for Tommy Leung’s side, right?

      • Masaharu says:

Mr Lee Tim Shing might be able to make Back to the Three Kingdoms an epic production if he’s the producer.

Yeah it will be beneficial for Raymond if he’s in Lee Tim Shing production.

Which side of Head of Producers is Lau Kar Ho is in? If Raymond Lam can film for Lau Kar Ho I don’t think he’s out of reach for Lee Tim Shing.

    10. Fox says:

Yes, Lam Fung is on Tommy Leung’s side.

Lee Tim Shing is on Cat’s side.

    11. M1RACLE says:

As much as fans and executives love him, I think he’ll experience a severe backlash soon. That’s what happened to the US sitcom, Friends. The actors from that show began to experience a backlash from all the sudden appearances in everything from commercials to being on TV. As much as I think he’s quite good looking and a pretty darn good singer, I don’t see him as Best Actor (that all executives want him to be..).

    12. jayzemine says:

regardless of what role each of them will play I still look forward to the collaboration of Tavia, Raymond, and Ron.

    13. Jane says:

I can’t wait to see Back to Three Kingdoms….can’t wait to see Tavia Yeung with Raymond Lam along with Ron Ng……YEAH….i thought HK stars would make more money….but it’s only around 1.6 billion a year US dollars

    14. Dusa says:

I wonder if Raymond lam is gay?!?!? I hope not. They always say he’s busy with projects but I wonder if he really doesn’t have time for girls. I mean guys are horny.

    15. xoxoJess says:

I am so glad the cast is Raymond and Tavia because they are my favorite TVB couple. I really hope that as characters, Raymond will end up with Tavia. It looked like it was Ron and Fala, the two gamers, who became lovers in the sales presentation. Can’t wait for March to come!
