Ron Ng (吳卓羲) and Viann Zhang’s (張馨予) relationship was rumored to have ended recently. Viann left a series of unhappy messages on her blog, citing the need to let go despite heartache. When the public speculated that Ron and Viann’s romance had burned out, Ron proved the pessimists to be wrong once again! For the first time, he admitted to currently dating Viann and asked for the public’s support.
It was rumored that Viann was a possessive girlfriend and desired Ron to publicly acknowledge their dating relationship. This allegedly caused the couple to frequently argue. Viann was also easily angered by Ron’s fans’ frequent attacks in the Weibo community, in which Ron had to step in to stop the flames.
Ron Asks for Fans’ Blessings
In his Weibo post, Ron wrote, “Thank you everyone for your concern. To avoid inaccurate speculations over recent news regarding my love life, I only wish to state that we are currently very happy together. Nothing has changed.”
Ron added, “Dating is a common place thing. I hope everyone supports and understands [me]. After issuing my statement this time, I will no longer respond again regarding my love life. Thanks.”
Fans’ Polarized Reactions
Fans were shocked by Ron’s message, which granted status to Viann as his girlfriend. Fans asked if Ron had written the message himself or whether Viann had logged into his account to write the message in his name.
One fan wrote, “You (Ron) did not write this! You are going to wreck your career by saying this! And all for that woman! You need to reconsider!”
An angry netizen wrote, “I think the damn woman must be gloating now! I do not know if Ron is blind! I’m so upset!”
Numerous fans were unwilling to accept Viann due to her racy past. One netizen wrote, “She cannot measure up to you! Anyway, I will send my blessings. If you were to break up, I will send even greater blessings!” Many netizens urged that Ron can easily find a better girlfriend at TVB.
Despite fans’ angry retorts, there were also understanding messages of acceptance. One netizen said, “Viann Zhang is a beautiful woman. In youth, who has never been wild before? Do not mind her past. Don’t we all fall for an illusion and then to discover the illusion is just a dream, so we either accept reality is rarely dream or we move on? Obviously Ron likes her for who she is now, and never before. He is attracted to her image now. Most men are. Reality check. Love at first SIGHT. Not love at first FEEL. Feelings come later. She must have got something right to have Ron keep running back to her, whether her looks or her “skills” or god forbid, her personality. Oh Viann is a feisty one and I suppose Ron likes feisty.

I really don’t believe in love at first sight. I believe in infatuation at first sight. I don’t think those relationships often work out. I think you really need to get to know someone before you truly fall in love with them. I wasn’t even looking when it happened to me, she was just a girl that I was around a lot for about a year or so. Then, one day, I started missing her when she wasn’t around. That was when I knew I’d fallen.
As to plastic surgery – I really don’t like it. It is for the weak. I prefer my women to be comfortable and happy with who they are, not so insecure that they feel the need to carve up their body to please others.

Saw this last night at Ron weibo. Reading those angry reply from his ‘fans’ (some even say they would only support if it was Kate) and threatening to leave him, I was like ‘Good riddance’ because they are not true fans anyway. Artists do not need to apologize for who they are dating. But Viann’s temper has set a stage of her versus Ron’s fans, which makes her a detriment to his career. Each dramatic episode reinforces this.

My theory is that Viann ‘advice’ (LOL) the message, while Ron typed the message because it’s Traditional Chinese (Mainland China people doesn’t read/write Traditional Chinese, but Simplified Chinese).

Looking at the sequence of events in the past few days, I think that Viann seems most upset that Ron has not stood up for her before his fans. Perhaps she thinks that if he acknowledged her as his girlfriend, then the naysayers will stop challenging her. She wished for him to be more upfront and demonstrate loyalty to her.
It’s as if each dramatic Weibo spat, Viann sees it as “them versus me,” who do you choose?
Over the last 4 days, Viann reminisced about “love at first sight” presumably when she first started dating. She thought over the course of their relationship and did not see a future because she likely felt that she has “suffered emotionally” while dating him, due to pressure of fans etc.
Ron and Viann obviously had a recent argument, bordering on break up. Either he demonstrates his loyalty and love, or she will not be convinced.
It appears as if last night, they were together and settled their differences. Due to the timing of the last few days’ posts, yesterday was when they made up. The day before, Ron was still telling the press, “She can say whatever she likes.”
So I do suspect that she either wrote the message or dictated the message for Ron. I suspect the former because it would be very controlling to dictate such a message and make sure he types every single word she utters.
She probably suggested that he post a message on Weibo to announce that they were very happy. He didn’t know what to write, thus she wrote it for him.

As I understand, Ron is not a Mandarin native speaker. Post in weibo usually follow speech pattern. What I meant is that no doubt Ron types it, but the content is influence by Viann.
Example:
謝謝 – Normally in Cantonese would be spoken 多謝
說完之後 – Cantonese use 講 as speak, while Mandarin 說. This is reflected correctly in his earlier line and last line 我只可以講我倆, 不會多講, but somewhere in middle he used 說完, not 講完.

Even though Viann is demanding, there must be a reason why Ron still sticks by her. Push and pull. She most probably understand her limit and this is the most acknowledgement Ron can offer her right now. Ron already made his firm statement and said he shall not reply further. So the consensus is perhaps he formally acknowledge her as girlfriend, while she stops making PR disaster statement to press and weibo.

Viann herself is not Cantonese native speaker. Even if she convert into Traditional Chinese, it still doesn’t explain why the entry have Cantonese speech pattern.

Changing from Traditional to Simplified and vise versa merely affect the writing style (number of strokes), but do not use a totally different letter.
I think Viann verbally tell Ron the wordings, while he type into weibo using his Cantonese speech pattern. In between there would be some confusion, that’s why Ron might have simply typed in Mandarin pattern from what he heard Viann speaking.
If it’s entirely typed by Viann, most probably there won’t be any Cantonese speech pattern.

I think the wordings are written in formal Chinese (vs casual) which is the way Cantonese speakers learn from school and are suppose to write.
HK people can choose to write”spoken Cantonese” or formal Chinese whatever they want, depends on their mood and occasion. Ron may not want to write it as casual chinese, because he might be posting it in a formal manner
