  • Rosy Business 2 Premieres at 32 Points in Ratings

Rosy Business 2 Premieres at 32 Points in Ratings thumbnail

Wayne Lai Yiu Cheung and Sheren Tang Shui Man treated the cast and crew of Rosy Business 2 <巾幗梟雄之義海豪情>to a dinner while watching the first premiere episode together. Since Sheren often filmed series in mainland [earning extra income], Wayne teased that she should treat instead. Wayne initially hoped that the premiere episode would receive thirty-seven points in ratings. In actuality, the first episode only received thirty-two points in ratings.

Earlier at a promotional event for Rosy Business 2Producer Lee Tim Sing vowed that if the series were not good, he would return to a village in China to pick up cow dung. At the time, Wayne chirped that he would pick up cow dung with Producer Lee if the series was not good. As Producer Lee’s subordinate, Wayne went along with his vow while caught in the moment.

Regarding the premiere episode of Rosy Business 2 only receiving thirty-two points, Raymond Wong Ho Yingexpected the ratings to be higher. “I have a lot of confidence [in the ratings]. I will not let Producer Lee go back to China to pick up cow dung!”  Raymond noted that 2010 was a fruitful year for him, since he was involved in three highly regarded series, Rosy Business 2Can’t Buy Me Love <公主嫁到>, and When Lanes Merge<情越雙白線>. Did Raymond possess confidence in winning the TVB Most Improved Male Actor Award? He said that he would rather the series received awards rather than himself.

Jayne: Thirty-two points in ratings is lower than what everyone expected for the premiere episode of Rosy Business 2. Hope the ratings continue to increase!

Raymond Wong has a very good chance in getting the Most Improved Male Actor Award. No one else comes close in challenging him!

    1. Aly says:

A bit surprised with the first episode’s ratings as well since there was so much promotion and hype about the premiere! But I did hear that it got very positive feedback from the audience already, saying that the first episode was very interesting!
I’m pretty sure Raymond Wong will get most improved this year with all the exposure and opportunites he’s gotten. I can’t think of anyone else who might get it. I have a feeling Johnson Lee will be like Sharon Chan and Selena Li-always getting nominated but not winning. He’s probably the only other person that might have a chance. I don’t think Ruco Chan or Eric Li are ready to get them yet until they get bigger roles and more series, although I like them too.

    2. hannah says:

it’s cos of the timing. many working ppl have not come back home from work, hence the ratings.

but it’s true that the first episode was epic. many ppl who have watched it have also said that. it looks almost like a movie itself.

if the drama continues to be good, then ratings will naturally rise. but i think lee tim shing is serious on quitting tv and picking up cow dung if the show doens’t do well.

    3. Jayne says:

Hannah, Producer Lee is ready to retire, but I doubt he will go to China to pick up cow dung. ;p The statement is just used to emphasize his confidence that the series is of excellent quality. I found his statement amusing though.

    4. HeTieShou says:

I think when there is too much hype about any series, it ends up not being so great because everyone’s expectations are way too high and then the series does not meet those expectations. It may that way for Rosy Business 2 but lets wait and see.

I remembered how it was for the Return of the COndor Heroes 2006 from China. There was so much hype and really high expecations for it. But when it came out and people started to watch it, it ended up not being so great. However, with Bi Xue Jian 2007, there was not any hype about it, lesser money was spent on it and the expectations for it were very low. But when it came out, many people liked it and enjoyed it a lot.

    5. Jayne says:

HeTieShou, in Rosy Business 2′s case, I think the hype will be well deserved.

I am looking forward to finding out more details about Wayne’s next rumored project, Big Eunuch Lee Lin Ying 大太監李蓮英, in which Bosco Wong, Michelle Yim, and Tavia’s names are also linked to the project. Although Wayne filmed the sales presentation clip, nothing has been set yet, as Wayne said that he didn’t know who the producer of this series will be yet!

    6. Nguyen says:

the hype for this drama is well-deserved. at least for me. i’ve waited so long for it, and it was good.

    7. HeTieShou says:

      Jayne,
I still think it is very early to conclude whether this series will be really good or not. I guess in my case, I didn’t like Rosy Business 1 very much and thought that it was way overrated. I think Wayne is a good supporting actor, however, I just feel that there is something missing in him that would make him a good leading actor. That is just my opinion so please don’t get offended.

      @Nguyen,
Well as I have said, it is still too early to say or conclude anything. How do you know that if it is good or not if only 1 episode has been aired??

    8. Ricky says:

I don’t think it’s too early to conclude that this series will be a good production. When was the last time a producer and all the artists involved in a series gave such high praise to the show? I don’t recall any series where artists were so confident. Lee Tim Sing said he would quit and Wayne said this is his representative work. These are pretty strong statements.

Wayne is poised to win Best Actor again and he is truly well-deserving of it. It’s clear how much his peers respect him and the professionalism he has for his work. I still remember in the 2008 TVB awards when Wayne won best supporting actor, there was a standing ovation, one that has yet to be matched by anyone. Wayne used 20 years to work his way up. He is without a doubt a part of the “talent group” unlike many of the people TVB promotes who mainly rely on their looks, the “idol group.”

    9. pandamao says:

      Very well said Ricky.

@HeTieShou: It’s hard to accommodate everyone’s taste. Although you personally did not enjoy Rosy Business 1, majority of Hong Kong did. No matter in which aspect you want to look at it, pleasing the home turf audience is their ultimate goal as that is how TVB can attract advertisement sponsors.

Did you get a chance to watch any of Wayne’s more recent sitcoms where he’s pretty much leading the pack? I actually enjoy his comedic, suave persona the producers are throwing at him. I’m pretty much 100% satisfied with everything he’s been doing thus far. Fell in love with him in Journey to the West and followed him since.

    10. Danielle says:

Ok I have watched up to Episode 3 and I must say, the hype really didn’t work well in my case because it set my expectations too high.. To me, the series is just so-so up to this point.

The only surprising guy is Pierre Ngo, his character really stood out.

    11. emily says:

watched till ep 3 as well. this show is def hyped, but worth it, unlike cbml, which was totally crap. no regrets has to be one of the better dramas frm tvb, which is surprisingly lacklustre this year. every episode makes you want more. it has been getting positive reviews in hk. i dun rmb seeing that many +ve feedback aft a fistful of stances finished airing.

    12. Jayne says:

HeTieShou, are you distracted by Wayne’s “uncle” image or lacking romantic leading male qualities? His “everyday man” look and family man reputation (due to high exposure of his wife and teen son) does make it hard to match up with certain actresses. Teresa Mo and Sheren Tang are good matches, but I think overly young and glamorous actresses such as Sonija Kwok and Charmaine Sheh look odd with him, because he has a “middle-aged” feel about him.

In Rosy Business, he had a kissing scene with Nancy Wu and although it was a light peck, again I had that feeling that she was kissing an “uncle.” Wayne also had some lusty stares towards Nancy and I found it a little odd.

Wayne is a great character actor and portrays a wide range of emotions and roles well. Although in many roles, he often played a married man, those relationships were often portrayed from a practical standpoint. There were not a lot of lovely-dovey scenes that were required of him in the past.

Wayne is not a dashing romantic lead, but aside from passionate and all-consuming love situations (which TVB loves to write), he is great in portraying practically everything else as his diverse resume shows.

You can also say that Wayne excels on his solo performance alone and did not rise to fame because of pairing with popular actresses in his early career. Others character actors such as Bowie Lam had Flora Chan and Bobby Au Yeung had Esther Kwan. Wayne stood out by his own performance alone prior to Rosy Business.

    13. Kidd says:

I think Wayne match Sonija well in ‘Pages of Treasure’.

    14. Danielle says:

I actually liked Pages of Treasure a lot, very relaxing series with good family values! Sorry to sidetrack, but yes I thought Wayne had good chemistry with Sonija there. Sonija is aging a bit I noticed….

    15. Aly says:

I think Wayne can lead a series. It just depends on the character he portrays, which would definitely differ from the ones that the more “romantic, charming” play, such as Moses, Kevin, and Ray would play. I agree he makes a good fit for more of a mature, family man. I thought he led Rosy Business very well, and I have to admit I did not like watching Off Pedder until the storyline focused on him and Teresa Mo’s “Yun Sheurn” characters falling in love with one another. I really liked his character in there. As a supporting actor in the past, I have thought that his performances outshined the male lead’s in many instances. With his consistent outstanding perfomances, I don’t think I can see him playing any more supporting roles.

    16. noregrets says:

is it just me or does Raymond Wong resembles the late great Leslie??? I really think they should make a bio pic of Leslie staring Raymond, that would be a role of a lifetime for him. I think that would be amazing and for sure it will be a success.

    17. Kidd says:

      @noregrets

Yes, he indeed look like Leslie and people in the circle also noticed. He has been casted as a Leslie Cheung equivalent before in a series that based was on Anita Mui’s life story. They changed the characters name, but, people know who is it. ‘Anita Mui’ was played played by ex-ATV actress Alice Chan who was known to look like Anita Chan. ‘Andy Lau’ was played by an Andy Lau lookalike called He Gang.

    18. Tempest says:

I just finished episode 17 and I couldn’t help but LoL my head off at the part right before the Japanese guy puts a katana to her neck, Sheren says, this is what we chinese people call … I don’t know maybe it’s because I’m american, I found that to be hilarious. Not a single dull moment.
