Ruco Chan Celebrates 38th Birthday
Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) spent his 38th birthday shooting for TVB’s period drama Captain of Destiny <張保仔>, a time-traveling action series revolving around the adventures of Cantonese pirate Chiang Po Tsai. Ruco’s co-stars staged a small surprise for him, presenting him with a unique birthday cake and a large birthday card.
Ruco went straight to work on the morning of January 14, his 38th birthday, to shoot the drama. In order to give Ruco a surprise, the cast of Captain of Destiny pretended to have forgotten about his birthday. That afternoon, Ruco uploaded a selfie of himself eating lunch alone on Weibo, writing, “Has everyone eaten yet? Don’t mind if I do!” Ruco also typed out the date, hinting his fans of the special day.
Believing that everyone had forgotten about his special day, the cast suddenly surprised him after completing a scene together and presented him with a cake. They also gave him a large birthday card, which contained all the signatures and messages from the drama’s cast and crew.
Ruco immediately took a group photo with the cast and shared it online. He wrote, “I’m so touched! They also gave me a birthday card!”
Captain of Destiny, one of TVB’s most-expensive dramas in recent years, will complete filming by February 2015.

And happy birthday Ruco who at 38 actually looks younger so I suspect as he grows older he will look younger since when younger he always look older.

Maybe TVB wants to air Eye in the Sky during a more favorable ratings season instead of over Lunar New Year holidays.
Ruco is known for his drawing power. Outbound Love was aired during the Lunar New Year period in 2014 and the ratings was still quite good, compared to other dramas aired during the same period and also in 2013. In fact, the viewership for Outbound Love rose steadily and peaked during the final few episodes. Eye in the Sky will only be aired in July this year…so it’s a dry spell for me from now till July. I only watch TVB dramas if Ruco is acting in them.

Agree with choco-bunny. Fans love him too much to forget. Just that, sometimes we are too busy to drop a note to wish him happy birthday. I, for one, was busy on 14 Jan and couldn’t find the time to do that, but already made a wish that he will always be blessed with good health, happiness and success in everything he does.
@choco-bunny: How was the Singapore concert at Suntec? Was it good? I saw the videos on youtube and Ruco’s part was really quite good. He has a nice and powerful voice. And his duet with Linda was awwwww….so sweet. I wanted to watch the concert just for Ruco. But the thought of listening to the excruciating voice of Moses, Roger and the rest really put me off! I wished it was Ruco’s solo concert with Linda as his guest!
@RC, are you from SG? If so, you missed a great performance by Ruco! You can check out YT which also has the other performances and you can see for yourself that Ruco performed best out of all of the 6 artistes. His vocals was clear and strong and he had stage presence. We all cheered so loudly for him and his duet with Linda was like the icing on a beautiful cake. They had so much rapport, PanDa lovers lapped up every minute of it and still can’t get enough. Till now, my mind is full of his performance and I need to watch it everyday! I was also initially hesitant to go as I wasn’t keen on the other performers but i just couldn’t bear the thought of not seeing Ruco perform. Pl do make a date to see him next time he’s here; you can just pretend there are no other performers but him hahah.
The best part of the entire singapore concert was the amazing duet of Ruco and Linda. What a way to end Ruco’s part and then starts Linda’s part. Linda was also sweet to say happy bday to Ruco on stage and also asked the audience to wish him a happy bday too. Only Ruco and Linda can actually sing that night. The others destroyed the concert.
@choco-bunny: Yes, I’m from SG. I really wanted to go to the concert just for Ruco, but the thought of listening to the rest totally put me off. LOL
I watched Ruco’s performance (almost) daily too on YT. He’s really really good and so charming and such a sweet guy. I noticed that he was the only one who knowledged the dancers and Hi-5 with them at the end of the concert. He was really full of life and chirpy each time he was on stage…compared to the rest. I know I missed a great performance by Ruco. The next time he’s here, I’ll definitely be there. Maybe we can go together next time. My friends think I’m crazy and totally obsessed with him. 🙂
I also loved the PanDa performance, can’t get enough of this pairing. And I do think Ruco is the best among the 6 of them, not being biaised just becoz I’m a fan!
@RC, i noticed the hi-5 part too! He’s really nice to acknowledge the back up dancers. In the genting concert, he was also the only one to nod to the dancers as he left the stage. He’s such a nice friendly person and a little bit shy too which is unusual for someone in the entertainment circle <3

I watched a YT vidoe where his fans were waiting at the TVB carpark after the 2014 anniversary awards. He told the reporter interviewing him that his fans knows he doesn’t like attention and drama…but yet they still waited for him till the end of the award to show their support of him (as he didn’t win anything). So he said he’s really grateful and appreciates all that his fans have done for him. He’s such a sweet guy. I can see that his fans really adore him.

Yes totally agree. He sounds so cute and raw back then. Now he has so much control over his voice. He sounds really really good with an added touch of maturity and full of emotions when he sings. Plus with his humility, sportiness and great personality, he’s such a hottie. Coupled with his great acting skills and nice physique, he’s really the total package and to die for !! 🙂
@RC, Ruco just gets better and hotter with age! I think he’s more handsome and masculine now than ever before. He’s really sexy! If you see him in person, you’ll feel weak in the knees looking at him, I kid you not. You’ll be oblivious to everyone and everything else surrounding you.
