Ruco Chan Hopes to Expand into Film Industry

Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) is currently dealing with a full-packed work schedule as he juggles his time between filming three TVB dramas – ICAC Investigators 2016 <廉政行動2016>, A Fist Within Four Walls <城寨英雄>, and Brother’s Keeper 2 <巨輪II>. Despite being overloaded with work, Ruco expressed that the schedule for ICAC Investigators 2016 is easy to accommodate since it is a combination of a TV series and a movie with only a few episodes.

Having enjoyed the portrayal of his character in the ICAC Investigators series last year, Ruco is excited to join the cast once again. Furthermore, he will be collaborating with director Herman Yao (邱禮濤) this time, and is extremely glad for this opportunity since he has watched many of his films in the past.

When asked if Ruco is interested in expanding into the film industry, he expressed, “Of course that’ll be great! There are also broader limits! For TV series, [the station] is always afraid of receiving letters of complaint. I hope we’ll be able to include more film aspects into ICAC Investigators 2016.”

Meanwhile, the filming of A Fist Within Four Walls is almost coming to an end. Ruco remarked, “I hope we’ll have more time and a larger budget to complete the series. I can tell everyone right now that there is a fight scene in every episode, and a large-scale fight scene in every two episodes. Every character is involved in the fights, and we had a lot of fun during filming. I hope we can have more time to perform even better. Unfortunately, I have to fly to Japan on November 21 to film Brother’s Keeper 2, and so our schedule is very rushed.”

    1. @janet72: I loved this guy so much that i rather he be overworked than have nothing to do. He sort of rested for a good 6 months after finished filming Captain of Destiny (didn’t film any dramas from Feb – July and did overseas assignments only). I’m glad TVB recognizes his talent by giving him more dramas to film. Can’t wait to watch his new drama “A First Within Four Walls”. With his good looks, great acting, suave moves and his agility, he’ll make many girls melt in this new drama. He has garnered more than 100 thousand new fans after airing of Captain of Destiny !!! This guy deserves more great things to come his way…

      1. @lml1977 Ikr. I dunno why fans are “complaining ” that he has too much work. It’s better than him warming benches. Was so worried for him when he was apparently on long hiatus after filming COD. Thought he was cold storaged by tvb! Anyway i dont think it’s that much work either cos he’s only guest starring in BK2 and ICAC is only one episode appearance and The First within 4 walls has wrapped up filming.

      2. @isay: I think Ruco’s in all the 5 episodes of ICAC 2016. He is the chief investigator, so he would be in all 5 episodes. The filming for A Fist Within Four Walls is still ongoing for Ruco as he is the main lead. Only those supporting actors (eg Philip Ng) have finished filiming their parts. That’s why in 1 of the interviews he said he has to film for AFWFW till 20th and then fly on 21st to Okinawa to film BK2. Anyway, I do agree that he is kept busy instead of warming the bench !

      3. @lml1977 I don’t think so. Each episode is a separate story involving different investigators. It shld be in the same format as ICAC 2015. Anyway don’t expect too many scenes of him either way.

  1. some are so overloaded, some/many are not loaded; sometimes so overloaded, sometimes/many times not loaded; wonder how tvb organises & why they think they need organise this way

  2. Hope to see Ruco in movies soon! So tired of hearing all those other familiar names appearing in all the hk movies over and over ad nauseum.

  3. how does TVB manage their artistes?? some are overloaded while some are kept in the ‘cold storage’.
some are hanging around…neither here nor there.

  4. Yeah…I want to see Ruco in movies. Frankly, pretty sick of seeing the same old faces in HK movies. Ruco is an excellent actor and he has a huge fan base in South East Asia. I dare say he is currently 1 of TVB’s most marketable siu sang in recent years given that he also sings well. And he is extremely eye candy as well. Actually, I always wondered why hasn’t he been approached to film movies? Why hasn’t anyone approached him? Or has it been rejected by TVB given that he is their management artist?

    1. @lml1977 Unfortunately, if Ruco continues to stay with TVB as a managed artist, he won’t get the chance to expand into movies, since TVB is always going to prioritize their own series first  – doesn’t matter how good the opportunity or offer from outside is or how much it will help the artist’s career, he won’t reap the benefit if TVB doesn’t want to let him (besides, it’s not like TVB truly cares about their artists’ well-being or how their career is going — they only care about how much money the artist us able to make for them). Of course, there’s always TVB’s movie arm Shaw Brothers, but seeing that most of their movies are just as crappy as their TV series, might as well just stick to filming series….

If Ruco is truly serious about establishing a movie career (I mean a ‘real’ movie career like some of those ‘same old faces’ we see in HK movies currently), pretty much his only option is to leave TVB and either sign with a big name management company or go freelance…staying at TVB (more specifically being a TVB managed artist) definitely limits his options.

      1. @llwy12: I really hope that Ruco will one day pluck up his courage and venture into movies before it is too late. This guys is so talented and staying in TVB is such a waste. From the many interviews and from what I have read/seen, he is a genuine nice guy too. He definitely deserves much much more and I really wish great things will come his way soon.

  5. Ruco Chan is EXTREMELY eye candy…not surprised TVB is holding him tight since he is one of the most promising artistes. if he moves to movies, it will be hard to get higher viewership for dramas without Ruco.

    1. @janet72: Yes, he is absolutely good-looking and extremely sexy in my eyes. I love his athletic and lean physique. And he exudes this sexiness so naturally without him realizing it. Not sure if TVB really treasures him…he is so low-key, loyal and totally unassuming that he just takes on whatever crap TVB throws upon him. He is often in low budget, small productions and paired with newbies, or 2nd tier actors that are not in the same calibre as him. COD may be the biggest production to date but look at his co-stars….all are almost fresh faces and their acting is so over-the-top. I am thankful the COD producer cast him as the 11th prince. Else, this COD is a major disaster.

      1. @lml1977 when he was paired with Maggie in Forensic Heroes, they made a compatible couple and gosh, he is so attractive in that drama. I prefer him wearing glasses and in suits.

      2. @janet72: I love this guy in just about anything. Of course, he looks extremely handsome in suits, but minus the glasses. I think glasses add years to his real age and does him an injustice. He looks much younger without glasses. I prefer him without glasses any time. Check out YT video where he wore ripped tight skinny jeans at the COD celebration dinner. He wasn’t wearing glasses. With unstyled hair, he looks so boyish and so cute. My nose would have bled if I was at the dinner. LOL

  6. Hong Kong movies are crap anyway. I can’t believe Hong Kong people actually pay ticket to watch it. Regardless if it’s Shaw Brothers or big budget movies…all so one note.
