Ruco Chan Joins Auto Racing Team; Will Compete in Malaysia

Car enthusiast, Ruco Chan (陳展鵬), has officially joined an auto racing team. Sporting a pair of sunglasses and yellow racing gear, he appeared in Kowloon City for the Hong Kong Aviation Club’s Greater China Cup autograph ceremony. The 37-year-old TVB actor will later head to Malaysia to participate in an international competition.

The event organizers arranged to have Ruco board a helicopter and enjoy a bird’s eye view of Hong Kong. Ruco expressed excitedly, “I never boarded this type of helicopter before. The weather was very nice today, and I went over Discovery Bay and Peng Chau for the first time. We also saw the entire Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island. It was very fun!”

The executive of the Lotus racing team that Ruco joined praised him for exhibiting a healthy and fit image. He has confidence that Ruco will be able to attract female audiences to pay attention to upcoming auto racing events. Ruco revealed he has already trained for a month in Guangzhou and even obtained his racing license. The international competition in Malaysia will take place on August 15.

Although Ruco did not reveal how much money he earned from signing the contract with the team, he shared that the team bought him a seven-digit sum worth of insurance. Speaking of possible accidents, Ruco expressed, “I have a professional instructor, but sometimes I find it hard to control my turns. Racecars are actually not that dangerous as long as you have basic knowledge on the field and follow the rules.”

  1. 7 digit Hkd isn’t a lot of money. Ruco with his potential earning power is worth much more than that. With his sporty image, he makes a good spokesperson for Lotus. Hope he drives safely.

    1. and it’s only a 7-digit insurance, meaning he only gets that money in the case of an accident ( I THINK)

      1. What? Or course he is paid to endorse lotus. But I am curious why or how com he ended up with this endorsement? Anyway where is camera and phone endorsement? Or Pepsi? Mow those are huge endorsement.

      2. Yes steven, that’s the insurance amt i was referring to.
Funn, i believe he is paid handsomely. We’re talking about Lotus the sportscar maker, not some cheap florist. The other endorsements will come later, i’m pretty sure, given his growing popularity.

    2. In my eyes, he is a priceless treasure. Ruco, please do enjoy the race. Safety is more important than prize.

      1. Can’t agree more. Just stands out as an icon and try to finish the race carefully is enough.

  2. This is one of the most dangerous sports on this planet earth. Stay safe Ruco!!!!

  3. He just keeps getting HOTTER and HOTTER w/age or what? ahah LOL…

    1. And this isnt even the hottest pic that jaynestars chose. There’re much hotter pics in his fan club forum.

  4. It’s nice to see the executive of the Lotus racing team Eric Wong said he admired Ruco’s success story, as a writer himself he praised Ruco in a newspaper article even before they know each other. Ruco is almost the second celebrity they have chosen for Lotus, the first was Andy Lau and Andy signed his contract at the same venue. really proud of Ruco 🙂

    1. Yes i caught that too. So happy for him that his early struggles have become an inspiration for others. He deserves all the good things coming his way.

    2. Proud of Ruco. He’s like the successor for Andy Lau now. I never see any other TVB actor can race like him doing now.

      1. I watched this clip earlier. He’s gooorgeooous!!

      2. Yes, do watch before he gets bald! Wonder how he goes bare-headed for rest of the races. tbb, don’t ruin your money tree.

  5. Hmm, what category of race is there at an international event for almost complete amateurs? Ruco says he’s never driven a RWD car before his training, which umbrellas the majority of performance cars. He also mentions his troubles getting around corners and that’s what circuit racing is all about. Sounds to me like his race will be celebrities doing parade laps, really.

But of course, he’s always looking fabulous. Got to give him that.

  6. Unless he really enjoys the sport, going into this type of endorsement where he’s required to participate in races just to make some big bucks is just not smart. Too much danger involved. Hope he has a safe experience.

    1. I believe he does. He enjoys mountain biking and scuba diving too. He’s quite an adrenaline junkie so i think car racing is right up his alley. Just pray for his safety!

  7. Was this picture taken recently? Why does his face look so bloated? I feel he looked and acted his best in Po Chung Ling.

    1. There are much better pics from this event than this which Jaynestars used. From the video clips, he’s certainly not bloated.

      1. Ruco looked gorgeous in his racing suit. Don’t feel he’s bloated at all even at the pic above, when he’s smiling.

  8. The best of luck to Ruco when he races in Malaysia tomorrow. Hope he finishes off his race unscathed and well!

  9. Ruco, drive carefully! Safety is the most important issue.
