Samantha Ko Butchers Chickens For “Predatory” Co-stars

Predatory as a Love Affair <愛情食物鏈> stars Jason Chan (陳智燊), Samantha Ko (高海寧), and Brian Tse (謝東閔) went to support their costars Kitty Yuen (阮小儀) and King Kong (金剛) on the latest season of their food show Neighborhood Gourmet <街坊廚神舌戰愛情食物鏈>. On the episode, Samantha was tasked to butcher a chicken and then cook it, poking fun at her own role in the romantic-comedy drama.

After tasting Samantha’s dish, King Kong rated the chicken as too salty. Samantha retorted, “I’ve been cooking at home a lot recently! How is this too salty?”

The actress then said afterwards, “This is my first time butchering a chicken. I had to do it myself, and now my hands are coated with chicken oil. It’s a lot harder than it looks. There are actually classes you can take for this.”

Since King Kong did not rate Samantha’s dish favorably, the reporters suggested Samantha to find a boyfriend to do the tasting test. Samantha said, “This is Neighborhood Gourmet! Many people in the nearby neighborhoods will help me out!” Is Samantha interested in dating? “I am. To be honest, I am quite jealous of King Kong. Even he got a girlfriend.” Asking if she’s interested in dating costar Brian Tse, who is also single, Samantha said, “Hahaha! I prefer more mature men!”

Nonetheless, Samantha is rumored to be dating music producer Tang Chi-wai (鄧智偉), although this is yet to be confirmed by both parties.

Predatory as a Love Affair debuted on January 11, 2016. First-week ratings were reported to be at 26 points, and peaked at 29 points, pulling in an average of 1.69 million viewers per episode. This successfully puts Predatory as a Love Affair to be the most-watched television serial of 2016 in Hong Kong thus far, surpassing the critically-acclaimed The Executioner <刀下留人> and the popular Chinese drama Wu Xin: The Monster Killer <無心法師>.

  1. The high rating of this ‘Predatory as a Love Affair’ and that office ghost story shows that TVB’s audience prefer light-hearted series. So, no need to put high budget for good CGI or go for overseas location shooting. 😛

Btw, I’m also happy that ‘The Executioner’ has good ratings. The series did well without big stars helming it. Many people praise it for its good story. This should point TVB to the right direction. A good storyline that can touch people’s heart is the most important. Good special effects and expensive location shooting is secondary.
