Shirley Yeung Earns $2 Million Milk Money for Daughter

Life as a single mother has not been easy for Shirley Yeung (楊思琦) ever since the birth of her daughter, Krystal Yeung (楊卓穎), in February 2012. No matter how hard life may be, she continues to stay optimistic and hard-working. At the moment, little Krystal is Shirley’s first priority.

Although Shirley has not been actively filming dramas, she raked in an annual income of $2 million HKD. The bulk of the income were from lucrative stage performances in mainland China, coupled with endorsement fees and promotional appearances.

Last month, Shirley was spotted taking her daughter to a playgroup in Wan Chai. After parking her car, she pushed the baby carriage and walked for 10 minutes before arriving at the playgroup. Reporters realized that there was a closer parking space that charged $25 HKD per hour, but it seemed like Shirley would rather save the money and walk.

While Krystal stayed at the playgroup, Shirley chatted with other parents for some childcare tips. An insider revealed that Shirley was very focused on providing her daughter a good education. The playgroup charged $500 HKD per month, aiming to stimulate the young children’s senses through a variety of activities and games. The teachers are very professional and caring towards the children. Furthermore, the spots for the one-year old class were limited, and a draw had to be used to determine the students’ enrollments.

Shirley worked hard right after the birth of Krystal. She would appear as a spokesperson, or perform onstage whenever she had the chance. TVB management executive, Virginia Lok (樂易玲), tried to offer Shirley job opportunities whenever possible. Shirley expressed, “She has constantly been helping me, and I’m very grateful.”

In the middle of the year, Shirley will be participating in a mini movie as the female lead.

  1. 2 M HKD is a lot of milk money. By US standards, even converting into USD makes the baby extremely well-fed possibly obese…just kidding. I am sure the mother has to work crazy hours to earn that amount. I think many would to get that amount also.

    1. Aptos,
Well the only problem is that Shirley’s mainland market value is based on her popularity from past dramas. Since she hasn’t had a major role in recent TVB dramas, her recognition level will only slip with time. So the current burst in income, primarily from mainland performances, may not be sustainable.

      1. I hope Shirely will be given some good roles to act in the forthcoming drama series to boost her popularity in Hong Kong and Mainland China.

If people can “forget and forgive” Ah Gil (one of the twins), they should forget and forgive Shirley as well. After all, it was only her bad luck in her love life.

      2. to be honest. she didn’t hurt any of “us” with that incident, except her ex-bf and his family and herself and her family.

who are we/they/people not involved to forgive or not to forgive?

        wish her the best.

      3. -Jayne,
Good thing she is still in demand in China b/c i dont think she was ever like popular popular in HK. She is just a so so actress who gets some good roles here and there but lately it was just supportings i think so good thing she can still grab money from elsewhere.

      4. @elle: There are ppl here who like to “forgive” and “not forgive” artists :P, or act like mama or papa of artists.

      5. That’s how it is in the circle. You have an unstable income…

      6. Right. Shirley did not do anything to hurt us, why should we mind so much about her mistakes in her love life?

  2. Hope they’ll give her more meaty roles soon!!!

  3. $2 million hkd is about 250 thousand usd, that is quite a lot of money. I really hope she gets more job in the future she is a talented actress. I really like her. She is such a great mother and actress

  4. Working for that amount and yet be able to bring her daughter to playgroups, is the envy of many single mothers out there.

  5. It did not look as if Shirley would make a good mother but I’m glad I was wrong. Her priority is her baby and that’s more important than anything in the world. I wish shirley all the best.
