Sire Ma Ousted from Johnnie To’s New Film

Sire Ma’s (馬賽) pure image was thrown in the dirt after her scandalous affair with Mainland businesswoman Wang Ziqi (汪子琦) was exposed in 2013. Her reputation tarnished, Sire was briefly suspended by TVB and was without work for many months.

With the support of TVB executive Virginia Lok (樂易玲), Sire returned to the industry in late 2014. Starring in upcoming TVB period drama With or Without You <東坡家事> in a small supporting role, Sire is determined to regain her career in small steps.

Virginia Lok also managed to snag a role for Sire in Ann Hui’s (許鞍華) new film Eight and a Half Steps <8部半>, produced by Johnnie To (杜琪峰). However, sources say that Sire performed poorly in the film, forcing Johnnie to give her up after one scene.

The source said, “Johnnie To told Sire Ma that if she performs well, he would give her more scenes. But Sire was incompetent, always daydreaming, and did not memorize her dialogue. After only one scene, she never showed up in the studios again.”

Recently, Sire has been busying herself with studying Buddhism and taking film courses. When asked if it was true that Johnnie To kicked her out of the film, Sire said with a smile, “It’s true that I don’t have a job right now. As for the filming, please ask the film studios instead!”

The reporters then asked Johnnie To for confirmation, but he refused to respond.
