Sisley Choi Believes Connections Are Not Needed for Miss Hong Kong Win

At the recent interviews for the Miss Hong Kong 2015 pageant, one of the contestants mentioned the need to pull strings for the chance to be shortlisted as a finalist. Sisley Choi (蔡思貝) asserted that the allegation was probably untrue, and mentioned that she was placed as first runner-up in 2013 without any connections.

She said, “Look, my father is a civil servant, and my mother is a housewife. We don’t know anyone that’s well-connected!”

On whether the contestant who made the statement had an ulterior motive, Sisley said that she was unable to comment on behalf of someone else. However, she understood that being eliminated was bound to cause dissatisfaction.

On the controversy that has surrounded this year’s contestants, Sisley expressed that she was not too sure about the details. When competing in Miss Hong Kong 2013, the contestants were not required to sign confidentiality agreements at the interview and were only asked to do so after they were finalists. She emphasized that the contestants competing that year got along particularly well, and there were few negative rumors.

Promoting soccer at the event she attended earlier, Sisley revealed that despite being active in sports, she preferred playing basketball to soccer. Her only interaction with soccer was watching late-night soccer matches with her father.

  1. Not sure what the controversy is this year but don’t the most connected girl always win or at least get into the finals?

Grace won last year and she’s very wealthy; not sure about the 3rd placed girl. But just go back every year and rich girl always get something.
