Sonija Kwok to Return to Work in September

Sonija Kwok (郭羨妮) delivered a baby girl, Kylie, earlier this May. Since then, Sonija has taken a break from work and kept herself occupied with Kylie while her husband, Zhu Shaojie, 朱少杰, was filming in the Mainland. During a telephone interview, a very happy Sonija expressed that 2-month old Kylie has kept her very busy, especially since many friends such as Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) would stop by for a visit.

Sonija did not feel that being a parent is difficult. She explained, “My mom was here to help me out in the beginning. The baby didn’t wean off her milk at night yet, so I still take care of her at night. She is starting to giggle now and she’s getting really chubby! She weighed about 10 pounds at the last check-up!”

In preparation for getting back into acting, Sonija focused on getting her pre-baby figure back, dropping 33 pounds in the past 2 months! She said, “I weighed 148 pounds after the baby. But I’ve been eating very healthy and dropped back to 115 pounds.” When asked if she and her husband were interested in expanding their family, Sonija was quick to say, “Of course he wants to! I want to as well, but the doctor advised us to wait about six months, so perhaps at the end of the year? It’s best if a child can have a playmate!”

Fans of Sonija will be able to see her on the television again come September, in which she will star alongside Sunny Chan (陳錦鴻) and Raymond Wong (黃浩然) in a TVB period drama. Sonija said that her husband encouraged her to go back to work and she is looking forward to getting back into acting. She did not especially ask the cast and crew to accommodate to her schedule now that she has a baby. Besides, since Sunny and Raymond are both fathers themselves, there will surely be lots of discussion about parenting!

  1. Hope the new baby will bring her luck in her career as well.

    1. Funn,
At a few months of age, they’re all cute and fat…. I have not seen a bad looking baby at that age.

      1. But the pretty features are all there. Quite big eyes, nice small nose, tiny heart shaped lips. I have seen ugly babies before but of course I won’t go “So uglyyyyyyyyyy” unless I want to be punched.

But is 10 pounds heavy? I mean just a baby, why all these heavy not heavy talks. 10 pounds is healthy. Children should be chubby.

      2. Funn,
10 pounds for 3-month old Kylie doesn’t sound heavy at all. Some babies are already born around 8 pounds.

Among recent babies, I find that Yoyo Chen and Vincent Wong’s daughter to be the cutest. She has huge eyes.

  2. Looking toward Sonija’s new drama serie and I like all the casts.

  3. LOL I remember when my niece was born, we were all a little bit disappointed with the way she looked…lol mean…but yeah. Even her mother, my cousin, sighed and said, “looks like I made a poor investment.” lol Thankfully, at around 3-5 months, she became sooooo much cuter. We all took a sigh of relief. hahahaha

Well, Kylie has large black pupils and that looks like a pretty sharp chin for a baby! All babies are cute a couple of months after they are born. Kylie doesn’t really look like mom though, but she still might be pretty in the future lol

Gosh, so many baby news, even on my facebook. But really, when you have a daughter, you hope for her to be pretty despite other things being more important in life.

    1. Indeed, I was looking at the chin, and thinking she’s gonna have a sharp chin. Usually babies just have blobs for chins. or no chins. LOL

  4. Sonjia’s baby looked a bit prettier in the above photo vs when she was a new born.

Kylie looked very much like her dad, especially her eyes. Otherwise she would look prettier. Hopefully she will get prettier and prettier in future.

  5. The baby of Yoyo and Vincent did look prettier when she was a new born baby. She inherited her big eyes from Yoyo and hopefully she will get her height from Vincent.

    1. Wow, first you call Sharon Chan a “fat face”, when she may be sick. Then you complain about Myolie being too “tall and skinny with her small face”, when that’s ideal proportions, “An average person, is generally 7-and-a-half heads tall (including the head). An ideal figure, used when aiming for an impression of nobility or grace, is drawn at 8 heads tall.
Now you start comparing newborn babies for the way they look.
      Sick.

      1. PS: the parents are public figures, but the babies are not. How do you think kids will feel if you compare their looks with another?
They are BOTH cute in their own way. They shouldn’t have to fit into a certain Mold to be pretty or cute. Please don’t force them down the plastic surgery route.

      2. I am just being honest. Perhaps every one is pretty and beautiful to you, but not to me. My standards are pretty high, sorry.

If an artiste cannot take criticisms, he or she should not be an artiste. When I criticize an artiste, I always tried to be very polite. There are a lot of anti-fans here criticizing other artistes very rudely. Why don’t you attack them?

Sonija is very pretty and feminine, but her daughter does not look like her unfortunately. She picked it from her husband, but this is a fact.

      3. Perhaps all babies are cute to you, but some must be prettier than others. This is also a fact.

I did not say Sonija’s baby is ugly, I just said that her baby did not pick up the pretty resemblance from her mom. What is wrong with it?

      4. You did not say that the baby is ugly, but you said the baby isn’t as pretty as her mom. When you were a kid, and someone says, too bad you don’t look like your mom, you will be prettier, how would you feel? It’s interesting that you said that when artistes can’t take criticism, they shouldn’t be artistes, but these babies aren’t.

      5. Perhaps every one is pretty and beautiful to you, but not to me. My standards are pretty high, sorry.
Yes, those high standards, are what make all girls go for plastic surgery and have the same face. Sure, they all end up being pretty, but all clones. I prefer people having unique features, rather than cloned features to make them pretty and beautiful.

        This is what I posted:

“Sonjia’s baby looked a bit prettier in the above photo vs when she was a new born.

        This is what Jayne posted:

“Among recent babies, I find that Yoyo Chen and Vincent Wong’s daughter to be the cutest. She has huge eyes.”
        ——————————-
It seemed that we both were comparing babies on this forum. Why didn’t you attack Jayne as well?

I don’t know who was sick!!

      7. Because, Jayne didn’t call Sharon a fat face when she may be sick? That’s like saying someone who is undergoing chemo is “balding”? It’s sick.

      8. Sharon always had a “fat” (in quotes) face. As stated in one of the articles, she went to a Chinese doctor to trim her face many years ago. I did not comment on her face due to her illness. In fact, her face has been trimmed down quite nicely in the last two years. Didn’t you notice it?

Do you understand the way of using quotes? It means that it is not quite true; it is used to describe something only. Learn the meaning before you bark!

      9. In the article about her being ill, all you wanted to say was she has a “fat” face. She may be sick, and you are only concerned about her looks. LOL So what if you use quotes?

      10. In fact, my word “fat” meant “wide”. That is why I put it in quotes.

Sharon Chan has always been very skinny over the years, but she still wanted to trim her face to make herself prettier in filming. I hope you know it.

      11. Perhaps I did not pay a lot of attention to Sharon’s illness. Sorry, Sharon. You must be glad that you have a nice fan to defend you.

I just talked about Sharon Chan in general.

      12. Nicole:

Why didn’t you attack me in Sharon’s article? I could have accepted your nasty comments more, but not here on Sonija’s baby girl.

      13. Nicole:

You should re-read the article, as well as the comments, on Sonija’s new born baby when her photo was firstly posted. Perhaps you will be very busy in attacking everyone’s post.

      14. Sandcherry: I did reply you in Sharon’s article when you commented about her having a fat face. In Sharon’s article, I tried to be partial, because well, it’s the first.

Then in Myolie’s article, when you complained about her being too tall and skinny with a small head. Are you kidding me? You said Sharon had a big head, and with myolie you complain she has a small head. There seems like there’s no satisfying you. How do you want her to look better? cut off her legs so she doesn’t look so tall and skinny? Geezus

Then comes to the babies, and again, you are complaining about how she’s not pretty enough. Is looks the only important thing?

      15. You should re-read the article, as well as the comments, on Sonija’s new born baby when her photo was firstly posted. Perhaps you will be very busy in attacking everyone’s post.

Btw, i jus went to Sonija’s article where the baby’s first photos were posted. You should too. Guess what? The only one who said anything about Sonija’s baby not being pretty enough is you?

“Their daughter is like a female version of Shaojie.” ……. Agree. I wish Sonjia’s daughter would look more like her Mom. She will be prettier for sure.

        Are you serially negative?

      16. If you think both Sharon Chan and Myolie Wu are very pretty artists. Good for you. I don’t personally. As I said, my standards are pretty high.

      17. Anyways when you have your baby, please please don’t post any photos on your Facebook or website, you surely will get a lot of remarks (good or bad). I don’t think you can take them!!

      18. As you can tell from Sonija’s first article, most people do post positive comments, unlike a certain negative nancy.

      19. I don’t necessarily think that Sharon Chan or Myolie are extremely pretty artistes. But when I look at clones like SNSD, that I can barely tell apart, or those actresses in Mainland series, who do look pretty, but look all the same with large eyes, straight nose, pointy chin and rosebud lips, I appreciate Myolie’s and Sharon’s uniqueness. Same reason why I appreciate Charmaine with her lollipop head. Or Linda with her hooked nose and masculine figure. They aren’t the prettiest ever, but they are unique and real. And you can actually tell them apart.
If people’s idea of beauty isn’t so stringent, there should be less people out there trying to remake themselves into Angelababy clones.

      20. Some artistes are prettier than others, such as Sonija Kwok. She is definitely prettier than Myolie Wu or Linda Chung. Sonija never had any plastic surgery. I am not asking every artiste to have plastic surgery. I just ask for natural beauty ….. pretty eyes, nose and ears, good face, decent figure (tall but not super skinny)……. PROPORTIONAL all the way.

Of course, not every artiste is very pretty. As an audience, we can surely voice our opinions. Can’t we?

      21. Some artistes are prettier than others, but that doesn’t mean that the others are not pretty. They are all attractive in their unique way. I mean look at those runway models, the chinese ones with their slitty cat eyes and high cheekbones, or the european ones who looks like bugs. Maybe you call them ugly due to your stringent beauty standards. It’s sort of like art. We embrace art that is unique and different, and more so should we with humans?

      22. Nicole:

I guess we have to stop arguing about “prettiness” which is very subjective. You may find a person pretty while I don’t, or vice versa.

You can always adore the ones you like, and I can always comment on the one I don’t. Even in a beauty contest, the winners may not be the prettiest ones.

    2. Also, my remarks were posted after reading Jayne’s post. I don’t see anything wrong with Jayne’s remarks.

They were basically our personal views and comments after seeing the babies of Yoyo and Sonija. If the moms could not take any comments, they should not have posted the photos. They should have followed Andy Lau’s choice — no photos.

      1. And Jayne’s comment is much more mild than yours.
She only said one line about Yoyo’s baby being the prettiest, you have to say all this:

“Sonjia’s baby looked a bit prettier in the above photo vs when she was a new born.
Kylie looked very much like her dad, especially her eyes. Otherwise she would look prettier. Hopefully she will get prettier and prettier in future.

The baby of Yoyo and Vincent did look prettier when she was a new born baby. She inherited her big eyes from Yoyo and hopefully she will get her height from Vincent.

Sonija is very pretty and feminine, but her daughter does not look like her unfortunately. She picked it from her husband, but this is a fact.

, I just said that her baby did not pick up the pretty resemblance from her mom.”

      2. This is North America with freedom in speeches and writings.

Why couldn’t I make comments on what I saw? I was just posting my own remarks according to my judgement only. I don’t think I was rude to either Sharon Chan or Sonija Kwok. Why did you bother?

      3. I did not say that you couldn’t. Did I?

But if you want to be a super nice person, go ahead. You will be very busy from now on. There are just tons of nasty remarks about anything/any artistes on this forum. I don’t think I am a mean and rude writer anyway.

      4. Artistes are fair game, because like you said, they are public figures. But when someone is sick or putting down babies that aren’t public figures, but just some parents who want to share their joy with their fans, that’s different.

  6. Can’t wait to see her back on-screen! She look beautiful!

  7. such a beautiful baby! it’s not often that a newborn looks so pretty.

  8. I have a baby almost 3months old, a few of my relatives have comment she would be even
prettier if she had her mother’s eyes. At the moment they look like her father’s.
    I don’t get offended,because it’s true.

People comment on your looks, no matter if you are a celeb or not. That’s just life ! It’s important for us to teach them personality is the most important
because looks can be gone in an instant from accidents etc.

    1. Gia:
Thanks for your comments. It is very true that people would usually make comments about the resemblance of a baby’s face. If a pretty woman decided to marry a not-too-handsome husband, she should be ready to accept that her children could look more like her husband instead of herself.

Her husband must be very good in personality or has other talents, and her daughter may inherit these good qualities from him.

    2. yes ppl do like commenting..and coming up wth the most ridiculous suggstion……….. asking me to pull my daughtrs nose so she doesnt hve flat nose… why would i do tht…. does it ven work
