Sonija Kwok’s Daughter is Easy to Take Care Of

New mother, Sonija Kwok (郭羨妮), attended a function in Tuen Mun on August 20th. At the event, Sonija chatted with the event hosts about her two-month old daughter, whom Sonija referred to as “LL,” and discussed some of her diet secrets.

The event was Sonija’s first public appearance after the birth of her daughter in May 2012. She revealed that her daughter is extremely easy to take care of and that she rarely cries or wakes up in the middle of the night. Sonija said, “It’s my first time being a mother, so I really didn’t know how to take care of a baby. Thankfully, my mother is always here to help me out. I am very sure that the first word my daughter will learn to say is ‘grandma.’”

Sonija will resume work at TVB in September to film Leung Choi Yuen’s (梁材遠) new drama, Records of a Commencement on Day Five <初五啟市錄>, in which she will star with Sunny Chan (陳錦鴻) and Raymond Wong (黃浩然). Sonija’s daughter is her utmost priority, and she will not leave Hong Kong for work in the time being.

In related news, Miss Hong Kong contestant Roxanne Tong (湯洛雯) was earlier asked for her thoughts on who is the most undeserving Miss Hong Kong winner during a promotional event for the 2012 Miss Hong Kong Pageant. After a whole minute of thought, Roxanne answered “Sonija Kwok.” She immediately explained, “Sonija is a natural beauty. She should be a movie star!”

Sonija, who won both the Miss Hong Kong and Miss Chinese International titles, did not feel offended by Roxanne’s comment, and remarked that Roxanne is a promising candidate to win this year’s Miss Hong Kong Pageant.

  1. Sonija Kwok is so lucky to have an easy-going baby. She is only 2 months old and she does not wake up at night. Most babies do until at least 8 or 9 months old.

    1. That’s not quite true, a lot of babies I know can sleep through the night at around 3 months.

      1. Really? Our friends’ don’t. A lot of the mothers have to wake up in the middle of the night at least once until the babies are about 10 months old.

Your friends are very lucky parents!

    2. Actually from newborn to 2 mths old if they’re fully breastfed, it’s really quite difficult for the baby to sleep through the night because breast milk is digested faster & baby gets hungry. Most require feeding every 2-3 hours and at night, maximum 4 hours.
Probably her baby doesn’t wake that often or maybe grandma takes care of the night bottle feedings.

    3. my baby is 3 months and she is sleeping through the night already. =)

      1. Its good that if your baby continue to sleep thru the night until she/he is 1 year old but baby sleeping pattern change from time to time. 🙂 What do you feed your newborn? formula or “bre ast” milk?

  2. Baby is soo cute! Can’t wait to see Sonija back on-screen.

Really hope Roxanne won’t win MHK.

  3. She is lucky to have her mom to help her as well. Not everyone gets all that extra help.

I do not understand why Roxanne has to say that Sonjia did not deserve the title and then said she is a natural beauty?? Is she implying that Ms HK contestants are unnatural beauties(like her as we have seen how she looks without makeup)?? Gosh, I really wish that she will not win or else that us proof that the MS Hk pageant is rigged for sure.

  4. I don’t understand why Roxanne Tong said “Sonija Kwok is the most undeserving Miss Hong Kong winner”. In fact, Sonija was one of the most deserving Miss Hong Kong winners for her natural beauty. Sonija never had any plastic surgery done on her face, eyes or body before and after the competition. Sonija is still very pretty for her age – 38 years old.

    1. I agree and I wonder if it out of jealousy?? Sonjia is natural beauty due to her mixed background and is definately one of the most deserving Ms Hk winners. If Roxanne does win, she will definately be the one that does not deserve it at all.

    2. Sandcherry,
The question of the “most undeserving Miss HK winner” is meant to be a tricky question. Whoever Roxanne chose, she would have to justify it. Thus Roxanne answered Sonija Kwok because she felt that with Sonija’s great beauty, she was meant to achieve even greater strides such as becoming a film star instead of a beauty queen. Roxanne meant to compliment Sonija in her answer.

If Roxanne answered truthfully with her personal assessment of which winner did not deserve the title, she would be criticized.

      1. Jayne:

You are right. It was a very tricky question then. It seemed that Roxanne was pretty smart in her answer.

      2. @Jayne: If Roxanne were quick witted she would know to circumvent that trick question with charm and guile and most importantly, tactfully, by saying something along this line ‘they are all Miss HKs chosen by a panel of esteemed judges, so of course, all are deserving,’ and with just a tad of sauciness, ‘and I would be so honored if I were chosen to be part of that Miss HK sisterhood representing Hong Kong.’

Imo, that ‘trick question’ isn’t all that tricky to answer at all, and easily circumvented with tact.

she was meant to achieve even greater strides such as becoming a film star instead of a beauty queen. Roxanne meant to compliment Sonija in her answer.

Say what? Compliment? Very backhanded, that. So was Roxanne implying to her panel of judges, of Miss HK Beauty Pageant, mind you, that the status of a Miss HK (not just any beauty queen) is much lower and less prestigious than that of a HK actress? And that all one needs to be a film star is just possessing mere beauty?

So in addition to a dubious ‘compliment’ to SK, Roxanne also inadvertently insulted Miss HK Pageantry (which btw whose crown she is attempting to win) by implying that the status and quality of its panel of Miss Hong Kong is much lower than that of a HK actress?

3 strikes in all for her answer: 2 for implied insults, one for direct insult.

I don’t think Roxanne’s response is smart at all. I think she put her feet in her mouth with it and botched her answer.

      3. Clamine,
Your answer to the “most undeserving Miss HK” answer is certainly more well thought out than Roxanne’s answer.

      4. LOL now Roxanne insulted the pageant she’s trying to win

      5. @Clamine,
That’s what I was thinking and very well said. Roxanne tries to act all clever but it ends up blowing up in her face…

      6. I agree with Jayne. This is also how I would have interpreted Roxanne’s answer.

Personally, if I were Roxanne, I might have grinned and answered with “Roxanne Tong.” lol

      7. @jayne, agree with your thoughts.
@clamine, yours would be a tactful and smart answer which I think the judges were expecting from a quick-witted contestant (besides apple-polishing the panel of judges) – but the person being asked that question may not be so quick-thinking at that time (maybe nervous, did not expect such a question, etc..).

    3. HAHA Its funny how Roxanned said Sonija was the most undeserved Ms HK…when herself isn’t near as pretty as Sonija.. haha.. Sonija is wayyyyyy prettier than her 10 times more and smarter too

      1. I agree!! By the way, how mixed is Sonjia? I know that she is 25% british right? Is it from her dad or mom’s side?? Just curious…

      2. I think is from her dad’s side.. she interited those brit’s blood from. Yeah the more Roxanne open her mouth, the more she shows her level of dumbness and arroganceness.

      3. Thanks for the info! I thought it was from her mom’s side since her last name is still Kwok. If it is from her dad’s side, then it is from her paternal grandmother. It is a bit hard to tell since we can’t see it in her name like with Michele Reis.

Yes, Roxanne is so stupid and lacks everything a MS Hk needs to have. I hope she does not win or else I think people will boycott the MS HK pageant.

  5. I know Miss HK has Miss Photogenic and Miss International Goodwill… but you know, if they added Miss Controversial I’m sure Roxanne would win hands down this year!

    1. Funny if miss controversial Roxanne ended up with the MHK 2012 crown.

  6. well, it is easy because her mother is always there to help her. I bet her tone will be different if she has to handle all by herself. Even if the baby is easy to take care, it takes a lot of energy if you did it all by yourself.

    1. Yup, many take it for granted when they have all of the extra help that others do not.

    2. Yes, i agree. Breastfed babies pee/poo with such regular frequency while constipation is one of the worries for bottle-fed babies. And we haven’t even talk about diaper rash yet. Lots of energy required no matter how good the baby is.

  7. Personally I think Roxanne is undeserving of the title, I reckon she has used her family line to get that position. She sucks.

    1. I agree and IF she does win, it is due to connections and nothing else. She lacks the grace, beauty, talent and everything else that Ms Hk should have.

  8. Sonija is very deserving of the title. She was the last Miss HK to win MCI. Very impressive!

    1. Don’t worry, sometimes when the bb is fussy when they’re infants, they grow up well-behaved. Whereas those good bb grow up misbehaving more often. No matter how, treasure those moments with your bb cos they grow so fast. If you need time-out, ask hubby to take over for a while.
