Synopsis of “Three Kingdoms RPG” thumbnail

TVB will be airing highly anticipated drama, Three Kingdoms RPG <回到三國>, on July 9th in Hong Kong. The time-travel drama features Raymond Lam (林峯), Kenneth Ma (馬國明), Tavia Yeung (楊怡), Ruco Chan (陳展鵬), Sharon Chan (陳敏之) , and Pierre Ngo (敖嘉年). Three Kingdoms RPG will transport you back to the historical Chinese era with a modern, comedic twist.

Vincent Sima (Kenneth Ma) is a lazy slacker who works as a temporary actor. Addicted to video games, Vincent is passionate in playing the Three Kingdoms video game and becomes a master in game strategy.

Due to a typhoon, Vincent is transported back in time to the Three Kingdoms era, where he meets historical figures, Zhuge Liang (Raymond Lam), Liu Bei (Lee Kwok Lun 李國麟), Zhang Fei (Savio Tsang 曾偉權), and Zhou Yu (Ruco Chan). Utilizing his unusual strategies, Vincent engages in a battle of wits with Zhuge Liang. Vincent becomes a valued strategist in the Three Kingdoms era, rising in prominence and shaping key historical events.

Falling in love with Liu Bei’s maid, Song Yau (Tavia Yeung), Vincent’s life becomes more absorbed in a world he does not truly belong to. Vincent shares one night of intimacy with Song Yau.

Three Kingdoms RPG retells the well known story of the historical period, in which three rival states, Wei, Shu, and Wu engaged in fierce battles. Will Vincent’s modern wit allow him to outwit the most brilliant military strategists of the time? Will Vincent adopt the Three Kingdoms era as his new home? Or is he destined to return to modern Hong Kong and leave behind his true love?

The 25-episode Three Kingdoms RPG is produced by Lau Ka Ho (劉家豪), who resigned from TVB earlier this year to work for another local television station, Now TV. Featuring a troupe of TVB’s most popular actors, Three Kingdoms RPG will likely be a crowd pleaser.

Jayne: The trailer was funny! We get to see the silly side of Kenneth Ma. And the beautiful voice of Raymond Lam spouting poetry.

Raymond is quite convincing in these type of scholarly roles, although the facial hair unnecessarily aged his looks. Raymond filmed “Three Kingdoms RPG” in March 2011 during the height of the Mavis Pan bed photo scandal, so let’s see whether this affected his emotional performance in the series.

The concept of “Three Kingdoms RPG” reminds me of Louis Koo’s “A Step Into the Past.” There will be plenty of anachronistic jokes, even pop musical tunes!

    1. sandcherry says:

This drama series is very similar to an old TVB drama series “A Step into the Past” acted by Louis Koo, Kong Wah, Jessica Husan, Sonjia Kwok and Raymond Lam, and produced in 2001.

      • khanh says:

yes it does seem like a step into the past. even if this series is going to be good it will never be as good as a step into the past. As that was amazing with an excellent actors

        • chompontvb says:

a step into the past was awesome. so RPG will have a hard time matching up to a drama of similar time travelling theme

        • fiona says:

this series isn’t a mega production. can’t be compared to step in the past

        • Funn Lim says:

Maybe we were watching different series but the way I remember, ASITP was bad. The acting by at least THREE actresses were between bad, terrible, DOA and the 2 actors, Ok Louis koo can do comedy but at that time Ray was very raw and basically he was OTT in most scenes eventhough his performance was interesting. The story was ok until the ending trumps then entire series into the idiotic realm since it really is the most ego fanning ending ever. Hated it.

Apart from time traveling theme these 2 series is not alike.

        • fiona says:

I think step into the past is classic.

        • lychii04 says:

Thought of ASITP as well which I loved. Yes there were some raw actors, but the MAIN cast made up for it. Louis was awesome, Jessica was really good and Kong Wah was superb as well. Its a series I can actually rewatch

        • Jayne says:

          Funn,
I am also not a big fan of “A Step in the Past.” The anachronistic jokes quickly got old. Many ancient comedies such as “Can’t Buy Me Love” and “Virtues of Harmony 1″ which rely on this type of humor and modern talk which I find to be annoying.

If not a time-travel series, such a way of writing comes across as a lazy way to delivery jokes. Because it gives me the impression that the writer did not take into account historical decorum to write appropriately funny material.

I hope that there is more humor in “Three Kingdoms RPG” rather than just relying on anachronistic humor.

        • sandcherry says:

Agree with you two, Jayne and Funn.

I don’t like this kind of storyline …… half modern and half history. I would rather just have the traditional history-type drama series.

I used to like “A Step into the Past” until I realized that the male lead actor had to return to the present.

I don’t look forward to watching “Three Kingdoms” because I don’t like this kind of storyline.

        • HeTieShou says:

I don’t mind time traveling series but I think theme is getting abit overused… I guess they are running out of ideas. I used to think that was going to be another adaption of The Three Kingdoms, but I think it isn’t. Therefore, I am a bit disappointed…

        • Funn Lim says:

“I used to like “A Step into the Past” until I realized that the male lead actor had to return to the present. ”

Did he return to the present? No. He stayed back and he fathered Hon Yu!

        • sehseh says:

          @Funn,

Hon Siu Long (Louis character) was sterile in the original novel though :P

        • Kidd says:

The Hong Yu bit is kinda silly. Hong Yu was not an orphan with unknown lineage. His lineage was recorded in history. During the Chu Han battle, he still has his uncle and cousin with him. How can he be Hong Siu Lung’s son?

    2. Veejay says:

Me too can’t wait for series to be aired. I have always like ancient series.

      • vivien says:

me too can’t wait for 3K because:

        -insanely funny! LOL
-story about modern man in 3K sounds interesting
-travelling in time series are always hot topic
        - KM, LF, Ruco,hot casting!

      • HeTieShou says:

Me too and have only liked some modern series lately but I have always loved ancient series more…

    3. vivien says:

LF and KM together will make an awesome duo! LOL KM is insanely funny!

      • Gar says:

Totally agree with you. Love it when KM acts in comedies, brings out another side of him that I find adorable. Plus there’s LF…hot, hot, hot! Looking forward to see him in a serious ancient drama.

    4. iampheng says:

aW, my comment didn’t show up :T

Well, I have been anticipating this series for a while now. I think this role is great for Kenneth haha despite the computer slacker role in the beginning.

I like the casting very much, especially with the rise of Kenneth and Ruco as leading men. :-) Tavia is main female lead? She’s okay, I guess. This seems more like a story about men anyway.

      • vivien says:

Male cast excellent LF and KM and RC. Female cast disappointing and unappealing TY and LKK. Won’t TY new face look strange in ancient times? LOL

    5. Kidd says:

Hmm. I thought the premise of this series is Kenneth Ma travelling into the computer game world instead of actually going back in time?

Anyway, I check the cast in wiki. Kenneth won’t be the only one who travels back in time (or into the game). Raymond Chiu’s character will also travel back in time. The wiki info said Raymond Chiu is Kenneth’s rival and Raymond Chiu is said to be a computer programmer. I guess they become rival because Kenneth always break the game he design? Lol.

I’m a bit disappointed that Tavia play a made up character instead of a real life character like the others in the 3 Kingdom Era. But, I guess they can’t use a real life character because they can’t change the history too much.

      • vivien says:

it doesn’t matter. We need a good series for this summer and this KM and LF series look fun enough LOL

      • Fox says:

Um curious of which side Raymond Chiu stay for? And is his role a historical one? Hehe if he is Feng Su I’ll say interesting.

        • Kidd says:

According to wikipedia, he will become Xu Shu (徐庶) (canto: Tsui Shu). His original name in 2012 is Tsui Dong Yeung.

        • Fox says:

Oh it’s him. So Raymond Chiu will also stay with Liu family but then have to go? Because of MM’s chac?

BUt Xu Shu in the novel was a kind of loyalty character. Even he was forced to work for Cao Cao, he didn’t help him much to attack Liu Bei. Then I wonder how Txb will change the chac Xu Shu. Maybe will make him become a baddie as he is the rival of goodie chac.

      • Masaharu says:

If the main character has a rival who also fell into the past/”alternate world”, it reminds of Fushigi Yuugi. The lead character Miaka fell into a book’s world, and somehow her friend followed her in and both of them ended up on rivaling sides of that “world”.

        • Fox says:

Fushigi Yuugi, I forgot this one. Miaka is one of my most hated female character, after Carol in Ouke no Monshou – the story of a girl and N kings who kidnap, find, kidnap, find, kidnap, find, kidnap, find million times. Carol is also a time traveler.

        • Masaharu says:

          Fox, I hate Miaka too…haha

        • Fox says:

Hi 5. I feel that even Yui is kinda annoying, I like her more than Miaka. And thank to Miaka, I also hate Tamahome. I like Nuriko!!! (S)he is so adorable and when her(is) past was revealed, I was touched. To me Nuriko is the light of Fushigi Yuugi.

      • Funn Lim says:

I thought he traveled back in time and probably used strategies he learned from the game itself.

So it is travel back in time or is it Tron, travel into the computer world? Because it makes a huge difference.

        • Jayne says:

          Funn,
“So it is travel back in time or is it Tron, travel into the computer world?”

It was stated in the Chinese article that Kenneth traveled to the Three Kingdoms era, but not stated clearly as to whether it was back to the historical past or only the computer world.

        • Fox says:

It’s said that he went back to the real historical past through a time tunnel, not into a computer game.

      • 1ni says:

If this is so then the theme of this series is the same with Nic Tse & Charlene Choi china series ‘the swordsman’. Enter in computer game.

    6. Lucia says:

I’ve been looking forward this serie for a longggggggg time. I like all the casts in this serie especially Kenneth, Tavia, and Raymond Lam.

      • YanYanKong says:

The one person who liked Tavia in this sereis. I’ve always liked Tavia, especially when she’s working with her good friends Ray, Kenneth, Ron etc.

    7. josie says:

So is Kenneth the lead over LF in this series? Did ken get more screen time b/c filming was during the mavis scandal?

Anyway, hope this series is good. I like that ray plays another historical figure, like in ASitP.

      • Funn Lim says:

Zhuge Liang was a very important figure during that time, or at least that’s how Romance of 3 Kingdoms tell us and since this is like pitting one strategist against another, I will say equal lead.

      • Moses says:

Raymond Is rich man son and he sing the theme song ,so i think he lead since his is rich boy .

        • Fox says:

He is rich for 33 years of his life, what’s wrong of continuing rich? He has leading roles for 10 years, what’s wrong of continuing lead? Hehe. Not the day one or the first time of him to be rich and leading a series, so everything is same as last time.

        • Gar says:

This has nothing to do with him coming from a wealthy family. He earned his current status from his hard work and the efforts he put in during the last 10+ years and I’m really happy to see that it has all paid off for him. The only thing missing is to win the Best Actor Award but from the looks of it, Ma Ming is looking strong for this year so LF might have to wait yet again.

        • Hannahh says:

i’m not a fan LF but his hard really admired him. This year is Ma Ming year, LF def have to wait hehe

        • Kidd says:

I see Kenneth as the lead in this drama, or Kenneth and Raymond Lam as co-lead of equal standing.

Raymond sings the themesong not because he’s rich. It’s because he’s a singer and can sing.

If being rich can make you a lead actor in TVB, Vinci Wong would have been lead already.

        • Fox says:

Without any doubt, I don’t think TVB will consider MM higher than LF. From any aspect.

        • Cheerry says:

I agree with you, to be honest… why make Raymond more famous than the others who also graduated with him on the same isn’t famous like him… He isn’t that handsome, he isn’t good acting neither… he can’t sing well… out there lot of actor or singer is better than him…

        • Gar says:

          @Cherrry:

Since you say that LF can’t really sing nor dance and isn’t even good looking then name me one person in his generation that fits the description of all 3 requirements. I for one think he is an all around performer/artist who is great at what he does.

        • Gar says:

Correction: I meant sing, act and looks as the 3 criteria.

      • vivien says:

I think MM and LF are both impirtant. Ma Ming for the hilaeious and witty comedy and LF for the serious intelligence.

    8. Fox says:

I think ASITP is more serious and had a stronger background story as it has a novel to base on. Althought Txb dun follow the novel much, the bones are still used.

In fact I think this 3K is similar to a silly version of Ryuroden (Dragon’s son) – a manga more after watching the trailer. Hope LKH wont make it too comedy like and can balance the serious and funny moment.

      A 35 year old gamer? Uhm…

      • Funn Lim says:

There are 35 year old gamers.

And ASITP was nonsense. The ending was most vomit inducing for me, to have the revelation that the emperor did everything he did subsequently because of him. Oh please… as if…

      • Moses says:

I am 36 and i still play video games,so what big deal ,most man play video games after working hours ,it better than visit night club or spa.

        • vivien says:

          Ditto!

        • Fox says:

It isn’t a matter of age but a package of age, look and pouting :P . I supplemented above.

BTW, playing game after working hours is different to addicted to game and becoming a gamer. The definition of gamer in here is not a normal man plays online game or video game but someone addicted to game.

    9. Hannahh says:

I love time traveler theme. Def gonna watch it! Story sound interesting n good cast

    10. Kidd says:

I’m looking forward to watch Cheung Chung Chi. It is not very often that he gets to play a good character. In this series, he will play Zhao Yun.

    11. exoidus says:

This series looks like a cheap low-budget production made in China (e.g costumes) a long time ago that have time-travelled to the TVB production in present time :D

The CGI in this series is basically no better or possibly worse than “journey to the west”. Suppose TVB didn’t bother investing in new tech assuming the audience wouldn’t have any choice to continue watching their crappy series with CGI from acient times and bad STORY!

      • Fox says:

I totally agree with you this time :D .

      • LeilaFan says:

Exoidus, do you use Raidcall or Paltalk voice chat software?

I’m looking forward to this series, TVB keep pushing it back eversince begin of last year.
And talking about CGI, you should see Journey to the West (China version), now that is too much CGI. TVB don’t use that much CGI compared to China series. Too much CGI is not good.

        • exoidus says:

Nope, should ask Jayne to implement video/voice chat function here, LOL

          That would be fun :D

Yeah, agree too much CGI is not good especially when it looks so fake (TVB)

        • LeilaFan says:

          I was thinking that Jayne
Maybe we should created a voice chat room for Jaynestars. And all the fans can get together and chat about entertainment, LOL!
Paltalk.com is good, free voice chat room as well as webcam.
No release date for this series yet? Darn

        • Fox says:

          LeilaFan, 9 July.

      • fiona says:

@exoidus: well RPG isn’t a big hollywood production. what do you expect? as long as the story is good and enjoyable and the parodies are funny and witty i’m all up for this :)

        • exoidus says:

Just find it strange that TVB hasn’t improved their CGI after all these years and good story is a rarity in TVB these days.

It does look funny just hope it’s not lame :)

        • Fox says:

Txb has to invest in the cosmetics for the women in Qing dynasty, exoidus. They dun have extra money for the CGI :P .

    12. krize150 says:

I can’t help, but feel bias towards the first rough draft of the cast with Ron, Fala and Steven Ma. The preview with that cast looked so good.

    13. Funn Lim says:

I am really looking forward to this ever since I saw that darn poster!! When?! WHEN?! And now there is Zhuge Liang, one of my top 3 most favourite historical person, most admired!! Zhuge Liang wins, he always does! He will win!! Ok he wasn’t outwitted but he did his level best to maintain what he could maintain. I just hope (and I can almost see it!) Kenneth doesn’t pout, too much. And it does suffer from too few people in battle scene but ahhhh TVB is under tight budget. I don’t care! Oh please not so much modern reference, please!

Other than that, I am really looking forward to this. Kenneth looks good in his ancient garb with moustache and all. Seriously though, he should be Zhuge Liang AND Oscar Leung should be that slacker. That to me will be ideal casting.

      • Funn Lim says:

But I really want to see the BBJX effect which is kinda missing in most time travelling series. Meaning the time changes the person, not the era changes because of the person. I hope by the end of the series if our hero remains in the past, he will change in his behaviour like in the past. That is the one aspect I like about BBJX.

      • Funn Lim says:

“The concept of “Three Kingdoms RPG” reminds me of Louis Koo’s “A Step Into the Past.” There will be plenty of anachronistic jokes, even pop musical tunes! ”

        Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

        • vivien says:

Ma Ming is hilarity Funn! What’s wrong if the series is funny?

        • Funn Lim says:

Because I will expect it to be funny. What I won’t expect is story integrity. But like all TVB series it will be silly at first and all those pop culture reference and midway it will become serious and in the end turn silly again. I hope to watch a serious version. I am sick of those modern day reference.

    14. fez says:

Has anyone heard or played the game in real life before? Is it really that popular? I’m thinking its something like warcraft/diablo?

      • Fox says:

I played but not the online version. I played the offline version. It is very popular in few years ago. Now I’m not sure because there are tons of new online games.

This one is a RPG type, not like Warcraft or Diablo. Warcraft has the RPG version but Diablo dun have.

A famous RPG game that you’ll know is Final Fantasy.

        • Alfred says:

Diablo is a great Action RPG game.
Diablo’s effect on the market was significant; it had many imitators and its style of combat went on to be used by many MMORPGs that came after.

Warcraft is a great Real time strategy game.

      • Funn Lim says:

I played I believe the 3 kingdoms game, kinda like… what’s the? Civilisation? All I know is every major character I play dies. I am not good at it. As Liu Bei, Cao Cao and even Zhuge Liang they all died in my hands. So I’d rather read the books and imagine I could have been one of them.

      • HeTieShou says:

Is this series based on a game?? I thought it would be based on the novel The Romance of the 3 kingdoms?? I guess not…

    15. vivien says:

I’m really anticipating this series and even more after the poster and trailer come out. Ma Ming is hilarious and the series seems witty

    16. Moses says:

Jayne ,will China ban this serial since China is banning time travel serial?
What do anyone here think ,shall China ban this drama?

    17. fiona says:

Looking forward and anticipate this series so much. ma ming is indeed very funny :)

    18. Funn Lim says:

I read the release was delayed. 100% because of Ray or because it is part awful and they need further editing? Or does the word editing exist in TVB?

      • exoidus says:

Hahaha, no need to it’s basically a cosplay :D

        • Fox says:

Don’t underestimate cosplay. Do you think it’s easy to cosplay? If you think so, try to cosplay one time and you will know that to cosplay successfully, you will have to do many things.

    19. Funn Lim says:

Finally saw the trailer. Not impressed. I wonder about some casting decision. I still feel the series is lacking at the grandeur atmosphere at that time and if I have to hear Har Yu and his.. limerick or whatever you call that I will go insane. Not impressed at all and Ray from the trailer looks like he is bored. Hopefully the series is better than what the trailer shows. I am still excited though even if I feel Pierre Ngo as Sun Quan and some others are just weird.

    20. Jk says:

I’ve been looking forward to watch this drama,,. Kenneth and tavia together so sweet. Love tavia singing and acting. She rocks! ;) im just giving my own opinion.

    21. Fox says:

Oops, forget to mention, so this series is following the novel? The history in the novel is what I mean.

    22. Hannah says:

From the looks, the plot revolves around MM’s character. I guess we have to watch to see of it’s equal screen time.

    23. Cheerry says:

TVB Series become boring, hope this is going to be good… I like to watch these Actor and Actress..

    24. smurf120 says:

I’m looking forward to this show – it looks fun – not expecting high drama.

A Step Into the Past is a massive brilliant novel. I remember watching it and thought the acting was mediocre and lots of Louis Koo mugging. Now that I look back, it was probably last epic ancient production.

They are translating over at spcnet – running on 5 years now?:

      http://www.spcnet.tv/forums/showthread.php?21972-A-step-into-the-past-%26%2323547%3B%26%2331206%3B%26%2335760%3B-by-Huang-Yi

I love this story – also truly made me appreciate that TVB was able to adapt using limited budget, personnel, and 30 episode format.

      • Fox says:

Huang Yi’s novels are often super long, except the short ones that he purposed to write them shortly. So it’s reasonable to take 5-6 years to translate.

But TVB’s adaption dun cover and follow all the details in the novel. They changed a lot. However, can’t say that I dun like these changes.

      • skinnymocha says:

True. The acting was horrendous, especially concerning some of the female leads. The worst offender was the princess (sorry, I can’t quite recall the actress’ name). But it was refreshing to see Louis in a different role and the whole production had a certain spark to it. Of course the scenery and choice of locations also added a certain vibe that set it apart from other TVB productions. Less tacky, shall we say?

P.S. Thank you for the link~!

      • Kidd says:

I’ve never watch ASITP and I don’t really like TOB. But, I like LWOLAP. So, I decide to read FYFY. It’s an interesting novel, and I like some of the characters that are missing in the series, but, it’s very long. I’ve since taken a break after book 2. Might pick it up again in the future. I like the fight scenes in FYFY more than Jin Yong’s novel.

Kidd – you should give English ASTIP a try – some readers thought the English version comes off less crass than the Chinese version (I can’t read Chinese).

The story is very well written, funny, and the strategy parts are interesting.

        • Fox says:

I like the strategies in Huang Yi’s novel. FYFY is super long :P and nothing related to LWOLAP except the names. BTW, I dun like Hon Pak in FYFY, he is just lucky.

        • Fox says:

P/S: After reading Da Tang the novel, I start to think that Sau Ning and Yuk Chi in TOB can’t compare to them. I really like the character of Yuk Chi in the novel. She is a heroin. Sau Ning is not bad but she is too young and grows up with too much love, a xiao jie type. The chac that I hate the most is Goddess =.=. She is so annoying in the novel, especially when she trapped Tsi Lin in the bed. Such a goddess.

However, Da Tang is an interesting novel. Dun think of TOB or Wong Jing’s Da Tang when reading the novel. They are both bad adaption. The strategy in Da Tang is even more interesting than FYFY, especially when 2 main guys are unreal character. Huang Yi did so good to bring two unreal character into historical background logically.

        • smurf120 says:

I really wish I could read Chinese – is there Cantonese audio version available since Huang Yi is from Hong Kong?

The translation for ASTIP is stalled (someone said 75% completion) on spcnet. I tried to read comic book version but that pretty much loses XSL’s thoughts and strategies. I think someone started Datong translation but I don’t dare click on it.

        • Fox says:

I think the comic of FYFY is pretty ok. It follows the storyline stated in the book quite tight. The comic of Da Tang is slightly better and I like the expressions of the characters. However the storyline is a bit messy and cut.

Huang Yi’s novels are pretty hard to translate due to his word choice (not as easy as the new authors).

      Poster: LOVE
      Trailer: meh

I want beautiful costumes, grand architecture and sweeping vistas. But it’s TVB, so who am I kidding? And my word, can the acting be any more bland (save for Kenneth)?

Oh well, I’m a sucker for time-travel so I’m more than happy to check it out. I feel rather spoiled though having just finished Rooftop Prince and Queen In-hyun’s Man (the latter of which I absolutely adored!).

    26. Applelim says:

Agree!! sounds like Step in the past. Kenneth Ma is funny from the trailer. Really looking forward to this series

    27. Amy says:

This def look promising! And is there a series in TVB that travels to the future?

    28. pandamao says:

Man I really wish Ha Yu played a bigger role than Kenneth’s modern day father. He’s so freakin funny!

    29. MARS says:

Cant wait for this series to come out, dying to see fung in ancient series, the one was FACE TO FATE is so awesome.

    30. gold4canada says:

Yes, been waiting for this one for a long time! It does remind me of A Step into the Past, one of my all-time favourites. I just hope TVB doesn’t mess with the historical facts too much.

    31. a-pop says:

I really dun know why they put worst picture of Tavia. There are more nicer picture of Tavia in RPG sucha as tis http://ww3.sinaimg.cn/bmiddle/66323ee5jw1dtpj6sakfjj.jpg

      • a-pop says:

She really look younger version of Maggie Cheung Hooi Yi.

      • vivien says:

        too much photoshop

      • Fox says:

Such high cheekbones. I wonder why Txb actresses like to make their cheekbones that high? It is said that high cheekbones are not good for the fate of the husband.

        • a-pop says:

lol.. why need to be superstitious. Bad luck or good luck not depends on facial. Even wife low cheekbones can bring bad luck to husband and high cheekbones can bring their husband good luck .

Does her cheekbones really high ? I cant notice it.I thought nothin wrong on her’s cheekbones

        • a-pop says:

opps.. sori for misunderstood your statement. However,I believe ladies with high or low cheekbones does not affected their fate of the husband.

        • smurf120 says:

My mother explained that high cheekbones usually refer to more privileged upbringing resulting in higher maintenance and quicker temper so culturally women with high cheekbones = bad luck (headache) for husband during face readings – not necessarily reference to finances.

        • Fox says:

Yup, it’s face reading to say so. Not that all the cases are like that but I just wonder why the Txb girls like to make cheekbones high like this because it isn’t good as in face reading. Normally, girls remake their faces for 2 reasons: (1)to look better and (2) to change fate. Fate can’t be happened in this case, so its purpose is that to make the girls look better?

Her cheekbones weren’t high and I like her old face with normal cheekbones. I’ve the feeling that her cheekbones are dropping. I still say the same thing: TY was kinda pretty and elegant.

    32. fiona says:

new RPG trailer very funny! http://v.pps.tv/play_31TH8L.html

      • fiona says:

this is some introduction for 3 Kingdom RPG: http://ww1.sinaimg.cn/large/70d711c9jw1du6vz80l3mj.jpg

        • fiona says:

Look at the strong male casts for 3 Kingdom RPG! :D

Can’t say the same for the female side. Looks weak.

        • fiona says:

Ma ming is so funny and the peace sign in the painting is classic! http://ww1.sinaimg.cn/large/6482e5f1gw1du7brzwg1zj.jpg

        • Fox says:

Finally right place for Kaki :) .

Lucky that MM dun turn the opposite site of the V hand gesture or he’ll smear (as he said he likes to do), lolz. Should be careful with this V sign.

        • vivien says:

ROFL that V peace sign in ancient history is hilarious!

        • Funn Lim says:

Fiona, thanks for the images. Didn’t like them because the poster was better. Anyway the more I see Tavia’s picture, the more I thought her character is some dead woman in spirit form. She just reminds me of that sort of role. And I too feel the male casting is ok but the female casting is not, starting with Tavia who is too old.

        • Funn Lim says:

Peace sign or not, I still think that would not make the story any more endearing. I suppose this series will go towards slapstick and those pop culture references which is very very very very tiring and so not funny. Where is truly funny stuff like how No good Either Way which has rather sassy witty lines?

        • vivien says:

          @Funn

I thought I was the only one who think TY is out of place in this series LOL!

        • lol says:

they might make 3K endearing by making Kenneth fell in love with Tavia and best friends with all the ancient characters but had to separate when he needs to go back. Maybe we will see a scene of Tavia don’t want to let him go back

        • Funn Lim says:

lol, that is not endearing. That is predictable. Either he stays and marries Tavia and live his life out as the historical figure or he goes back to present and meets some lookalike, Tavia to begin with and becomes a changed man. I suspect the latter since he has a family in the present and the whole idea is to change him into a better person. We shall see!!

        • lol says:

I think another endearing point is his change towards a better man and later have a family of his own and maybe one long time later when he’s older and successful he meet a Tavia lookalike just like you said.

        • Funn Lim says:

Isn’t he supposed to be in his 30s? How then can he have a family of his own and then meets Tavia? That would be a sequel : 3 Kingdoms RPG : Divorce. Nahhhhh

        • lol says:

TVB can always do those 5 years later, 10 years later, 20 years later thing :P

        • lol says:

or maybe he never got married for a long time although he’s a successful man and years later he met the Tavia lookalike and the series open ended there. The end :P

        • a-pop says:

I dun agree female cast are weak. At least Tavia have pulling power which enable attract her fans to watch 3kingdom RPG bcause of her( I’m the one of them). Whose know she might give good performance in tis series and maintain good on screen chemistry with Kenneth Ma.
I agree Tavia does not age well and not as pretty as her younger time, but let give her some time to improve her appearance. Wat she really need is good rest, eat more food and LESS make up. Since last year she have not stop slave by TVB series after series make her look haggard.I really hope ahe can stop doing filming for TVB series for half year.

        • vivien says:

TVB’s problem: no young fresh pretty big time actress. All the current repeated actresses are already 30+++++

        • vivien says:

My premonition tells me 3K will be popular in mainland and HK based on the scans and trailers that fiona put above. ROFL

        • vivien says:

maybe can make KM and LF get more fans!

        • fiona says:

@vivien: yes 3Kingdom might be a big HIT. It looks catchy and uptodate with current gossips and cultures such as the ‘chok’ and ‘peace sign’.

contrast to Witness Insecurity which is recycling the 80′s and 90′s storyline all over again and look so outdated, 3 Kingdom and Tiger Cubs look like award winners with their up to date storyline.

        • fiona says:

@vivien: TVB’s fault for reusing same people such as Tavia and Linda until people got tired seeing them already. They should’ve promoted more faces such as Elaine yiu, Nancy wu, mandy wong, lin xia wei to first lead already.

        • Funn Lim says:

I wouldn’t make such a sweeping statement but generally I do think 3kingdoms may be ratings winner since young ones may watch as well or Tiger Cubs for those who likes those sort of series but there is always a healthy market for a good love story.

    33. YanYanKong says:

Jayne: “Raymond filmed “Three Kingdoms RPG” in March 2011 during the height of the Mavis Pan bed photo scandal, so let’s see whether this affected his emotional performance in the series.”

I think his crying and drinking over the scandal made his voice more scratchy and sexy, so that it sounds really good or well suited for his ancient character.
That’s how the poetry sounded so good when he said it.

      • Fox says:

You mean his voice in the promotion trailer (39″) or the oversea long trailer (4’25″). If you mean the promotion trailer then he has just filmed it right before going to Toronto :D . I dun rmb that he has any poetry in the oversea long trailer.

    34. Kidd says:

I just saw episode 1 of the ‘travel into computer game’ series starring Nic Tse and Charlene Choi. I’m impressed with the CGI. The series look very futuristic and the GCI pet of Kenny Kwan’s character look very realistic. Btw, Kenny Kwan really does look like someone coming out of a manga. He’s so beautiful. The series has a bit of idol drama feel because of the beautiful people in it.

      • Funn Lim says:

So THAT’S WHAT the trailer is about! I was thinking what show is that! Not watching because Charlene Choi.. NO!

        • Kidd says:

Charlene’s voice was dubbed with a very good voice actress. Plus, base on her acting in episode 1, I think she acts fine. If it’s showing on TV, at least, you try watching 1 episode and see if you like it or not.

        • Funn Lim says:

Dubbing has created false impression. Dubbing should be like it was for Kara Hui in QSHF; it complements her very expressive performance making QSHF worthwhile to watch for her alone. For Charlene Choi, it hides her flaws; that is her acting which is poor masked by a great voice as you said her dubbing voice being a very good voice actress. I have seen enough of Charlene’s so called acting and I wouldn’t want to be traumatised by any second more. I shall leave her improved “voice” and performance for her would be fans to appreciate.

There are times you watch a series for someone. Then there are times you avoid a series for someone.

        • Funn Lim says:

“There are times you watch a series for someone. Then there are times you avoid a series for someone.”

          Sorry bad english.

          Should be…

There are times you watch a series for someone. Then there are times you avoid a series because of someone.

        • vivien says:

agreed. Great voice only help to cover Charlene’s flaws LOL

      • vivien says:

Charlene Choi? Idol drama! No thanks! LOL

      • HeTieShou says:

You should watch a series for more than just the cast. I did that once and told myself not to do it again.

    35. simplitee says:

      Not interested at all.
