Tavia Yeung Refuses to Renew TVB Contract; Opening New Company with Moses Chan

In times where TVB is desperately searching for new blood to replace artistes that have left for job offers in Mainland China, the station’s dramas have been headlined by Miss Hong Kong winners. Watching as newcomers take over TVB, 36-year-old Tavia Yeung (楊怡) is rumured to be the next actress leaving the station.

Been Frozen for Four Months?

After the departure of Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) and Kate Tsui (徐子珊), Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) and Tavia Yeung are now the only remaining ladies from the Four Fadans. Rumored to be upset about the continuous promotion of newer actresses such as Grace Chan (陳凱琳), it is speculated that Tavia has teamed up with Moses Chan (陳豪) with an idea of opening their own entertainment company in China.

TVB managers have already begun negotiations with Tavia, whose contract is due to expire in April 2016. Unfortunately, Tavia showed no indication of renewing her contract. Tavia was noticeably absent from the 2015 TVB Anniversary Gala. Since filming The Last Imperial Physician <末代御醫> with Roger Kwok (郭晉安) in July, Tavia has not filmed another series and was “frozen” by TVB for four months due to the uncertainty of her contract.

Without any current filming obligations, Tavia was casually seen shopping for athletic clothing at a local mall. Although she had three series aired this year, Eye in the Sky <天眼>, Wudang Rules <潮拜武當>, and Momentary Lapse of Reason <收規華>, it is evident that Tavia has given up on the TV Queen race, especially with her absence at this year’s Anniversary Gala.

  1. has Tavia won best actress before? i am not a fan, but hope her all the best! it is TVB lost that she is leaving.

  2. I look forward to dramas which includes Tavia other then the Wudang Rules. If she and Kenneth leaves, there is seriously no point to watch those drama anymore. How about Charmaine? She wasn’t present either. Raymond Lam left is still a big loss till today. I don’t have the urge/motivation to watch any drama next year… There’s no point watching a strong male lead and a newbie female lead or the other way round, it just don’t feel right.

  3. I thought she would be the one fadan from the generation to stay. She seems to be very loyal to TVB and she seldom venture out to do other things compared to the other fadans. She only did one China drama, right?

      1. @arc78 Yeah, me too. I thought between Linda and Tavia, Linda would leave first too.

Hope Linda won’t leave then. This is great opportunity for her. As all the other fadans leave TVB, Linda could rise to the level of 1st sister.

This was what happen to Charmaine Sheh last time. Charmaine Sheh was heavily promoted and given a lot of lead opportunity and her acting grew with it. But, she only became first sister after the 5 big fadans of the 90s left TVB.

      2. @kidd: Who are the 5 big fadans of the 90s? I would imagine Ada Choi is 1 of them. I feel that Tavia has stagnated….not a big fan of hers but don’t dislike her either. I’ll be devastated if Ruco leaves. But would be happy for Ruco if he leaves for bigger things, greener pastures. I’ll support and follow Ruco wherever he goes. Love this guy big time !!!

      3. @lml1977 “the 5 big fadans of the 90s” – It varies depending on the person. Ada wasn’t that popular back then, she was always supporting actress/small roles, but seldom main. While Gigi lai was more like a freelancer. She was seldom in TVB dramas, more popular in movies. Everyone’s list will be different because back then there were many actors and actresses unlike now.

      4. @lml1977

The officlal top 5 fadans of the 90s are
        – Kenix Kwok
        – Jessica Hester Hsuan
        – Flora Chan
        – Ada Choi
        – Maggie Cheung

        @kk12345

No, the 5 top fadan list did not vary. There were other popular actresses beside the 5 back then, the list is fix. Just like the ‘4 Heavenly Kings’ list and the ‘Ancient China 4 Great Beauty’ list. I myself, for a long time, thought Esther Kwan was on the list, but, after checking, I found out she’s even though she was very popular in the 90s too. Gigi Lai was never on the list either.

      5. @kidd agreed. Charm cheated the system a little because by the time she became queen, it was due to a mass exodus of the original fadans. But she starred in many lackluster dramas for TVB for a long time too. It seems as soon as the artists become Queen, their roles stagnate. That’s exactly what happened with Charm and is happening to Tavia now. I dunno, TVB has the Midas touch with the winners and then turns them into losers when they decide not to utilize them to their full potential.

I think Linda and Tavia are the only talented older fadans left. If Tavia goes, that leaves Linda for the throne.

      6. @coralie Yes, Charm was lucky back then. I wonder if Linda will stay.

        @kidd
If you are asking for the official list of the top 5 fadans, this is TVB’s official list. Scroll down to the bottom and you will see.

Edit: I see where you got your list from, but no that list is wrong. That list was written by fans. The official one is different and has Gigi Fu inside and was pretty much the same list that I saw more than 10 years ago in the newspapers. If the list changed since then, maybe TVB changed it, but I kind of doubt it. But whatever. It is in the past anyway.

  4. aww ill miss seeing Tavia on tv but tvb is getting worse these days and she should leave for better opportunities

  5. She must be making frequent trips to Korea again. I can see differences, chest included but this is a better upgrade. I hope her evolution is complete.

  6. Hope she doesn’t leave yet. Still waiting for TOT2………..sob………….
It’s strange that Tavia always seems to be missing from the TVB anniversary galas.

    1. @isay: TOT…one of my all-time fave TVB dramas. And all becoz of Ruco. I feel the bromance between Ruco, Raymond and Louis is more real than Keith-Mavis relationship. Of coz, I must say Keith-Mavis makes a great pairing in this drama. And yes I’m all for TOT2. But I doubt TVB will make a sequel. There’s lots of noise out there urging TVB to make TOT2 but all have fallen on deaf ears.

  8. Sad!!!! But understandable. If I were her I’d leave too. New faces are all around TVB. The friends of her generation are not there anymore. Most importantly, there are no competition anymore which all of the sudden feel meaningless for her to even complete. She doesn’t have to stoop to Grace’s generation’s level, and it’s like comparing apples and oranges, unfair for her if she loses to them, and no point to win among a bunch of new and talentless kids. Totally different level. Linda, Nancy should leave too. They are too good for TVB now. I’d support them as long as they don’t go to main land.

  9. Like Tavia. True if Tavia & Kenneth leaves, little left in TVB to watch. However, don’t see her as well prepared for the outside world, and especially with Moses?? Hoping things turn out well for her.

  10. This is really not good news but TVB asked for it at this rate this station is gonna fall cause all they have is Grace and Sisley will NEVER bring up the rating up for new series

Its just reakky sad to see what TVB has become i grew up watching this station

Tavia did choose a good path wish her and all the other artist thats leaving this station all the LUCK!!!!

    1. @sherla1019 No, TVB will not fall. TVB has gone through many changes of artists and still standing.

As for Grace and Sisley. No, they are not all TVB have. TVB still have other actresses and they are still actively acting. Isn’t just a few days ago there’s news of TVB casting the actress name Ali Lee as lead.

Grace’s and Sisley’s acting will also improve as they act in more series and gain more experience. When they do, they will gain more fans and bring in the rating.

Saying ‘NEVER’ is too permanent a statement.

      1. @kidd I really don’t see who is still left …and all the newbies don’t really have the potential to lead a new drama cause they don’t have the experience that all veteran artist do and plus they all went through from being cameos to the top in which the newcomers dont maybe u don’t relate to what I’m saying but it true!! U prb didn’t watch the old series in which Linda Tavia Mole Ron Bosco Kenneth Fala n so etc filming cameos roles before they all became popular

U just don’t throw inexperience artist to lead in new series

      2. @sherla1019 I did watch the series where Linda, Tavia, Moses, Bosco, Ron, Kenneth, Fala filming cameo roles and also saw how they rose to the top. Except maybe for Raymond, Kenneth and Tavia, all rised very fast to lead. Linda, especially, faced the same criticism that you are giving to the Sisley and Grace now.

It’s just the same circle all over again. Linda, Tavia, Fala, Kate, Ron, Bosco, Kenneth, etc were compared unfavorably to Jessica, Kenix, Flora, Esther, Galen, Micheal. Now, the new batch of artists are being compared unfavorably to the Linda, Fala, Tavia batch.

Now that the Linda Tavia, Fala batch has established themselves and leaving TVB, viewers start to miss them. All the criticism about them rising too fast when they were younger were forgotten. They were now seen as good and true fadan and siu sang.

So, these new batch will gain fans, experience etc and will have people watch series for them. Furthermore, there’s still the oldbies like Nancy Wu, Natalie Tong, Mandy Wong left.

      3. @kidd u still don’t get what I’m trying to state here newcomers dont have experience to lead a new drama to be the main character that why they getting unwanted back lashes sigh….whatever there no point in this everyones got there own opinion it’s all good

      4. @sherla1019 Uh, you are not just trying to state that newcomers don’t have experience to lead a new drama to be the main character that why they getting unwanted back lashes.

This statement alone is no problem. I also agree with this statement.

But, your earlier statement is that TVB will fall because all they have is Grace and Sisley and these girls will NEVER bring up the rating up for new series.

That won’t happen. Yes, Grace and Sisley and other leading actor/actress who did badly will get backlash for their poor performance. But, TVB will not fall because of that. TVB has gone through many bad leading men and women and still standing.

TVB having only Grace and Sisley is also a fallacy because TVB still has Nancy Wu, Mandy Wong, Priscilla Wong, Kristal Tin, Eliza Sam, whom TVB has also casted as lead in series before and their series did not bomb.

In your next post, you made it sound like the path to lead for the Linda, Fala, Bosco batch was somehow different from this new batch, which is not.

I was just trying to show that their path to lead is the same.

  11. If moses opens his entertainment company isn’t it a conflict of interest with his tvb job? I thought he’s infinitely loyal to tvb and tvb has been treating him very well?

  12. She already achieved everything in tvb already. She’s been tvb queen already and it makes sense to seek the outside world.

  13. Tavia is my favourite TVB actress of all time. She didn’t need a beauty pageant to get into the entertainment industry; she took a class and truly worked her way up. She’s the only actress to have won every category once and she is so humble. You can tell because she doesn’t feel the need to post selfies on social media or anything (don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with it, but I think it says something about a celebrity who is not trying to seek even more attention), and she has basically never had any negative rumors spread about her. These are my opinions of her and are the reasons I really like her.

So, I was really upset that she was given such poor roles in TVB in the past few years. After reading this article, I feel like I don’t have very much left to watch at TVB now that Tavia’s gone too (all the other ones I liked are mostly gone as well). But, I’m happy that she’s moving onto greater things and she’s always going to be my favorite! I truly wish her all the best. She’s got her own little legacy at TVB that a lot of people won’t forget 🙂

  14. Observing the demise of TVB’s dominance in HK since 2005. Tavia leaving is just another nail in the coffin. My feeling about Tavia has always been neutral. I wish her all the best.
