Tavia Yeung’s Back Problems Persist
After hurting her back five years ago when filming for Sweetness in the Salt <碧血鹽梟>, Tavia Yeung (楊怡) never fully recovered, with old pains often cropping up now and then. Unfortunately for the actress, she also suffered from a slipped disc condition since 2012. With her female fighter role in Noblesse Oblige <宦海奇官>, Tavia’s pain was pushed to the maximum, causing her to cut out high heels altogether.
While filming for Noblesse Oblige, Tavia minimized the use of stunt doubles and filmed the majority of the action scenes herself. While there were extensive wirework scenes, Noblesse Oblige paled in comparison to the exhaustion Tavia felt on the set of 2004’s Twin of Brothers <大唐雙龍傳>, where she was required to fight and ride horses every day. As well, Tavia had to endure the hot and humid weather in China for four months.
Tavia’s back may not be in the best condition, but she continues to take part in dramas that require a lot of action scenes. Last year, she filmed Eye in the Sky <天眼> and Wudang Worship <潮拜武當>. Currently filming Against the War of Tangxi <逆戰塘西>, Tavia’s next project will be The Last Imperial Physician <末代御醫>.
Not worried about overworking herself, Tavia has taken safety precautions to protect her back. Besides wearing a waist guard, Tavia visits a physiotherapist, a acupuncturist, and limits the intake of sour foods. As well, Tavia opts for flat-heeled shoes and would limit wearing high heels unless it is for special events.
Will Wait For Right Time Before Tying the Knot
With Tavia’s busy acting career, she is not in a rush to get married with Him Law (羅仲謙) despite frequent wedding rumors. Tavia shrugged, “Never planned it. I don’t even know what time I’ll be getting off work tonight. Even if I plan for a facial tomorrow, I don’t know if that would happen or not. Why plan so far down in the future when you can live in the moment.”

Back aches and slipped discs which cause them can be the bane of one’s life. I hope Tavia will slow down and look after her back most carefully.

It looks like TVB wants Tavia to break new ground by moving to the kung fu genre. If so, this poor girl will continue to suffer health wise. We all can see how tired she looked in Noblesse Oblige. Hope she can still keep her back straight for her wedding day with Him Law.
