Former Cable TV presenter, Priscilla Wong (黃翠如), had a smooth sail to TVB when she decided to transition her career from hosting to acting. Priscilla landed her first major role in TVB’s Reality Check <心路GPS>, starring opposite Louise Lee (李司棋) and Ruco Chan (陳展鵬). She was cast in her first leading role in the yet-to-air Karma Rider <師父·明白了>, snatching second billing credits after Raymond Wong (黃浩然). Priscilla is currently shooting Lee Yim Fong’s (李艷芳) Qing Dynasty drama The Verbal Side of Court <舌劍上的公堂>, starring alongside Roger Kwok (郭晉安) and Kristal Tin (田蕊妮).

Rumor has it that top TVB executive Sandy Yu (余詠珊), who was allegedly responsible for Priscilla’s speedy rise in TVB, has requested producer Lee Yim Fong to increase Priscilla’s screen time in The Verbal Side of Court. The period legal drama, set in the late 1700s, stars Kristal Tin as an articulate daughter of a renowned lawyer who is extremely skilled in writing and solving cold cases. Priscilla will play a supporting character in the serial.

The rumor claimed that Priscilla’s screen time had increased so much that Kristal, the original star of the show, had to have her screen time reduced to accommodate Priscilla. Kristal’s husband, fellow actor Chapman To (杜汶澤), voiced out his support for his wife on his official Facebook account, writing, “My wife truly loves acting. Damn TVB only cares about making news!”

Priscilla’s rumored boyfriend Tony Hung (洪永城), also a former Cable TV presenter, quickly came to Priscilla’s aid. The former travelogue host returned to Hong Kong from Malaysia yesterday afternoon, after completing his shoot for TVB’s upcoming romantic television drama, Outbound Love <單戀雙城>.

“What a big misunderstanding,” Tony drawled as he nodded at his Outbound Love costar, Matt Yeung (揚明), who nodded in return. “It’s so hard to predict the news now. [Priscilla] is very hard working, and I’m sure everyone has noticed that her performance is Reality Check was not bad, right? She has a few dramas coming up, and we should give priority to her acting performance. Everything else should be just a rumor.”

Tony revealed that Priscilla had mentioned to him about how supportive Kristal has been through the process of shooting The Verbal Side of Court. “[Kristal] had taught her many things, so I’m sure all of this is just a misunderstanding. I haven’t heard stories of them arguing. I think they are pretty good friends.”

    1. Bubblez says:

I really liked her acting in reality check.
      It was really natural (:

    2. Daisy says:

Her character in “Reality Check” was nothing special.. He character was a pretty and kind girl that’s it. That role did not show her acting ability at all so of course it would look natural.
I’m not gonna say anything else about her acting till Karma Rider comes out since to me Reality Check is not a role to be labelled as “good” acting.

      • Bubblez says:

there was more than that but then yeah, I guess we should wait but at least her Cantonese is good (:

    3. irene says:

i think she’s being overpromoted. At least be a supporting actress first then if she does qualify then move up to leading. Feels unfair to a lot of other actresses who can act but can’t get a leading role because they dont have connections like she does (Sandy Yu). But then again it is TVB, where a lot of people are being leading when they shouldn’t.

    4. TVFAN says:

Honestly, there are not much (supporting or leading) actresses in TVB that can act in the first place, most actresses came from the Miss HK pageant without acting background. Some do improve over time, but sometimes I have the feeling that they don’t improve at all but still get promoted by TVB.

      • Bubblez says:

Yeah, that is quite apparent in TVB. I just hope that they will give more chances to Selena, Katy, Rachel Kan, Meini, Charmaine li, etc and the older generation actresses instead of the newcomers such as Eliza, Christine.

    5. AC says:

I didn’t even realized they were rumored together?

Priscilla has definitely had an easy time at TVB, but there are also other actresses who’ve had an easy time too such as Eliza Sam. I wouldn’t say that she’s a good actress quite yet, but at least her Cantonese is easy to understand.

      • todashota says:

Eliza did not have an easy time in TVB. She was given one series but the public really liked her so you should thank the public for her rising status.

    6. WildBerries says:

Well let’s see if she’s the lead over Kristal then we’ll know if this rumor is true or not.

    7. Bonnie says:

I can’t believe that my standards have fallen so low… but since she speaks Cantonese without an accent, I have no problems with her.

    8. irene says:

i guess now the only expectation to be an actress in TVB is the clarity of cantonese…that’s just sad

    9. Angela says:

Well of course, Tony Hung would be defended Priscilla Wong. They are on the same boat – first time acting, already getting leads/second leads. Thanks a lot TVB, such a smack in the face for other actors/actresses who are just trying to get that big break after working hard all these years.

    10. ANGELA says:

Priscilla is very boring and cant even act! I really hated her in reality check

    11. sushiroll says:

Who’s priscilla related to? Heard she has a relative who is a tvb executive, thats why she has risen to the top without any hard work. ?

      • Ashley says:

I think you should see her as a second Eliza. Before they were casted in their supporting roles, both were hosts.

    12. Funn Lim says:

I liked Priscilla in Reality Check although she has many many flaws but she is likable. She speaks well. And sorry to say I prefer her over Kristal Tin who can be flat sometimes in her delivery.

      • Ashley says:

        can you describe her flaws?

      • Nikki says:

I’m also curious in knowing what you see in Priscilla as ‘many many flaws’. I feel like you contradicted yourself.

        • Funn Lim says:

How did I contradict myself? She is not perfect hence the flaws but she is likeable. What flaws? Acting still amateurish especially the drama side, she has little confidence in her delivery, body language still not convincing, acting still looks like acting. but good news is all these in 1 series and towards the end she sounded more confident. So a few more acting jobs and perhaps her acting will improve. What I do know is she has 1 good point; viewers like her. Look at Charmaine; she is mediocre but with viewers loving her, she is now considered the top at her chosen career in terms of popularity.

Likable doesn’t mean she is a natural. Likable just means she is not annoying.

        • Nikki says:

So you like her just because she’s not annoying? That’s nice to know.

        • Funn Lim says:

That’s first step towards a fulfiling career as an entertainer. You mean you can like someone who is annoying?

        • Nikki says:

I think it depends on the situation.

        • Nikki says:

“If a person let one of the weaknesses to trump it all, then of course the series won’t be up that person’s standard. However, if you look from various perspectives and have an easygoing perspective to the drama, then the series may be more interesting or make it more appealing to the viewer itself.”

        • Anonymous says:

I have a question that I want to ask Funn.
please describe an actress who is perfect in acting.

And btw, this is pretty harsh:
“she has 1 good point: viewers like her.
In your review blog, you mentioned that she was a natural.. and in here.. you said likeable does not mean she’s a natural. Can you clarify? Thanks!

        • Nikki says:

Yes, thank you, Anonymous! That’s what I meant in contradicting yourself, Funn.

      • WildBerries says:

Perhaps Funn meant she thinks Priscilla is Charismatic. Someone can be extremely charismatic but lacks talents.

        • Coco says:

That’s acceptable except.. no one was born to be an actress or have the perfect acting skills.

    13. todashota says:

All newbies are given chances and if they succeed first time in a leading/supporting actress they are fine and will get more but if they ar not, TVB will abandon them. Rebecca Zhu got her chance last year with Silver Sterling Shackle but failed to gain popularity like Eliza. If Pricilla didn’t have someone to back her, she would have been a third actress because her reality check was not good.

    14. Yooky says:

Well Priscilla is not overrated in my opinion. She really works hard and is so down to earth. And she is a rather good host in my opinion!! and have filmed many travelogues. Watch her show if you have time!
