Tracy Chu Wins Netizens’ Hearts Again

After impressing the netizens with her favorable performances in last year’s Smooth Talker <以和為貴> and The Fixer <拆局專家>, Tracy Chu (朱千雪) is once again topping popularity polls with a fan-favorite role in this year’s K9 Cop <警犬巴打>. The cop comedy, which also stars Bosco Wong (黃宗澤), Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣), and Raymond Wong (黃浩然), premiered on Tuesday, February 9.

On the show, Tracy plays Raymond’s longtime girlfriend of four years who desperately wants him to quit his career of being a police officer so he can inherit his family’s restaurant business. She even threatens to break up with him, but Raymond, passionate about what he does, refuses to step down. In the end, Tracy’s older brother, portrayed by Bosco Wong, reminds her of Raymond’s good qualities, and the two make up their differences.

Numerous netizens came online to praise Tracy’s realistic “kong girl” portrayal, commenting that they ended up getting really invested in her character and her relationship with Raymond. A netizen opened a post to praise Tracy’s performance, calling her “girlfriendable.” A netizen shared that he went through a similar experience with his girlfriend. Another netizen said that though Tracy’s role is very money-minded, she is likable and realistic.

A female netizen said Tracy was spot-on in her “kong girl” approach, saying, “Whether it’s the inside or the outside, Tracy Chu did a really good job with this role. She perfectly acted out the contradictions that women would feel in a relationship.”

Of course I’m just saying this from TVB’s point of view, TVB been promoting Grace, bumps her to lead a view times and then gives her an award.

Of course Tracy is more deserving, clearly TVB is promoting Grace instead of Tracy, no idea why.

    1. @freedalas TVB wants to promote Grace that’s why. If you had watched Overachievers the year before. She hasn’t improved one little bit.If based on actual improvement lin Xiawei or Tracy Chu should have. Grace knows it as well. Just before the awards she got criticised by virtually every viewer of Captain of Destiny that she ruined the series.

      2. @freedalas: Yes, both Grace and Tony ruined COD. But I do think the bigger culprit is Grace. Tony was bad but at least he still seems likeable off-screen. Can’t say the same for Grace with her verbal diarrhea re her relationship with Kevin Cheng. So damn attention-seeking.
The saving grace (no pun intended, lol) was Ruco and his palace co-stars. The fact that COD still did pretty well in terms of ratings was due to Ruco. And COD bagged the Most Fave Actor awards for Ruco and Best Drama at Starhub and Astro awards.

      3. I meant COD still did pretty well in terms of viewership, not ratings. Considering the acting by Grace and Tony was crappy and storyline wasn’t great either.

  1. Enjoying her performance more than Sisley.

Take Young charioteers and Speed of Life, Sisley is essentially the same character just different occupation.

  2. Tracy is sweet and natural…prettier than grace and Sisley anytime. I still remember her role as social worker opposite Kenny Wong. Grace and Sisley should be put in cold storage…it’s a torture to watch them.

  3. Tracey or Rosina should have got most improved, but Grace got it due to a TVB wanting to promote her.

I actually like all 3 of these actresses and they should get lead roles soon as they have the most potential to lead.

TVB, just don’t promote Sisley Choi. I can’t stand her

    1. @mulder99 Grace has too much room of improvements before anyone should think about casting her as the main female lead. Tracy and Rosina has improved so they should have more opportunities….why do i smell the new doomed versions of Nancy and Natalie until all the leading fadans leave? hm….

      1. @riceball120 @freedalas
Theres lots of pressure on Grace now and this is all Tvbs fault. You can see it in her acting in Captain of Destiny that she was too eager to impress and everytime she said her lines, it seemed unnatural and fake. If she doesent show improvement, TVB will have no choice but to move onto someone else. Charmaine main years back started as a poor actress but she was given time and came out with a brilliant breakthrough role. Tracy I think has a lead role in an upcoming series. She is getting noticed and has much more charisma than the likes of Nancy Wu and Natalie Tong. The focus and attention hasn’t been on Tracy the last couple of years so she has been able to display her skills without pressure.

      2. @jimmyszeto That is true. Immediate attention/lead may not be the best for the actor/actress.

Also, not fair to the viewers too. The actor/actress should learn the tricks of their trades first.

Like Grace though. Like Tracy. Used to like Xiewei, not so now. Do not see why peoplee like Nancy, she just doesn’t have it. Like Natalie. As for Sisley, I echo, keep her away. Wonder if she is related to some management persons in TVB, the way she is being promoted even though she has no charisma (like Aimee used to be)

      3. @jimmyszeto i understand that she is under great pressure but from an article interviewing her about how she felt from all the criticism, i have a feeling it’s going to be a while before she “grows up in acting” for lack of better words. I understand she’s trying, but there is something called trying too hard. i dont dislike her, but i dont like her either. i’ll avoid her dramas for the time-being. But yes, blame TVB for not training their new batch of actors/actresses before throwing them into lead/major roles.

    2. @mulder99 totally agree with you. tvb is super blind to ignore the other young actresses. tracy’s performance in her previous roles are not bad…she doesn’t irritate viewers. but tvb had to groom grace and sisley. what is the matter with the management?

    3. @mulder99
We all know how tvb is so I think none of us should be shocked at all. They often give awards to the ones that least deserve it. That is Tvb for you.

  4. When did Tracy ever fall out of netizens hearts? I thought she was always liked a lot, even when she was in MHK.
On the topic of Grace, I still don’t get why people really despise her, she’s not even as bad as some people make her out to be. Yeah her acting isn’t top notch, but she’s not awful at it.

    1. @melodylai lol i wouldnt say i despise Grace (as i am one that does bash down on her acting). she’s pretty but sometimes, not all pretty people can act. i would have said she’s an ok newbie had she just not pretty much screamed in like every scene she was in for CoD. She has improvement that’s for sure. As for the Sisley woman, I havent even bother to check how bad she is due to all the even more negative reviews on her.

      1. @riceball120 I think COD was the second drama she filmed so it’s understandable that her acting isn’t great, even though I like her, I’m definitely not biased towards her, her acting in COD was for sure a over the top, but I guess it’s just a phase she’ll grow out of with experience and time.
I agree with you on Sisley! Let me save you time and tell you there has been zero improvement with her, still the same high pitched screaming and ‘childish’ acting. I still watch the dramas she’s in but certainly not for her, I watch it for the other co-stars.

      2. @melodylai we’ll see if Grace will grow out or not. I’ll be honest, nothing personal against her but she does rub onto me as very confident (and maybe a lil too overconfident) and a lil arrogant. i could be wrong but that’s how she rubs onto me. but i’ll put that aside and watch her when i hear that she has improved immensely lol

      3. @riceball120: Yes, agree re Grace being over-confident. That’s the impression I get too. She talks too much at interviews and hogs the limelight at every promo event. She doesn’t know when to stop talking. I don’t hate her but certainly not a fan.
@melodylai: COD was her 3rd drama. Her 1st was Overachievers and 2nd was Raising the Bar. TVB does give her many opportunities to hone her acting skills but unfortunately, she didn’t capitalize on them. Let’s see how she fares in the upcoming drama Blue Veins.

    2. @melodylai grace’s acting is somewhat like sisley…she doesn’t talk, she shouts. just don’t understand how her acting could earn a ‘most improved’ award in COD.

    3. @melodylai
It really depends because I have seen some actors and actresses act well even in their first few dramas. For some it is either you have that innate talent to act well or you don’t. But for many, they need years to perfect their acting just like with any skill. But of course if you are born with the talent, people will eventually see it sooner or later.

  5. At their age, Nancy and Natalie are about to be “expired” if they don’t get promoted heavily by TVB immediately. Good thing Nancy finally got the title now, but I’m worried for Natalie. I really really hope she gets recognized this year.
I think I’m one of the few that think a little bit differently about Grace and Sisley. By that I don’t mean I like either of their acting right now, but rather I think Grace is unsalvageable due to her arrogant mentality. Sisley on the other hand, although I know is very annoying in all the dramas so far, still has some hope. I think it’s not completely her fault that all her roles are so similar. They need to give her a different kind of role then we can judge her ability.

    1. @kaykay408 I think exactly the way you do! I find Grace a lot more unbearable because she comes across as arrogant and a little fake to me. Seems like she’s in love with being the center of attention and I was quite surprised/a bit annoyed that she told everyone she thought she would win Most Improved. Somehow, everything she does/says seems fake to me. As for her acting, I don’t think it’s that amazing at all. All her characters are also self-righteous and arrogant too, so that also doesn’t help that much in making me a fan.
Sisley, on the other hand, actually seems like she would be a genuinely nice person. I know her acting hasn’t been great, but I also agree that she was given two very similar roles. She was definitely unbearable in Young Charioteers, but if you dissect it, a lot of the things that her character said were stupid; so her character was already pretty stupid/childish to begin with, with or without Sisley’s childish acting. Like you said, with different roles, I think we’ll be able to judge Sisley’s acting ability more.

      1. @ayyh0 sisley looks nicer than grace. if she can work on her talking, i think she will win hearts.
grace is annoying and too arrogant especially with her uncle boyfriend Kevin Cheng. my hair literally stood on ends watching her in COD. she is not the least bit humble for a newbie.

      2. @janet72 & @ayyh0 & @kaykay408: Yes, agree with all 3 of you re Grace being arrogant as a newbie. She is over confident and always hogging the limelight at COD promo events, interviews and just can’t stop talking about her relationship with KC. The reporters may probe…but she can always choose not to answer by rejecting them politely. The worst thing is she offers more and more info without the reporters probing too much. I wonder how KC can take this esp when he seems to be quite a private person…

      3. @lml1977 grace is a pain to watch. she thinks she is so hot but actually she is far from it. celebrities want privacy but she doesn’t seem to clam up.
i really wonder what kevin cheng sees in her.

      4. @dramadrama if the man has played the field, reached late 40s and yet have a young chick as a girlfriend, i guess it must be the lust in him.
can he quickly marry that person, have a few kids and keep her at home so that she doesn’t see the reporters and yak.

      5. @dramadrama: I’m not sure if it’s lust. Grace is skinny like a stick and totally not well-endowed. Only her face is quite ok, not drop dead gorgeous but still not bad-looking. But it’s one man’s meat and another man’s poison.
@janet72: I think she’s arrogant partly because she’s heavily promoted by TVB and because she’s dating KC, who is considered a “suen poon” eligible bachelor. Yes, KC please marry her soon since you guys seem so in love. IMO, Ruco is the most eligible bachelor in TVB currently 🙂

      6. @lml1977 So many Ruco fans on this site lol

i bet there are many more eligible bachelors other than him. agree that she seems very arrogant due to the fact of her heavy promotion and her partner’s status in the HK industry.

im finding her more and more annoying because she’s flaunting her relationship like Michelle Ye with her new beau. And before anyone accuses me of being jealous, im not. i find it rude to be “all that” over your relationship…must not be that stable if they need to flaunt it so much lol

      7. @akinu: LOL. Yes, there are many Ruco fans on this site. We just love this guy too much.
Do you mean there are many more eligible bachelors than KC or Ruco? In HK, of coz many many more eligible bachelors than KC and Ruco too. IMO, just looking at the current batch of TVB siu-sangs, I find Ruco the most eligible. But like I said, its only my personal opinion.
Yes, she’s flaunting it a lot more than KC…this constant yapping is irritating a lot of netizens. Of coz, she knows it’s better to be known as KC’s gf than a crappy actress.

      8. @lml1977 I dont follow the HK industry much but there probably are. Not a Ruco fan nor a hater cuz i cant say because i didnt watch any of his dramas nor did i “watch him grow as an actor”. like i said, i dont follow this industry that much.

      9. @lml1977 Grace job is reporting to everyone what she and Kevin have been doing every time when they are not at work. Just how a guy can take it especially Kevin whom doesn’t seem to talk much about his love life can stand a woman with her ‘big mouth’ yapping all the time, for the rest of his life.

      10. @ayyh0 well said about Grace. All the while, I feel she is fake and arrogant too and after dating the old uncle, she is more to showing off of her relationship instead of focusing or talk about her works.

  6. It usually takes time for me to warm up to newbies (especially MHKs, since they usually have a track record for being thrown into dramas with no experience), but Tracy was one of those that I liked onscreen RIGHT when I saw her. I didn’t watch MHK 2012 so my first exposure to her was in On Call 2, and I was really impressed by her. Ever since then, I’ve been a fan and have been following all her dramas. It’s so great to see that she’s been continuously improving, and you can really tell that she’s been trying hard. Her portrayal as Jil in K9 Cop is really good! Like people said – “kong girl” without being detestable.

    Add oil, Tracy!

    1. @ayyh0
Well said and yes,it takes time to warm up to any newbies, especially the Ms. Hks that just get thrown into the spotlight with no acting experience. I think Tracy may have the innate talent to act well versus Grace and Sisley.

  7. To me Tracey is always likable, easy to watch and cute girl. Glad she got more recognition. Hope she won some award this year.

  8. If anything that I am most sick of, it is the “hu shao pa tao” girls, in particular, nancy wu. A mediocre personality.

  9. I like Tracy since she had minor roles. She is very pretty, and can act. Why tvb never promote her?

    1. @dramadrama because like almost everyone on this site has been saying…TVB’s executives and what not do not have a brain (if do, the size of pea) and do not groom and promote the more talented actresses/actors but instead promote the newbies that need 2-3 years of experience first but wishing Tracy the best of luck in her acting career.

      1. @akinu Yeah. I hated it when I see TVB is on suicide mode. Since they already monopolies the whole HK, can’t they improve and be fair. Rather than suicide mode of pushing irritating actor/actresses who can’t act……

      2. @dramadrama i barely watch any HK dramas because the language is a little too harsh for my ears (doesnt sound like Mandarin where it’s more like poetry) so i have a hard time committing but thinking about trying one but to not kill my impression, being really picky…got any suggestions?

  10. This is skewed reporting, I see many netizens in k9 cop forums bashing her, equating her to Sisley choi. Looks like tvb has a hand in what news gets broadcasted, Tracy, Sisley and grace are all in tvb’s good book, no need to fight.
