TVB’s “Trade Wars” Holds Completion Banquet

TVB drama Trade Wars <商戰>, starring Wayne Lai (黎耀祥), Raymond Wong (黃浩然), and Edwin Siu (蕭正楠), has finally finished filming after being five months in production. To celebrate, TVB executive Catherine Tsang (曾勵珍) held a completion banquet for the cast and crew at a hotel in Central yesterday.

Trade Wars is the debut drama of Grace Chan (陳凱琳) and Sisley Choi (蔡思貝), last year’s Miss Hong Kong winners. Grace portrays Wayne’s younger sister, who has a relationship with Raymond Wong’s character. Wayne said Grace has a lot of potential and is looking forward to her career advancement.

Wayne is currently filming Lord of Shanghai <梟雄>, Amy Wong’s (王心慰) highly anticipated period drama that also stars veteran actors Anthony Wong (黃秋生) and Kent Tong (湯鎮業). Before working with his two seniors, Wayne said he diligently studied their previous performances. Anthony compared his TV return to a professional high jumper tasked to jump rope, implying that TVB does not provide its artistes enough room for development. To that comment, Wayne laughed and said, “Anthony doesn’t need to jump high. He’s already good at everything. Anthony is experienced so dramas are nothing to him.”

Asked if he has received any praises from Anthony, Wayne said, “My role is crazy. He said my acting is like Francis Ng’s (吳鎮宇), and said I should pay Francis his copyright fees. Francis is good too. They’re all great!”

Edwin Siu Apologizes to Catherine Tsang

Edwin Siu was nearly an hour late to the completion banquet. The cast, including good friend Raymond Cho (曹永廉), decided to put Edwin on the spot and “punished” him in a few games. Edwin also gave a serious apology to Catherine Tsang by bowing 90 degrees and poured her tea. Catherine Tsang pretended to ignore Edwin, causing great laughter among the cast.

Joking that Edwin was late because he was too busy on a date with girlfriend Priscilla Wong (黃翠如), Edwin wiped his sweat and said, “That’s not it! I’m sweating because I’m afraid of Catherine Jeh!” He then quickly clarified, “I forgot about how hard it was to catch a taxi on Fridays. I noticed something was wrong, so I quickly changed route and went to catch a minibus and then MTR. I couldn’t find the entrance, so I had to run around a few blocks. That’s why I’m sweating!”

Asked if Edwin would be late on his dates with Priscilla as well, he said, “No. Our work hours are usually different, so we would meet whenever the time is right.” Will they watch the World Cup final match together? “We don’t know yet. I know she really likes Brazil, but they’re out. She was very sad about that. But she also likes Germany and Argentina.”
