Virginia Lok Approaches Kate Tsui for Shaw Brothers

Although Kate Tsui (徐子珊) chose not to renew her contract with TVB, the 35-year-old has not completely dropped all connections with her former agency. Reports say that TVB’s sister company, the film productions studios Shaw Brothers, has been in discussions with Kate to sign a new contract.

TVB executive Virginia Lok (樂易玲), who also works as an executive at Shaw Brothers, confirmed that the movie company intends to sign Kate under its wing. She said, “Her TVB contract is up and I have talked to her about what she wanted to do next. Right now she wants to focus on her classes and is studying for her finals. Once she’s done with that, we will officially enter discussions. I do hope Kate stays; she wants to film more movies, and we can definitely arrange that for her. If she’s interested in filming dramas again, we can do that too!”

Ms. Lok expressed that many TVB female artistes are high in demand in the movie industry. In addition to Shaw Brothers, many film companies, including Eric Tsang’s (曾志偉) agency, wants to sign Kate for at least $30 million HKD. Former TVB actress Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) has officially joined GME China, a subsidiary of China 3D Digital Entertainment. Current TVB actresses including Grace Chan (陳凱琳) and Sisley Choi (蔡思貝) are also receiving many casting offers from film studios.

“The industry is in need of new faces, so it’s not a surprise that they’re receiving so many opportunities,” said Ms. Lok. “If you have potential, you’ll eventually rise!”
