Wayne Lai and Kent Cheng’s “King Maker” to Air on August 17th

TVB political thriller, King Maker <造王者>, will be broadcast on Monday, August 17th in Hong Kong. Starring award-winning actors, Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) and Kent Cheng (鄭則仕), the 28-episode drama is produced by Leung Choi Yuen (梁材遠). Many netizens found cast similarities between King Maker and TVB’s other political drama, The Greatness of a Hero <盛世人傑>, which ended its successful broadcast earlier this year.

Wayne admitted, “About 90 percent of the cast and crew from King Maker are from The Greatness of a Hero.” He further revealed, “[TVB] is currently falling short of people.”

Natalie Tong Bites Pierre Ngo in Bed?

King Maker also stars Pierre Ngo (敖嘉年) and Lai Lok Yi (黎諾懿) as two rival princes who are competing for their father’s throne. Natalie Tong (唐詩詠), who portrays Wayne Lai’s younger sister, will eventually get married to Pierre. Natalie also disclosed that she will share many intimate scenes with her onscreen husband, including a “daring” bed scene that required her to strip off Pierre’s robes!

Natalie laughed, “It’s not to the point where we have to censor the scene with the bed curtains though!” She held out Pierre’s arm and added, “But I do bite him a lot!”

Lai Lok Yi Defends Queenie Chu

Lai Lok Yi’s Come Home Love <愛 · 回家> costar, Queenie Chu (朱慧敏), was rumored to have given Lok Yi acting lessons because she was unsatisfied with his poor performance.  Lok Yi clarified, “That never happened! I also have not shared many scenes with her yet.” Lok Yi also expressed his support for Queenie, who has recently been attracting a lot of negative press coverage.

Wayne Lai Says “TV Funny” Plagiarism Accusations are Exaggerated

TVB’s nighttime variety show, TV Funny <玩轉三周1/2> is currently under fire for copying the American sketch comedy series, MADtv, and the Japanese show Shimura Theater <志村劇場>. Wayne defended the TVB program, “There are many similar programs around the world. There is no reason to make such a big deal out of it! Assimilating ideas from other creations brings upon improvement!”

  1. Ka Nin and Natalie are a fresh paired, this series reminds me of the other one with Bernice in it. Hopefully it will be way better! Is Kent Cheng really popular in HK? Does he bring really high rating?

  2. Lai Lok Yi’s Come Home Love costar, Queenie Chu (朱慧敏), was rumored to have given Lok Yi acting lessons because she was unsatisfied with his poor performance.

as in chris’ performane in king maker or come home love? i think chris is actually doing very well in the sitcom while queenie’s super boring lol. too bad sitcoms never get that many viewers

  3. “Lok Yi also expressed his support for Queenie, who has recently been attracting a lot of negative press coverage.”

What kind of negative press coverage?

  4. Lai Lok Yi is the problem. I forsee his acting as bland.

    1. Wayne Lai and Kent tong :)going to make this drama good plus the story line .I wonder who the villain this time

      1. At this pont of rime, really not abvious who the villain is; Kent Cheng or Sek Sau? But definitely not Wayne, right? But Wayne is really good in this, just look at his facial expression and he was good reciting the puppet show. 🙂

  5. Omg, Lai Lok Yi looks like a twin to Wallace Huo during his younger days. Unfortunately his acting is not up to par compare to him. Well long time didn’t him act, he might have improved…I always felt that he and Ron Ng got the same bland (dead fish) eye expression…

  6. could be interesting but I’m more looking forward to 大太監.

    1. Well although both King Maker & The confidant are set in a historical costume drama background, we’ll see a different acting from Wayne. One as a hero in the Sung Dynasty while the other as an eunuch. I am realy looking forward to The Confidant. Meanwhile, I am enjoying King Maker. Great Cast and storyline too especially Wayne…awesome facial expression. 🙂

  7. August 17th is a Friday…do you mean August 13th on Monday? 😀

  8. Finally a series im looking forward to. Hope it won’t disappoint me 🙂

  9. I think TVB is running out of young-ish actors so they had to use him.

  10. LLY is monotone acting. He’s more interesting offscreen with his wealthy and hot gf

    1. Chris Lai’s acting does not seem to have improve…:-( But Pierre Ngo is much much better than him, honestly speaking.
