Wayne Lai Supports Myolie Wu Leaving TVB

When her TVB contract ends in July, Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) is ready for bigger opportunities. Reportedly signing a $25 million HKD contract with Stephen Shiu Jr’s (蕭定一) China 3D Digital Entertainment, Myolie’s hopes to focus on the Mainland Chinese market as well as the film industry. Her decision to leave TVB is supported by her No Reserve <巾幗梟雄之諜血長天> costar Wayne Lai (黎耀祥).

“It’s good for younger actors to leave for a while to try new experiences,” said Wayne. “They can always come back.”

Myolie’s departure may affect the broadcast date for their series No Reserve, which was filmed in 2013. Her exit may result in TVB’s decision to put No Reserve in the warehouse and release it overseas instead. Wayne said, “I’ve filmed it already, so I’m not going to care about that anymore. I’ll leave that for the company to decide.”

With many lead stars leaving the company, TVB is facing a talent drain. TVB’s General Manager Cheng Shin Keong (鄭善強) admitted that artistes are a valuable resource for the company, and he also believes that the audience would like to see more outstanding talents gracing television screens. However, television artistes leaving is a natural process. He said TVB is currently working on cultivating and producing more stars to meet the standards of viewers.

    1. @freedalas Though Myolie’s acting doesn’t leave much to be desired. To say that the current crop of noobs is better than Myolie is a bit of a stretch.

    2. @freedalas Any of the current crop of fadans can be better than Myolie? Are you referring to the batch of Sisley Choi, Grace Chan, Priscilla Wong, Eliza Sum and Tracy Chu? I think that even if Myolie is really average at acting, she cant lose to any of the above mentioned 6 name.

As for her batch of fadans, I still think she has the best acting out of all.

      2. @freedalas you said of new crop of fadans which should mean newer girls, not the ones in their 30s and spent 10++ Years in TVB.

The 6 girls I mentioned are listed as new crop of fadans by TVB themselves recently.

Amongst 4 names you listed, I like Kate and Selena but I really dont think any of those 4 has verstality. They all repeat their roles after roles without a breakthrough. Perhaps Kate has some changes in her movies but definitely not in her TVB roles. Linda is worse, Look at Tiger Cubs 2. I think TY can act but it is the story of 7 years ago, before she has her face such a mess and so does her acting. Selena doesnt seem to have a significant roles in recent years. Myolie might not the best but she cant be worse than her colleagues.

      3. @alluka That is very true. Though Myolie Wu’s acting is rather limited, I think she is still better than those newbies, such as Grace Chan, Sisley Choi, Priscilla Wong, Eliza Sum and Tracy Chu. These are only newbies, not good enough to be fadans yet.

Tavia Yeung may be the only one left, who has decent acting. Kate should be able to act if she does not care so much about her pretty image. Linda Chung needs to work harder on her acting skills. She did better in “Limelight Years”, at least something new.

I like Fala Chen who is very versatile and good in ancient and modern drama series, but she has left TVB 2 years ago. TVB is having less and less fadans now.

      4. @orchid123 This is why I like Kate in her movies more than TVB series. She seems to give up her look on movies more. Perhaps TVB producers do not require her to give up her good look.

For Linda, I watched her Limelight Years and the role is interesting. Linda tried hard to bring the character to life but she fails sometimes. Overall she did alright though I dont consider it is a breakthrough to her. Her role in Tiger Cubs 2 is more of a breakthrough but she missed it.

For Fala, she seriously needs to improve her crying. She left and is going to film a series for HKTVE. Hope Mui – Lau couple will bring her out like they did to Niki.

  2. I will miss Myolie. Out of the current fadans, she is a natural actress with the comedic flair. Given the right role, she can act pretty well.

      1. @freedalas I agree. Myolie Wu’s acting is very limited. She is only good in comedies with exaggeration. She needs to work on her acting if she wants to be a well-rounded artiste.

  3. Wayne said differently few months ago to say that Myolie shouldnt go since she cant learn anything in China. Now he changed his lines to support her to go. Wonder the reason.

    1. @alluka Wayne Lai may also think of leaving TVB very soon!! All the young actresses are too young to pair up with him, and it is hard for him to get a proper role in future.

      1. @orchid123 He did say several times that he wont leave because of blah blah family, languages, nothing to learn in China, etc.

But if he leaves, where do you think he will go? He cant go to China where he is too old to get a leading role. To HKTV which is never get a license? In TVB, Wayne is the king and promoted. He knows he has his best in TVB.

So my guess: he wont go.

  4. Meh after seeing the recent news about how TVB treat Bobby, I really think that Myolie has a correct decision to leave. It is definitely cruel of TVB to treat Bobby that way. Guessing that TVB wants to use the newbies for cheaper salary and obedience so they treat the veterans coldly.

    1. @alluka I read about that too. Bobby isn’t the first veteran to be treated that way (there were many who came before him who were treated even worse by the artists’ department) and he certainly won’t be the last. TVB should already be grateful that Bobby is still willing to return and film 1 series a year for them, but I guess they don’t care — to them, everyone is dispensable and only their favorites are worth ‘decent’ treatment.

It’s sad to see that TVB obviously has not learned their lesson — how many times have the artists’ department treated veteran artists like crap the past 5 to 6 years? Too many to count, that’s for sure! Yet, they continue to do it time and time again….when is it going to stop? Honestly, the veterans who leave should just stay away for good and not go back (wishful thinking, I know….).

      1. @llwy12 I dont think TVB should be grateful (as they are the company that brought Bobby up) but they should treat the artists with more suitable manner.

I find TVB changed so much after Sandy Yu joins. She kicked out everyone who isnt under her side without considering the benefits they bring to TVB. Her people are kinda useless but she keeps using them regardless the criticisms. At the same time, Catherine Tsang after kicking out Tommy Leung are producing low quality series.

Whoever wants 620 and Stephen to be fired should see how much Catherine Tsang and Sandy Yu are ruining in TVB.

      2. @alluka TVB already changed alot (and not for the better either) starting in the early 2000s era when Run Run Shaw stopped being too involved with operations and turned the reigns over to his wife Mona Fong. The management Mona brought on already sucked and after Sandy Yu joined, things got even worse — in its current state now, TVB is in the worst state it’s ever been (in my personal opinion).

Seeing what TVB has become now, I echo the sentiment of many veteran current and former TVB artists who keep reiterating how much they miss the ‘old’ TVB when it was run by Uncle Six (Run Run Shaw). I for one definitely miss the ‘old’ management team (the ones from the 80s to early/mid 90s) as well as the ‘Uncle Six style of management’ when artists were treated with way more respect….

      3. @llwy12 In the first years of 2000s, TVB has witnessed the leave of many actors but they are still ok because they immediately has successors. But now, the successors cant save them.
