Yoyo Mung Considers Signing with HKTV

Yoyo Mung (蒙嘉慧) is quite a catch for the Hong Kong television market. After marrying boyfriend of seven years, Ekin Cheng (鄭伊健), in a secretive wedding ceremony held in Tokyo on January 28, Yoyo returned to Hong Kong yesterday. The couple wore matching wedding bands and smiled happily when the press greeted them at the airport.

“We wanted to have a special wedding our way. We do intend to obtain our marriage registration later,” Ekin said.

Ready to start their new life as a busy married couple, Ekin will be doing promotions in Macau in the coming months, while Yoyo will be preoccupied with the filming of a new television drama.

Yoyo, whose filming contract with TVB will expire in March 2013, is currently in discussion with joining rival station, CTI’s HKTV station. It has been said that HKTV wants to hire Yoyo for at least $50,000 HKD per episode, five times greater than Yoyo’s current salary with TVB. HKTV intends to sign Yoyo for a two-year, three-serial contract.

TVB is not far behind, and has already reached out to Yoyo last month, negotiating for a contract renewal.

HKTV’s spokeperson, Jessie, confirmed that the station is indeed interested in signing with Yoyo, but expressed, “It is not convenient to comment at this stage. When the time is right, an announcement will be made.”

Yoyo’s manager, Miss Tang, also confirmed that Yoyo is currently in contractual talks with both stations. In a phone interview, Miss Tang stated, “As for whether or not she will renew her TVB contract, it really depends on what TVB is willing to offer. Yoyo does not care about the price anymore. She takes importance in high quality productions.”

Yoyo currently has two TVB dramas waiting for release – Ruse of Engagement <叛逃> and A Great Way to Care II <仁心解碼II>, which is slated to air on March 18, 2013.

  1. “We do intend to obtain our marriage registration later”

Ahhh so they’re not married yet, not legally!

    1. I guess not. In fact, a marriage certificate these days means nothing to a couple.

      1. But still, according to the law, they are not married. Well, I think it’s just a matter of time.

    2. will this mean ekin doesnt have to pay alimony to yoyo when they get a divorce?.

      1. This is a good question. Will have to check about the marriage laws in Hong Kong to see if they honour any weddings held in Tokyo.

      2. good, cause hes gonna be banging a hotter chick in no time

      3. LOLOLOL They just got married, not even legally official yet, and you’re already talking about divorce..? Wtf ?? xD

    3. I am sure they will register their marriage in Hk sooner or later so it is not a big deal…

  2. CTI so rich? can pay 5 times higher. What series that they have already produced so far? I tot TVB is the monopoly in hong kong. LOL

    1. Wow, 5 times more of Yoyo’s current salary …. of course Yoyo will think of signing up with CTI (or HKTV).

    2. Well, so fa I haven’t any of CTI’s series in market yet. But 5 times higher, who wouldn’t consider it .

  3. ekin isnt such guy that dont pay alimony,if you see how he cares about maggie siu after the break then you know he is a good guy.

  4. Please sign ekin cheng aswell hktv have felix wong among other in the list , let see what will happenin they get thelicense.

  5. I think Yoyo should leave… Obviously TVB isn’t treating her well when in Ruse of Engagement Aimee is leading over..

    1. That’s like a total slap in the face! I’m surprised she accepted the role knowing she would be playing second fiddle to Amiee!

    2. While it’d be best if she left, I just don’t want her to leave. :/

And yeah, Aimee leading over Yoyo is a slap in the face.

  6. She only made $1300 US per episode with TVB? Wow, that’s horrible…she might as well jump.

    1. That’s $26,000 for three months not including other appearance fees. Four times the average HK citizen is not that horrible.

      1. I think artists from TVB don’t really complain about the pay. They complain about the strenuous hours. No breaks coupled with terrible work environment…thats why they feel the pay isn’t enough since they’re doing so much more. If they have a steady schedule… a more human schedule…they probably wouldn’t even bring up “I don’t get paid enough.”

      2. Lol I think they wish it was like that. More like 18 hours a day…and a one to two hour break and then filming continues.

      3. Man, that is very cheap labor to be an actress or actor at this leading level.

  7. Congrats to her and Ekin! (:
And I think she should consider both sides. Of course it would be great if she stayed with TVB… However, TVB hasn’t been having any good dramas and is treating most of their artists like crap. The ones that do deserve to be in the spotlight are put aside. It all comes down to favouritism.

  8. Yoyo can afford to jump ship. 5 times is quite a lot and she doesn’t have to worry about being out of sight like other HKTV artistes who haven’t had a single series air in HK for years. She still has two series yet to air with TVB so she won’t be losing too much advertising and appearance fees.

  9. Is $26K for 3 months with 8 hrs/day 5 days a week ? If yes, that is really cheap to be actress at her level.

  10. The per esp fee is just a base. You have to take into account the appearance fees and advertising fees once the series is out. She will land a few shows and shop openings and products ads. THAT’S where the real $$$ is.
I sometimes wonder whether there is a conspiracy to negotiate a higher pay from TVB? All these artists knows when their contract is up for renewal and it wouldn’t be the first time so they should know roughly when TVB will start negotiation. So they ‘let out air’ (cantonese translate) to give the impression they MAY jump ship and therefore they have a bargaining chip up their sleeves. This HKTV still hasn’t got their broadcasting licence yet so it could end up the the whole thing goes bust and any series they made or in progress is sold to TVB.

    1. and you get a base salary from TVB regardless of whether you work or not so the per esp is ON TOP of the salary.

  11. who cares where she goes? shes a horrible actress. i usually dont watch certain shows because shes in it =T

    1. Yoyo is not a horrible actress, but she is not great in her acting. She is pretty though.

I don’t mind watching her drama series.

  12. Yoyo was a 1st lead actress in the past, but she had been downgraded to be the 2nd lead actress because TVB wanted to promote her newbies, such as Aimee Chan, etc.

Perhaps it is time for Yoyo Mung to work for someone else if she wants to get better roles to do. Unfortunately, there is some uncertainty in HKTV now.
