Chilam Cheung Films Survival Show “2 Days & 1 Night”

Due to scheduling conflicts, Chilam Cheung (張智霖) had to turn down a 10 million RMB offer to appear in the second season for the Chinese reality show Where Are We Going, Dad? <爸爸去哪兒> with his son. However, Chilam has managed to earn all that money back in the second season of the survival show 2 Days & 1 Night <兩天一夜>.

2 Days & 1 Night, produced by Dragon Television, is adapted from the Korean KBS reality show of the same name, which is one of South Korea’s most popular weekend shows with consistent high ratings. The cast members of 2 Days & 1 Night were tasked to travel to rural areas and cities with cultural heritage in China and experience wildlife with no access to modern technology. Chilam was hired for 10 million RMB to appear in five episodes.

Cast members of the second season also include Chinese actor Zhang Fengyi (張豐毅), Hong Kong actor Deric Wan (溫兆倫), and Korean singer Kangta (安七弦). For this season, the cast members traveled to the Yinchuan desert and visited the matriarchal Mosuo village in Yunnan.

Some fans who have followed the cast members in their travels shared some photos online. Chilam was seen traveling around the city with a bike and pedaling a wooden boat. With “survivor” as its theme, Chilam and the cast members are tested for his survival skills in the wild. Although filming was difficult, Chilam developed a close relationship with the cast and crew. He has learned a lot, and that all the hardships he had to endure while filming the show were worth the sacrifice.

  1. Just 2 days 1 Night?! Try “Naked and Afraid” for 21 days for real hardships and torture!

That must be a different adaptation. The original 1N2D is actually a travel show except on a budget. It is not a survival type of show. They have access to technology, just no access to their own wallet and money. They have limited if no money and must make their way to destination whilst playing games to earn lunch/dinner and comfortable sleeping arrangements. It is a brutal show and very revealing. I am doubtful HK or china actors can do that, doing something that may tarnish their image. Even Lee Seunggi, such a nice guy did have some hissy fit moments in that show, the PD was ruthless. The new PD is as ruthless.

And 2 days 1 night is hard if you have zero money but you must reach your destination which is far away whilst being very very hungry. Often times they don’t even eat until well past midnight and worst was an hour’s sleep before they drag you to some fishing expedition for hours. Even if only for 2 days even if for 1 night it is hard for any individual. But what you get is comraderie, brotherhood for the cast and fun for the viewers.

Anyone who likes this sort and haven’t seen the korean version, do watch Season 1 of that show. It is the best ever.

    1. In the K version, when Uhm Taewoon was introduced, he was ambushed at home, sleeping with only his underwear on. That sets the tone of the show; no rules and no escape. But they balance it well with some very sentimental moments or moments where put the cast in best light to explain their actions. I came off the show liking each and every member, especially some of them for their character. It could be acting but when you have camera in your face even during shower (yes shower!!), some truth is often revealed.

I never thought such a format can work in HK or China, maybe I am wrong. But I doubt Chilam will let you film him in an underwear, panicking or lying or showering in the toilet or cheating your way to food.

      1. I absolutely love the 2nd season of 2D1N!!I think the cast is great and they show such a wonderfully close relationship, they are more like brothers. And I love the fact they take you to all these amazing places in South Korea that you never even knew existed and how they interact with the locals and introduce you to their culture and local dishes….just simply wonderful..

  3. how deadly is it to survive 2 days and 1 night traveling only without access for modern technology? i rather watch ultimate survival of discovery channel, thats just i call a real survival show, where the traveller have to eat snake, rats, scorpions and climb mountains and cross deserts to survive, lol.

  4. He’s a cast member or a guest for that 1 trip? I heard other TVB artistes are in this one too. Like Bosco? But he’s only a guest I think. Saw pics of him filming it 2 weeks ago.
