Comedy king Dayo Wong (黃子華) is taking professionalism to a whole new level. The 52-year-old was seen filming for his TVB comeback My Prime Lady <My盛Lady> wearing a thick plush rabbit costume under sweltering heat. Dayo was in good spirits however, and completed his scenes without a grumble. He even bounced around and struck humorous poses while in costume, attracting attention of the locals who quickly gathered to snap photos.
Dayo and his co-stars Kate Tsui (徐子珊) and Bob Lam (林盛斌) were filming in San Po Kong on Sunday under 32-degree Celsius heat. While Kate and Bob wore light summer clothing, Dayo was immediately asked to try on his “Safety Rabbit” costume. The rabbit was made of a thick, plush material and came equipped with blue overalls and two large, yellow buttons printed with the characters for “safety”. Dayo looked hilarious as he wobbled around to test out his movements.
In between takes, Dayo took off the rabbit head to rest and was seen sweating profusely. The crew quickly cooled him down with handheld fans and paper towels. Despite the tough working conditions, Dayo maintained his professional demeanor throughout the shoot.
Reporters later caught up with Dayo and asked why he opted to film the scene himself instead of using a body double. Dayo replied, “I’m the body double! Today’s scene is about wealthy heir Bob wanting to do charity work. He doesn’t want to work so hard however, and asked me to substitute for him instead.” Dayo also took the opportunity to demand respect for fellow costume-wearers. “Actually I dressed up as Ronald McDonald many years ago [to make a living]. Don’t laugh. It is a legit job for performers.”
Kate Tsui, who accidentally slipped and injured her tailbone last week while on-set, immediately returned to work wearing 5-inch heels. Kate shared that she is still suffering minor pains but reassured fans that she is fine. She is unfazed by the accident and plans to continue doing her own stunts in the future.
