Kate Tsui Admits Defeat in TV Queen Battle with Charmaine Sheh
Charmaine Sheh’s (佘詩曼) performance in Line Walker <使徒行者> is the clear favorite among viewers this year, helping her win multiple Best Actress awards in Southeast Asia. Although Kate Tsui (徐子珊) rose as a dark horse in the upcoming TVB Anniversary Awards, Kate does not believe she will be able to win over Charmaine.
While Charmaine’s overall popularity is unmatched, Kate received a lot of praise over the Internet for her performance in Tomorrow is Another Day <再戰明天>. She is a favorite among male viewers and led over Charmaine in an Internet forum poll for Best Actress in a TVB series.
However, TVB is reportedly pushing for Charmaine to win the Best Actress award although she has not filmed for TVB in two years. Denying that she returned to TVB knowing she would win with Line Walker, Charmaine disclosed, “Filming occurred without an actual script and I didn’t know how the story was going to unfold. I didn’t know if the end result would be well received or not, so [the award] was not part of my plans.”
Charmaine humbly said she only has a 1 in 15 chance in winning because of the strong competitors who have been nominated this year.
Prefers Marriage Over Award
This is the fourth year that Kate has been nominated Best Actress, although her biggest chance was in 2012’s Highs and Lows <雷霆掃毒>. Losing out on the title every year, Kate said she is happy to be nominated. “I’m already very lucky. I don’t really have a goal, but my final objective is to get married!”
Admitting she is not up to Charmaine’s level, Kate admitted defeat and said she would vote for Charmaine if she had the chance anyway. “It is already [an honor] to be compared with Charmaine. We are at different levels and there is a big gap between us.”

Agreed. At least she is humble and down to earth. She has had some very good performance like in 2012 for which she had deserved to win but somehow TVB didnt give it to her. Dont think tvb has been very fair to Kate especially not putting her in favourite character this year. I guess the results are all planned.
Kate Tsui has the worst performance as a lead actress in TUA which look so obvious next to acting queen Nancy Wu, and she’s too pretentious for her role in TIAD where she’s only acceptable in her crying scene(too old for the role!)
It’s obvious that Charmaine is unbeatable this year. Not Linda! Not Kate!

Yess… When she was put next to Nancy Wu in TUA it’s obvious who had more potential… Yet I still felt like TVB tried to make Kate more of the lead actress in TUA….
It’s hard to compare the two since both their characters were different but both of their performances were good. It’ll most likely be Charmaine but honestly TIAD was a much better series than LW. LW was good in the beginning but it just became a mess near the end.
Really, I thought TIAD was boring. Good series if you want to sleep. LW was a mess at the end I agree, but still much better.
I like TIAD. Story was touching and acting were good.
I’m surprised that Kate was not nominated for “Favourite Female TV Character”… Granted that she probably wouldn’t win, but still shocked she was out if the nomination loop..

at least kate knows that her acting is nowhere close to charmaine. charmaine is absolute winner this year, no one else stand out.

Everyone to his/her own on which actress looks better. However when it comes to acting, Chamaine is definitely miles ahead of Kate. No doubt Charmaine is going to take home Best Actress this year.

Who are those male viewers who took part in the poll? Are they from another planet? Kate’s poor poor acting came out most vividly in TIAD and she is rated as equal to Charmaine? Even Stanley Ho’s daughter put in a much better performance than her. Charmaine wins hands down for her role in LW. For those who are unconvinced, tell me who else in TVB could have played that role better?

Male likes Kate Tsui because she is sexy in her dressings. Charmaine will never come in as sexy. That does not mean Kate’s acting is better.
Charmaine might never be as sexy as Kate but she definitely has more elegance and way more beautiful than Kate. JS.

Charmaine is LEVELS above Kate, in terms of acting. I would even go as far as saying that Charmaine is the best leading female actress at TVB right now. I would nominate Nancy Wu before Kate. LOL

It’s good that she has this self awareness. I personally don’t like Line Walker as I find the plots too confusing.

I’m a fan of Kate, and i also think she can’t be at Charmaine’s level now. I think Kate deserved to win in 2012, not now. To me, the best actress in 2014 is Carman Lee, neither Kate nor Charmaine.We can see how much lively she is. M- Club is really fresh, reality and so meaningful. Thus so disappointed at TVB.
I think Kate is not suitable for the sexy type although she could. She fits better to lively character. And she should put on some weight.She used to have those chubby looking but now she is so skinny?

Linda Chung never thinks highly of herself. In fact, she remained humble in previous TV queen races and always took her losses professionally. It’s not wrong to be self-confident in her acting but she never said she must get award or even is superior to anyone.
Charmaine should be the winner of best actress.
The only other competitor close to her is Carmen Lee in Never Dance Alone. The thing is Carmen is not even nominated in any category which is completely wrong.

Kate has been mentioning she wants marriage for a couple of years now. It seems like she really wants to get married and leave the industry asap as soon as she gets married. I don’t blame her. The entertainment industry is a tough work life to be in and I hope she finds her Mr.Right soon so she can retire and live a happy life with her husband and children. She seems like a honest and down to earth person and I think she deserves to marry a good man who would take good care of her.
I’m not a huge Charmaine fan but it’s obvious she is TVB’s biggest female lead actress and is probably the only one deserving of the award. I would actually feel outraged for her if she got beat by someone like Linda or Kate.

When I watched TIAD I actually cried with Kate in some emotional scene, but I don’t feel anything at all while watching Charmaine’s crying scene. So I will vote for Kate if I can
Charmaine will win the Hk BA as well. However to me, her victory would be sweeter if she had some real competition for the title. As it is , it looks like a hollow victory cos it’s practically handed to her on a platter.

Has Charmaine’s acting been improved that much in the past few years? I haven’t watched so I don’t know. The last series I watched of her was Forensic Heroes and she was as one dimensional as ever.
Charmaine was good in Forensic Heroes…I like her doing police roles. she did a good job in line walkers for some episodes but cannot act cute because she is not young.
