Linda Chung, Ruco Chan Promise to Wear Swimming Gear to Push Ratings

On September 11, the cast of All That is Bitter is Sweet <大藥坊> promoted the drama at a Chinese medicine store in Tsuen Wan. All That is Bitter is Sweet premiered on September 8 to only 18 ratings points because it coincided with the Mid-Autumn Festival. The cast was relieved when ratings steadily climbed and achieved a peak viewership rating of 28 points this week.

Star of the series, Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣), expressed that if the drama manages to achieve an average rating of over 30 points throughout its broadcast run, she will hold a poolside party and wear a retro one-piece swimsuit with a high cut. Costar Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) said he will also join the fun and wear small swim briefs at the party.

Natalie Tong (唐詩詠) said she would not wear a swimsuit, expressing that Linda should take that spotlight. Earlier, she was photographed meeting with a male friend. Rumored to be her boyfriend, Natalie quickly clarified, “He’s a friend I’ve known for over ten years. He’s not single anymore either. There will never be any [romantic] development between us.”

As September 9 was Mid-Autumn Festival, Linda was asked if she had celebrated the holiday with her boyfriend, Philip Ng (伍允龍). Linda declined to reveal any details.

Costar Raymond Wong (黃浩然), who is diagnosed with Behçet’s disease, was absent at the promotions and is currently recovering in a hospital. Linda said she hopes Raymond will recover soon and praised Raymond to be a good man and a great partner.

Due to his illness, Raymond had to drop out of TVB’s new drama Cheung Po Tsai <張保仔>. Raymond, who was set to portray the titular role, was replaced by Tony Hung (洪永城) last minute. Ruco, also starring in Cheung Po Tsai, said he is currently filming his scenes day and night before Tony Hung starts work.

Ruco said, “I’m standing in the sun 10 hours a day. I haven’t passed out yet, but my physical strength is really draining fast. On the second day of work, a few actors already fainted. I already lost four to five pounds. In November, we will be going to Shanghai for some location filming. It should be snowing by then. We’re really battling ice and fire for this drama. I don’t think I can take it anymore. I hope Tony Hung gets to work soon!”

  1. Still shocked Tony got the role.. They should’ve at least made Ruco switch roles with him or something!

  2. I wouldn’t want to see Natalie Tong in a swimsuit anyways. It’ll just be all bones.

  3. I hope i am wrong. Ruco doesnt seem to be as very popular as i thought.

    1. Ruco’s screentime is terribly little, just a few minutes in each episode. Don’t count on him for the ratings yet. The comments on this drama isn’t promising, many said it’s boring. See if it will be better next week.

      1. Ruco’s fans will want to see more of Ruco. Hence not much Ruco = boring for them. Personally, i thought ep 1 and 2 were rather slow-moving but it has picked up in the next 3. I’ll continue to watch as I like Ruco-Linda pairing. His screentime will increase.

  4. Just saw in the news that the premiere episode of “All That is Bitter is Sweet” coincided with the Mid-Autumn Festival, so the ratings opened at just 18 points.

However, ratings steadily climbed to 28 points after.

  5. Don’t think I’ve seen Natalie with that short hair onscreen yet, but I like it in the picture above. Makes her more mature. 🙂

  6. I watch this drama because of Ruco but his screentime is very little for the first four episodes. Still not much on the fifth one.

    1. Yeah, I watched this drama because of Ruco too. He’s a talented artiste and all the roles he played are deeply inked in our minds (like Keith Lau in The Other Truth, Sam Kiu in Brother’s Keeper, 6KT in Outbound Love, Alex Mo in No Good Either Way, Carson Chong in Ruse of Engagement). Linda’s acting on the other hand is quite forgetable. Her consolation is that she has a likeable personality and the HK audiences love her goody-two-shoes and girl-next-door image.
