Priscilla Wong and Edwin Siu Encounter Creepy Incident While Filming “Housewife Madam”

Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) and Priscilla Wong (黃翠如), the stars of the upcoming romantic comedy drama Housewife Madam <師奶MADAM>, have been happy with the filming progress for their new TVB drama. The onscreen partners-in-crime portray a pair of undercover detectives who infiltrate a housewife clique while pretending to be a married couple.

A light-hearted comedy, Housewife Madam pokes fun at many tropes of modern Hong Kong dramas, such as the phenomenon of wearing heels while chasing culprits. Priscilla also spilled that she would have many intimate and awkward scenes with Edwin, saying, “Because there is only one bed in the apartment so we would take turns sleeping on it.”

Receiving the full script of Housewife Madam a few days after official production began, Edwin praised that TVB has kept its word on requiring scripts to be at least 80 percent complete before filming. Edwin explained that actors now have sufficient time to prepare for their roles.

Though filming has been going smoothly, Priscilla revealed a mysterious event that occurred in the studios a few days ago, “There is a scene about a paranormal event in the story, but then something really weird happened. The server was down and the gates [to the studios] couldn’t open. It was creepy.” Edwin explained that the studios have recently been refurbished, so maybe the equipment was “too new.”

Produced by Lee Yim Fong (李艷芳), the 20-episode drama series also star Mandy Wong (黃智雯), Raymond Cho (曹永廉), Matt Yeung (楊明), Leung Ka Ki (梁嘉琪), and Rachel Kan (簡慕華).

  1. That pic is so unflattering. I didn’t even know it as Priscilla until I read the article.

  2. I wonder if Leung Ka Ki gets jealous that she keeps getting cast as supporting to her good friend Priscilla even though she entered tvb first…

    1. But it wasn’t like TVB never gave Leung Ka Ki a chance…she just didn’t cut it. Not saying Priscilla is excellent either but between the two, I go with the latter.

I actually think Priscilla is pretty good if she can get rid of that nasal congested nose of hers when she speaks her lines.

      1. and her annoying quivering crying chicken voice and if she will stop talking with her mouth full (Reality Check GPS).

      2. Isn’t her only a supporting in E.U? I rmb she has less screen than either Kathy Chow or Elanne Kong. And at that moment, she wasn’t Txb’s actress, merely a singer like Elanne Kong. She joined Txb after that.

      3. I wouldnt say that role waa supporting. Main lead was def elanne kong. Kaki appeared nearly 85-90% of sammuel’s scenes as she was his chick in the story. Also she too had her own character development in the 30 episode drama, it just didnt appeal to the audience.

      4. To my memory, Sammul Chan didn’t appear much. But it was nothing compare to Fish Wong :). Fish Wong didn’t appeal to the audience as well but since she is Sandy Yu’s baby, she is always chosen. Don’t think Kaki has that much of favour.

        P/S: I dislike Kaki in E.U, too.

      5. To be fair, there are many, many TVB actresses whose voice really detract from my enjoyment of their performances – chicken voice, flat, monotonous voice, shrill voice, low raspy voice etc. But funny enough I don’t have any problems with most TVB actors’ voice.

      6. clamine, you forgot Raymond Wong with his monotonous pitch and Jason Chan with his whiny voice.

      7. @buzz: For me, Raymond Wong’s voice is ok. Have yet to watch Jason Chan’s series.

Also, Moses’ voice in falsetto can be very annoying. Oscar Leung with his flat, montonous voice is distracting to me too.

      8. I’d say screen time wise Sammuel did get cut back a lot due to management problems, but he’s far from a supporting role in E.U. Therefore, Kaki wasn’t either. But I’m not saying that Kaki, got pushed to first line, like Priscilla did, immediately but she wasn’t exactly left in the fields and hopefully someone picks her up kinda role. She had an opportunity and to me, she just didn’t appeal, that’s all.

      9. Clamine,
Yes, there are plenty but Priscilla especially when she speaks even two word line or three word line, you hear it. Some people actually take a couple of lines, as in a couple of sentences, before you realize their voices are off. Priscilla is one of those, speak, and wth you got a cold, kinda thing….

      10. @Crystal: Kaki is somehow like Elaine Yiu to me. Because of a bad performance, Elaine was frozen despite her tremendous improvement after that. Now she is stuck with supporting roles. Kaki was terrible in E.U but she improved after that. For example she outshone other female cast in 3K. She has the potential to be good. However Txb never give second chance to right gems but second, third, fourth, fifth, etc. to stones.

To extend, I haven’t been impressed at her as an actress yet, but I like her personality. She is the type of gentle, caring girl. Its something different to other actresses. I like how she appreciates any praises, any comment on her weibo and everyone despite they are her fans or not. She was the second Txb actress I think to have genuine friendly personality (first one is Kate). She wins my respect for it.

      11. Personally I think an artiste’s voice, if it is good, will make a big difference in acting. It is right that not every artiste has a good voice. A monotonous voice will make people feel bored very easily, such as Raymond Wong’s. Raymond is a very good actor, but when he acted vs. Ruco Chan in “The Other Truth”, Ruco Chan outshone him due to his beautiful voice.

I like the voices of the following actors:
        1) Ruco Chan
        2) Wayne Lai
        3) Timothy Cheng Chi Sing (DJ in radio stations)
        4) Samuul Chan (DJ in radio stations)
        5) Pierre Ngo Ka Nin (DJ in radio stations)
        6) Raymond Cho (except he speaks with some lazy intonations)
        7) Kevin Cheng
        8) Raymond Lam

        Female:
        1) Sheren Tang
        2) Louise Lee Sze Kee
        3) Rachel Kan Mo Wah
        4) Skye Chan
        5) Dodo Cheng
        6) Charmaine Sheh
        7) Sonija Kwok
        8) Nancy Wu

I usually enjoy the acting more if the artiste has a good and pretty voice.

      12. I forgot that Joel Chan San-Chung also has a good and clear voice.

    2. I don’t think Leung Ka Ki would get jealous! There are other actresses who entered TVB in the early 2000s- mid 2000s but are only playing supporting characters or ____ leading role to this date.

    3. Kaki will need to learn to suck up to Sandy Yu if she wants to lead over Priscilla

      1. Leung Ka Ki graduated from Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in drama. She should be good in acting. Unfortunately she has a rather flat face and does not look very pretty for a fadan’s role.

      2. Actually I think Fish Wong aka Priscilla also has a flat face. In my opinion, Kaki’s face is more tolerable than Fish Wong.

  3. I thought Ka Ki did pretty good in Three Kingdoms as Raymond’s wife. Would love to see more of her and Rachel Kan!

    1. Rachel Kan is very good in acting and speaking dialogues very clearly. I wish she would get promoted more by TVB. She is also very pretty (at least to me).

      1. I love watching Rachel Kan and Queenie Chu (i feel sorry for her because if it wasn’t for her incident in being a third party.. her career could have been different)… And I always liked Kaki in the third instalment of The Academy!

      2. Rachel Kan joined TVB after her Miss Beauty Pageant Competition in 2000. Though she did not win, I think she is pretty, a lot prettier than Tavia Yeung, Linda Chung, Myolie Wu, and Kate Tsui. She cannot beat Fala Chen though. Unfortunately, she was never promoted by TVB when she was young. She is now 37, but is still quite pretty. I think she outshines many actresses in look and in acting.

Rachel Kan graduated from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in Physics in 1998. She started her acting career in 2001 and has acted over 70 drama series in various supporting or minor roles.

She is very good in acting, in particular her articulation in speaking dialogues. She has a beautiful and clear voice. I enjoyed watching her in many drama series, such as “Beauty at War”, “Master of Play”, “When Heaven Burns”, “The Dance of Passion”, “Off Pedder”, etc.

      3. holy, this is the first time i’ve heard of Rachel Kan being described as very pretty. I wouldn’t even consider her pretty, just pretty average. She has a rather fierce look and a button nose.

      4. I guess “Beauty is subject to the eyes of the beholders”. There is no point to argue with people as to who is pretty or not.

      5. Rachel Kan is not noticed by many people as she is not popular at all. However, if you really care about good acting, she is one of those good actresses. I started noticing her in “Off Pedder” portraying Doris, and paired up with Wayne Lai.

      6. @sandcherry: The looks piece is subjective, but I do agree with you that Rachel is a talented actress who deserves more than she has gotten. The other thing I like about her is that all these years, she hasn’t used her ‘connection’ as Jonathan Chik’s girlfriend to get ahead (even though it would have been easy for her to do so) but instead, chose to take the same path as most of the other supporting actresses. True, she does get cast in most of Jonathan’s series, but not in hugely prominent roles, plus she’s in other producers’ series as well. I would also prefer to watch her in a series rather than many of the current leading ladies….

      7. Wow, thank you both for the info on Rachel. Another reason to be her fan (along with her acting and beauty)!

      8. llwy12
is that all these years, she hasn’t used her ‘connection’ as Jonathan Chik’s girlfriend to get ahead (even though it would have been easy for her to do so) but instead, chose to take the same path as most of the other supporting actresses.
        —————————————————————–

Totally agree with you on the above. She could have done it easily by being the girlfriend of a golden producer (Jonathan Chik), but she chose to improve her acting through experience. What a good actress! In fact, I did not notice her until her “Doris” in “Off Pedder”, then more in other recent drama series. When she portrayed the maid of Yu Fei (Sheren Tang), I really appreciated her acting. Personally I think she delivered her lines more clearly than Ada Choi. She was next to Sheren Tang in delivering her lines in “Beauty at War”, especially those Classical Chinese dialogues. Ada Choi spoke with some lazy intonations in “Beauty at War”.

She looked very pretty with proper makeup and appropriate costumes, especially in ancient drama series. I did not realize that she is only 37 now. Kate Tsui, Myolie Wu and Tavia Yeung are 34, only 3 years younger than Rachel Kan. Unfortunately Rachel had always been cast in more mature characters, which gave people an impression that she is a lot older than her real age.

      9. Rachel Kan is Mu Fa jie, rite? If she is, I often rmb her as Mu Fa jie without knowing her Eng name is Rachel. She is often cast in old roles, but she looks rather pretty in modern clothes.

      10. Rachel Kan’s Chinese name is Kan Mo Wah 簡慕華. I only found out her name in the last two or three years. You are right. She was always cast in older characters. Sad! She, of course, looks prettier in characters of her real age.

      11. i guess Jonathan Chik knows that she doesnt make the cut for first or even second lead. He wont commit career suicide for her. Like it or not, looks matter very much in this career, acting ability is secondary. Rachel’s just not pretty to look at.

      12. I also like Rachel’s acting, she is quite a character.
Seriously, I dont like Tavia’s face, she got a bit square jaws and body that looks more macho. But well, my husband said she got exotic looks lol…

who said looks matters than skills? look at dayo wong, he is a very good actor, i dont find him handsome but i really love his movie.
look at fala, she is pretty but she still has to learn a lot.
btw,i dont know why people love ruco chan as I dont find him handsome, i love mature look like kevin cheng

      13. Omgomgomg back, way back when Tavia was playing like extras and super minor roles, my husband said how she got that fitting “ancient” roles look. Plus, he predicted that out of all the extras and minor actresses, she would make it big. He scored…

      14. ozoz, it’s looks first before talent esp for females, skills can be polished up later (see how the beauty pageant winners all have the edge over regular Janes?). Dayo doesn’t really fit the handsome guy image but he’s ok. You don’t find him handsome, some do. Same for Ruco, you don’t find him handsome, others do.

    2. I like Kaki in 3K, too. Actually she is my most favourite actress in 3K. She only looks not as ugly as they try to call her in that series, prettier than the cakey maid.

      1. According to history, her character is supposed to be ugly (as a matter of fact, her nickname is “Wong Ah Chau,” with ‘Chau’ meaning ‘Ugly’).

[Doesn’t mean I think Kaki is ugly.]

  4. Priscilla Wong is just super lucky, starting in TVB as a 1st line actress (fadan). She is nominated for “Most Improved Actress” this year. Usually a Most Improved Actress” winner is never acting a 1st lead role in any drama series before she gets this award.

    1. Fish Wong is Sandy Yu’s favourite and you know how Sandy Yu is ruling Txb. She is doing even worse than 620 in term of playing favourism card, for example her husband Herman Hu as CEO of Txb’s The Voice company

      1. Yeah, I heard about it. Tang Chi Wai, TVB’s music producer, had to resign due to Herman Hu’s joining.

      2. I wouldn’t mind it if Sandy Yu took favorism to the extreme…if she had an eye for talent.

    1. Yeah, usually any creepy ghost incident while filming are mostly publicity stunt to promote their movie.

  5. Such an unflattering photo of hers. Being Sandy Yu’s favorite helps a lot, previously a TV host and got to be the female lead in her first drama, though her dramas are all small production, imagine if Sandy Yu promotes her to be the lead in grand production. Her acting is not exactly bad, but she just doesnt stand out, probably due to her not-so-outstanding looks, she looks like any other girl you can find on the street

  6. I don’t like Priscilla Wong in both acting and appearance. I found annoyed when saw her on the screen; I don’t know why she is chosen to be a lead actress in a lot of series; she is not beautiful and acting is not better than Mandy Wong.

  7. I don’t particularly like Priscilla Wong, especially her voice. But she acts better than Eliza Sam, Rebecca Zhu, Tracy Chu, Christine Kuo, and all those newbies. At least she speaks good Cantonese.

  8. it’s awesome that the script is actually completely finished. i’m proud of you, tvb. 🙂 hope you continue to make improvements and provide higher quality dramas and better work environments.

  9. What did Priscilla do to get all these lead roles the moment she starts? Any rumors?

    1. even with connections, tvb should consider if it’s really talented and good looks if not talented at least. she got bad acting with bad dialogue, on top with not good looks and no sexy body, she is way too skinny. omg… speechless

      1. Agree. Priscilla is super skinny. Her face is okay, but not pretty. She does not know how to manipulate her voice well. Her acting is average. For an actress with her abilities, it will take her years to move up to be a 1st lead actress. Without any good connections (with Sandy Yu), I don’t think she will be able to lead a drama series within 3 years.

  10. Priscilla acting is bad and she is unattractive. Shows how office politics can elevate a mediocre actress to be a 1st line star!
