Raymond Lam is Blindly in Love with Michelle Ye

Filming for mainland Chinese drama, Legend of the Purple Hairpin<紫钗奇缘> is coming to an end. Directed by Tan Qiao (谭俏) and produced by Michelle Ye (葉璇), the drama is a loose adaptation of the classic Ming dynasty opera, The Purple Hairpin <紫釵記>.

Legend of the Purple Hairpin takes place in the Tang dynasty, a time when Chinese art, fashion, music, dance, and novel inventions were at their highest peak. Although the drama will touch upon these cultural achievements, it will be the engrossing love story between the four main characters that will grasp the most attention from fans and audiences.

Raymond Lam (林峯) portrays the heroic Nalan Dong, known as the “Yellow-Clothed One”, who falls in love with beautiful dancer Huo Xiaoyu, played by Michelle Ye. However, Dong’s best friend Li Yi, played by Cheng Cheng (程诚), is also deeply in love with Xiaoyu. Choosing brotherhood over love, Dong decides to step down in his pursuit of love.

Raymond Lam is currently actively filming Legend of the Purple Hairpin in Hengdian. When discussing about his heroic and passionate character, Raymond described his role in two words – easily infatuated.

“He is a hero. He is all about chivalry and fighting for justice, yet he is unable to unbind himself from the constraints of love. But love is something that cannot be explained. The Yellow-Clothed One is very loyal and dependable to his love. He is willing to sacrifice everything for Xiaoyu, and expects her to give him nothing in return. This is the beautiful side of the character. I have to admit, I am very touched by him.”

Tragic the Yellow-Clothed One may seem, but Xiaoyu is not the only character who is drowned by the love of other characters. Raymond revealed, “The Yellow-Clothed One has his fair share of being popular with the other sex like Xiaoyu,” he joked. “Michelle Chen’s (陳妍希) character, Lu Jinglan, is blindly in love with the Yellow-Clothed One. Sometimes, a person’s infatuation can really affect others!

“But the Yellow-Clothed One is a very kind person. He is in love with only Xiaoyu, but he does not want to hurt Jinglan. He really does not know what to do!”

Raymond Lam is a Love Fighter

Raymond admires the sacrifices that the Yellow-Clothed One has made for love, but what about Raymond himself? Is he willing to give up his true love for the happiness of others?

“Absolutely not. I believe that you should not cower in the face of true love. You have to fight for it if you have to. If my best friend and I fall in love with the same woman, I will treat it as a fair competition. I will only do what I have to do. In the end, it is the woman who makes the final decision.”

The blind love that the Yellow-Clothed One has for Xiaoyu is romantic, but for Raymond, such blindness in love is impractical. “In real life, we will eventually meet someone who we admire deeply in our hearts, but does that mean that the person will be compatible with you? When it comes to finding a lifelong partner, it is important that this person is willing to be with you forever, live with you, share with you, and protect you. We must all choose wisely.”

  1. OMG finally videos of this series is out! So excited to see this – I’ve been waiting for RayMic to collaborate again since Lofty Waters, Verdant Bow wayyyyyy back in 2003. That ending was so brutal.Michelle definitely knows what her fans want haha.

    1. But this series might have a sad ending too. 🙁

LF’s voice sounds so sexy in mandarin even though I can’t understand it all.

      1. I agree! I got so excited about his Mandarin album when it came out in 2011. I love Michelle’s Mandarin, too.

Yeah…tell me about it. I saw the video and it likely will be tragic. At least I’ll be prepared this time – I was completely unprepared for LWVB and I cried my eyes out at the end. T___T

  2. OMGMGMGMGM!!!! I WANT TO WATCH THIS NOW!!!!! I miss Michelle and Raymond couple!

    1. You are going to have to wait until Oct.2013 since I heard that is when it will be aired.

  3. I can’t wait to see this drama! I miss seeing them as a couple 😀

  4. Looks good. Can’t wait. Michelle looks like she hasn’t age at all.

  5. Between Ray and Michelle, I am more skeptical about Michelle’s would be performance. Both of them were terribly dramatic and operatic in their acting when they first started, then both toned down a bit and now Ray back to being a bit dramatic and Michelle is errr.. OTT again. I suppose they mirror one another.

    1. I blv Michelle’s acting is in a bearable OTT. At least I find she is less OTT than many Txb artists – even some veterans. Comparing to herself when she first starts, I think she is simply suitable for a stronger role than a crying baby. However, it’s ok since she dun look emotionless in loving scenes.

For LF’s acting, you really think he was dramatic in his first ASITP? Hmm, it’s quite new to me.

  6. They might as well film this in Cantonese since most of the main and supporting casts can speak Cantonese.

The trailer looks good but the story fails to interest me. And are they going to be dubbed cos the voice quality is not that clear (?noisy background when filming)?

    1. This is a mainland series so of course they have to speak Mandarin. Most of the cast is from China and Tammy is from Taiwan so they can’t speak Cantonese. You don’t know how the story is yet and don’t think you can tell by just the trailer. I heard that Michelle’s productions were not dubbed so this one may not be dubbed, but lets see…

      1. They better dub the one with the thick taiwanese accent. It’s so jarring and out of place, and stands out too much in a bad way. Michelle has a nice accent.

      2. Yes, Michelle was born in China should Mandarin should be her native language…

  7. omg………..CAN’T WAIT……..OMG……………….I LIKE RAYMOND’ EYES EXPRESSION…..VERY IMPRESSIVE……OMG….I WANT TO WATCH NOW…..I BELEIVE THIS FILM WILL BRING RAYMOND’POPULARITY IN MAINLAND AND CHINA TO THE TOP PEAK IN 2013, OTHERS, HE ALSO HAS 2 MOVIE 3D WILL AIRED IN 2013 : SAVING GENERAL YAND AND BABY BLUE…….. 2013 WILL BE THE YEAR OF THE TOP CAREER OF RAYMOND LAM FOR SURE…AND ALSO CONCERT IN THIS MONTH!!!!! 1. I know that you are Raymond’s fan . But do you need to put in the whole list of Raymond’s award ?

    2. WOW, sorry but I feel that you are spamming this thread/article. We don’t need to know all of the awards that he has won here and it is not necessary to post it here. I bet you will be sad when Ray does leave the e circle one day…

      1. he is breaking andy lau’s record for most awards

      2. But he will never be near to Andy Lau’s popularity by any means.

      3. LF should treat andy as his target to achieve icon status

    3. it is ohay…i am with you…love to see Raymond’s fans…

    4. HELP!! I am drowning from the statistics!! Can’t breath!!

  9. Ok, I guess they are not done filming this series yet. I thought they already finished but I guess not. I saw that trailer already and it looked really sad. It is great that they aren’t dubbed in the trailer and hope that the series will not be dubbed too.

Heard that this will not release until Oct of 2013 so it will be a long wait…

    1. Not necessarily. I have seen some trailers undubbed and then final outcome, dubbed. Michelle Ye shouldn’t be dubbed but not sure about Raymond… oh sorry, should be

      RAYMOND!!

      1. From what I heard, Michelle’s other 2 productions were NOT dubbed so this one may not be dubbed. Also, at times the actual actors and actresses dubb with their own voices so at times you do get to hear their real voices.

I just heard that they were done filming on Dec.24 already but then this article said that they are still filming. Therefore, I am abit confused…

    2. I’m sure they are done with filming since the late December.

  10. This looks really good and I especially love the vibrant colours of the beautiful costumes. It gives off a really fresh feeling.

  11. NO. RAY WILL BE MORE SUCCESSFUL THAN ANDY LAY BECAUSE HE ALREADY SUCCESS IN TV AND MUSIC,,, NOW THE ONLY ONE IS MOVIE…I THINK HE WILL EVEN MORE SUCCESSFUL THAN ANDY LAY IN THE FUTURE, THIS WILL HAPPEN VERY SOON,,,RAY IS REALLY SO MULTI-TALENTED!!!!

    1. Of course he will be more successful than Andy Lay but I doubt he can reach the success of Andy Lau as an actor, singer and producer. please, ease on the caps will ya?

      1. I agree with Funn, well said. He may be more successful than Andy but not sure if he can reach the level of success that Andy has reached…

      2. raymond wong is right. when LF left tvb, he should set up his own management company like andy lau and jay chau. his music contract should stay with eeg music

    2. Another area In which ray will “surpass” andy would be the obsessive behaviour of his fans.. Andy ended up with the fans hiding under his bed, and the fan with the father who killed himself, etc. I can see that you will top them all.

      1. I wonder if Ray will have any crazy fans save their virginity for him like that one crazy Andy fan?? If not, then Andy still tops Ray or anyone in the obsessive behavior of fans.

  12. RAYMOND WONG (PRODUCER OF SAVING GENERAL YANG ) SAID THAT RAYMOND WILL BE ‘ANDY LAU’ 2 IN CHINA…OTHERS MANY FAMOUS ARTISTTS ALSO SAY THE SAME THING!!!

  13. looks like they both can’t act, Michelle looks fake with ingenuine expressions. And Raymond looked like he didn’t think he even needs to act, just stand there, have the camera roll and call it acting.

    1. Maybe you should be in front of the camera and see if you can be as popular as them…. LOL

      1. One is talking about how well can they act, the other one is talking about popularity. They don’tt go hand in hand, don’t you know that?
Look at boybands and twins etc.

      2. @Nicole: But in many cases, acting and popularity go hand in hand.

      3. I agree with Fox that in many cases acting and popularity does go hand in hand. But it is also true that in other cases, acting/talent and popularity don’t go hand in hand..

      4. I do think that to be popular, the artists must have some talents, maybe some can see these talents while some can’t.

      5. Some don’t have talent and still hugely successful, like Twins.

      6. Many think Twins are entertaining and love their songs as well as their singing. What do you say to them? That your opinion is that they are not and these ppl have to follow you?

      7. “What do you say to them? That your opinion is that they are not and these ppl have to follow you?”

        Funn never said that.

“Many think Twins are entertaining and love their songs as well as their singing”

You yourself don’t dare to say ‘Many think Twins are talented’. No mention of the word ‘talent’ in your sentence even though talent is what in discussion. Shows that you yourselves have doubts whether people who like them really think that are talented.

      8. Once again, talent is in the eye of the beholder… Also, I think we all know that it takes much more than just talent to be popular and successful…

      9. @Kidd: There are ppl who think Twins have talents, ok? Some among my friends think so and they enjoyed their concert. I don’t think Twins have good live singing, but it doesn’t mean I doubt there are ppl who think they have talents.

Funn Lim hinted that by her posts, if you ask me.

      10. What did I hint? I did say outright Twins have no talent.

But I did not say you must follow what I say. You Fox of all people is the last person I can ever get you to follow anything anyone says unless you want to. Please do not put words into my mouth, hinted, said outright or anything else.

  14. is it just me or does this seem straight out of the storyline of a midsummer night’s dream? two guys love same girl, another girl loves one of guys but he doesn’t know…it looks like raymond is playing the role of demetrius here.

    1. oh wait, i mean he doesn’t love her back, not he doesn’t know.

  15. Raymond actually has a very mature view on love. Finding myself to agree with him.

    1. He does but sadly his actions did not seem to prove them. Actions are stronger than words..

      1. Sadly, that happens often in life where your actions dont support what you believe in.

But I think celebrities are hard to judge when it comes to their actions since the media is never reliable. Even when theyre reporting “happy stuff” there are too many times its either over exaggerated to please the readers or straight up false.

      2. I think his actions are perfectly fit his view on love: Love = love but if the feeling goes, then goes with no dust left.

  16. The trailer looks really good! I hope there is a cantonese version or hoepfully someone generous could sub it for us 🙂

    1. There will definately be a Cantonese version so you don’t need to worry. I hope that it their real voices(for Ray and Michelle anyways) when they do dubb in Cantonese.
